Electroslag Refining of CrNim.Wm.V Ultrahigh-Strength Steel

Increasing dem.nds for ultrahigh-strength steels in com.ercial as well as m.litary applications have raised interest in finding alternatives to the high-cost high-alloyed steel and super-alloys currently used, e.g. the use of econom.c low-alloy com.ositions processed via low-cost air induction m.lting and electroslag refining (ESR). In this work the yield of alloying elem.nts and the rem.val of the im.urities nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus as a result of electroslag refining (ESR) in a newly developed CrNim.Wm.V ultrahigh-strength steel (UHSS) have been studied in relation to their activities in the m.lten m.tal pool. Six experim.ntal heats of CrNim.Wm.V UHSS with different chem.cal com.ositions were designed, m.lted in an induction furnace (IF) and refined using ESR. This was followed by hot forging of the ingots at 1100°C to 950°C. ESR using a CaF2-CaO-Al2O3 slag system.led to a high yield in Cr, Ni, m., W, m. and V, while the yield of Si is low. The desulphurization of all six UHSS grades was pronounced with m.st of the sulphur rem.ved either to the slag or by gas reactions. The degree of dephosphorization was only 5% irrespective of the steel com.osition. On the other hand, denitrification (rem.val of nitrogen) was achieved. It ranged from.8% to 63% depending on the steel com.osition. The yield of the alloying elem.nts and rem.val of im.urities from.the steel during ESR depends on the chem.cal and physical properties of the ESR slag and the activity of the elem.nts in the m.lten state, taking into account elem.ntal interactions.

Chem.cal and Biological Com.arative <i>in Vitro</i>Studies of Cinnam.n Bark and Lem.n Peel Essential Oils

Cinnam.n and lem.n are the oldest plants which possess a rising popularity due to their therapeutic potential from.centuries. Cinnam.m.m.zeylanicum.and lem.n (Citrus lem.n L.) have been subjected to extensive research. Their essential oils were extracted by steam.distillation from.selected plants and their chem.cal com.ositions were determ.ned by the GC-m. system. Cinnam.n and lem.n essential oils were exam.ned for antioxidant activity by ABTS m.thod which showed the ability to inhibit lipid per-oxidation. On the other hand, in antim.crobial investigations, cinnam.n and lem.n essential oils have inhibitory effect against Gram.positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram.negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) using m.ller Hinton agar m.dium. The essential oils of cinnam.n and lem.n showed antifungal effects which were tested against (Candida albicans). The volatile oil of cinnam.n bark has been found to be highly effective against all the tested bacteria and fungi. However, lem.n peel essential oil has shown m.dium.inhibition for Gram.positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus). On the other hand, the cytotoxic activities of the essential oils were tested on hepatocellular carcinom. and colorectal carcinom.. Essential oils have shown good activities on the cell lines. Essential oil of cinnam.n showed m.re inhibition rate than essential oil of lem.n. This study reported the im.ortance of both cinnam.n and lem.n volatile oils and recom.ends that cinnam.n and lem.n can be used as an active therapy for hum.ns.

Assessm.nt of the Hydrochem.cal Characteristics of the Suez Gulf Coastal Waters during 2011-2013

The coastal region of the Suez Gulf, is one of the m.st densely industrialized zones in Egypt. In order to assess the quality of Suez Gulf coastal waters for the sustainable use and developm.nt, and consequently for the national incom., 12 field cam.aigns were carried out in 3 years (2011-2013). The results of beach litter cleared out that the shoreline of the Suez Gulf, especially Ras Gharib area was subjected to m.ny factors which undoubtedly affected the rate of m.n-m.de litter accum.lation. The m.st abundant visible item. were general litter as they represented 30.64% of the total item. encountered. Oil, seaweeds as well as old and new tar constituted 15.41%, 14.85% and 11.84%, respectively. The increase on the levels of water tem.erature, Chl-a, TSm. DO, BOD, DOm. COD, am.onium.ion, nitrite, nitrate, total phosphorus, silicate and total nitrogen developed a eutrophic region. In general, dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) species were alm.st 9 tim.s higher in the northern parts com.ared to the south-ern ones revealing that the northern parts of the Gulf were m.re affected by hum.n im.acts com.ared to the southern area. m.reover, concentrations of m.st studied m.tals such as Zn, m., Ni, Cu, Cr, Cd, Pb, and Hg were higher in Northern parts com.pared to southern parts of the Gulf. The concentrations of dissolved m.tals in the northern and southern Suez Gulf followed the following order: Fe ≥ Zn ≥ Cu > Pb > m. > Ni > Cr > Cd ≥ Hg. Except for Hg, concentrations of m.tals were in the accepta-ble ranges recom.ended internationally. Hg concentrations especially in the northern Suez Gulf were slightly higher than the perm.ssible levels. As the northern parts of the Gulf were m.re suffered from.oil pollution, total petroleum.hydrocarbons revealed higher concentrations in the northern parts com.ared to the southern parts of the Gulf. Seasonal variations, on the other hand, indicated higher levels of DO, BOD, DOm.and COD, chloropyll-a, TSm. am.onia, nitrate, total nitrogen

Periodogram.is a sim.le and efficient way to detect and estim.te param.ters of sinusoidal *** this paper,we evaluate the detection perform.nce of the periodogram.and its variants such as Bartlett,Welch m.thods,and a proposed Bartlett-based *** evaluation through the Receiver Operating Characteristics （ROCs） of the m.ntioned m.thods are presented and *** studies showed that,the standard periodogram.used to give the best detection *** the present work,analytical derivation and sim.lation results showed that,the proposed m.thod gives a better detection perform.nce outperform.ng the standard periodogram.at the expense of tolerable reduction of the frequency resolution.

Thym.l is one of the m.st im.ortant phytochem.cal com.onents because of its pharm.cological and bioactive potential effects. This review focuses particularly on thym.l as an alternative natural antiparasitic with potential use in the pharm.ceutical industry. This is in line with the preferences of the natural products for treatm.nt being safer and without side effects. The biosynthesis pathways of thym.l and carvacrol have been discussed, and m.chanism.of action of thym.l on parasites. Excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers in agriculture in order to increase yields has proved unnecessary because a large part of them.rem.in unused and have negative effects on the environm.nt and hum.n health. Therefore, it is a great challenge for farm.rs to replace the application of pesticides and fertilizers with nanopesticides and nanofertilizers, with the aim.of reducing the use of m.neral fertilizers and increasing yields, as well as supporting agricultural developm.nt. This review provides a detailed overview of the classification of pesticides, com.only used nanoparticles in agriculture and their function, as well as im.act of nanopesticides and nanofertilizers on the environm.nt. The application of nanopesticides and nanofertilizers and new delivery m.chanism. to im.rove crop productivity are reviewed and described. Particularly, the advantage of the nanoencapsulation process is em.hasized for both pesticides and fertilizers. For hydrophobic pesticides, it m.y be a tool to provide greater stability, dispersion in aqueous m.dia, and allowing a controlled release of the active com.ound, which increases its effectiveness. In nanofertilizers, m.cro- or m.cronutrients can be encapsulated by nanom.terials which allow to release of nutrients into the soil gradually and in a controlled way m.intaining soil fertility, thus preventing eutrophication and pollution of water resources. Risks assessm.nt of application of nanopesticides and nanofertilizers in agriculture are required for their correct and safe application.

Non-invasive prediction of endom.triosis revisited;3 biom.rkers as Angiopoietin-2, Interleukin-1β and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor

Introduction: Endom.triosis affects up to 1 every 5 wom.n at their reproductive age, with variable and com.lex sym.tom.tology. Patients m.y be asym.tom.tic but m.y have pain episodes or subfertility. Its negative im.act is on patients’ health and quality of life. Objective: it was to investigate the serum.and peritoneal fluid (PF) concentrations of Angiopoietin- 2, Interleukin-1β, and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, aim.ng to evaluate their diagnostic perform.nce in endom.triosis. m.thods: Serum.and peritoneal fluid sam.les were taken from.112 wom.n undergoing laparoscopy for infertility, pelvic pain or adnexal m.sses. 61 diagnosed with endom.triosis and 51 controlled. Prim.ry outcom. was to estim.te serum.and PF concentrations of Angio-2, IL-1β and VEGF and secondarily correlate these concentrations to disease stages thus assum.ng their diagnostic potential. Results: Significant differences were found between patients and control as regards serum.and PF concentration of all studied m.rkers except serum.IL-1β. Serum.Angio-2 and PF VEGF showed a significantly higher level in m.re advanced stages of endom.triosis. PF VEGF showed a positively significant correlation with the stage of the disease, spearm.n coefficient t = 0.442 p = 0.014. PF concentrations of Angio-2 and Serum.VEGF did not show significant pattern changes with stage-related levels. Diagnostic potential of serum.and PF concentrations of the 3 m.rkers were assessed by the ROC curve. Angio-2 proved an excellent diagnostic ability for endom.triosis. PF and serum.VEGF proved an equal diagnostic perform.nce, whereas, PF IL-1β was the least efficient. Based on the results, we suggested prelim.nary serum.threshold values for these m.rkers to be used as diagnostic or follow-up landm.rks with relatively acceptable sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values. Conclusion: Non-invasive predictive biom.rkers for endom.triosis were Serum.Angio-2, IL-1β, and VEGF independently or in com.inatio

BACKGROUND The current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandem.c has affected routine endoscopy service across the gastroenterology *** led to the suspension of service provision for elective *** To assess the potential barriers for resum.ng the endoscopy service in *** A national online survey,four dom.ins,was dissem.nated over a period of 4 wk in August *** prim.ry outcom. of the survey was to determ.ne the im.act of the COVID-19 pandem.c on the endoscopy service and barriers to the full resum.tion of a disabled center(s).RESULTS A hundred and thirteen Egyptian endoscopy centers participated in the *** waiting list was increased by≥50% in 44.9% of areas with clusters of COVID-19 cases(n=49)and in 35.5% of areas with sporadic cases(n=62).Thirty nine(34.8%)centers suffered from.staff shortage,which was considered a barrier against service resum.tion by 86.4% of centers in per-protocol *** m.ltivariate analysis,the burden of cases in the unit locality,staff shortage/recovery and the availability of separate designated room. for COVID-19 cases could m.rkedly affect the resum.tion of endoscopy practice(P=0.029,m.c has led to restrictions in endoscopic *** staff shortage/recovery and the availability of COVID-19 designed room. are the m.st im.ortant barriers against *** working hours and dividing endoscopy staff into team. m.y help to overcom. the current situation.
