AIM: To evaluate the long-term efficacy adefovir(ADV)-based combination therapies in entecavir(ETV)-resistant chronic hepatitis B(CHB) patients. METhoDS: F i fty CHB pat ient s wi t h genotypic resistance to ETV at 13 medical centers in South Korea were included for the analysis. All the patients received rescue therapy with the combination of ADV plus ETV(ADV/ETV,n = 23) or ADV plus lamivudine(LMV)(ADV/LMV,n = 27) for more than 12 mo. Patients were monitored at least every 3-4 mo during ADV-based combination therapy by clinical examination as well as biochemical and virological assessments. Hepatitis B virus(HBV) DNA levels were measured by realtime PCR and logarithmically transformed for analysis. Cumulative rates of virologic response(VR; HBV DNA hod,and the difference was determined by a logrank test. Multivariate logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards models were used to identify independent risk factors significantly associated with short-term and long-term VR,***: Baseline median HBV DNA levels were 5.53(2.81-7.63) log10 IU/m L. The most commonly observed ETV genotypic mutation sites were rt184 and rt202. Patients were treated for a median of 27(12-45) mo. Overall,cumulative VR rates at 6,12,24,and 36 mo were 26%,36%,45%,and 68%,respectively. Patients treated with the ADV/ETV combination showed higher cumulative VR rates(35%,43%,65%,and 76%,respectively) than those with the ADV/LAM combination(18%,30%,30%,and 62%,respectively; P = 0.048). In the multivariate analysis,low baseline HBV DNA levels(< 5.2 log10 IU/m L) and initial virologic response at 3 mo(IVR-3; HBV DNA < 3.3 log10 IU/m L after 3 mo) were independent predictive factors for VR. Patients with favorable predictors achieved cumulative VR rates up to 90% at 36 mo. We examined the changes in numerous skin conditions before and after the ap-plication of interferential current therapy to various regions of healthy male bodies. In this study, we assessed the differences in the skin’s sebum, moisture levels, pores, wrinkles, pigmentation, and elasticity on the shoulders, lower back, and the knees of Korean males in their 20s. A total of 30 healthy males were in-cluded in the study. We used a skin diagnosis meter as a device for measuring the state of the skin. A statistical difference was found when comparing the pre- and post-measurement values in regards to the moisture levels, wrinkles, and pig-mentation. In the correlation analysis results, the sebum and pigmentation, moisture levels and wrinkles, moisture levels and pigmentation, and moisture levels and elasticity were all positively correlated, respectively. The results of this study partially suggest that a change in skin condition is associated with ex-ternal stimulation. The study also found that the effects of the application of in-terferential current therapy on the various skin conditions may differ depending on the region of the body that the application is conducted as well.

AIM To determine adiponectin expression in colonic tissue of murine colitis and systemic cytokine expression after melatonin treatments and sleep *** The following five groups of C57BL/6 mice were used in this study:(1) group Ⅰ,control;(2) group Ⅱ,2% DSS induced colitis for 7 d;(3) group Ⅲ,2% DSS induced colitis and melatonin treatment;(4) group Ⅳ,2% DSS induced colitis with sleep deprivation(SD) using specially designed and modified multiple platform water baths; and(5) group V,2% DSS induced colitis with SD and melatonin treatment. Melatonin(10 mg/kg) or saline was intraperitoneally injected daily to mice for 4 d. The body weight was monitored daily. The degree of colitis was evaluated histologically after sacrificing the mice. Immunohistochemical staining and Western blot analysis was performed using anti-adiponectin antibody. After sampling by intracardiac punctures,levels of serum cytokines were measured by ELISA. RESULTS Sleep deprivation in water bath exacerbated DSS induced colitis and worsened weight loss. Melatonin injection not only alleviated the severity of mucosal injury,but also helped survival during stressful condition. The expression level of adiponectin in mucosa was decreased in colitis,with the lowest level observed in colitis combined with sleep deprivation. Melatonin injection significantly(P < 0.05) recovered the expression of adiponectin. The expression levels of IL-6 and IL-17 were increased in the serum of mice with DSS colitis but decreased after melatonin injection. CONCLUSION This study suggested that melatonin modulated adiponectin expression in colonic tissue and melatonin and adiponectin synergistically potentiated antiinflammatory effects on colitis with sleep deprivation.

An experiment was conducted in the Jeollabuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services,Korea from February to June 2017,to study the effect of polyethylene glycol(PEG)on the germination of kenaf seeds variety‘Jangdae’,which treated with seven PEG concentrations(0%,10%,20%,25%,30%,35%and 40%)for 24 h at 20°C in the dark,and evaluate the effect of fungicide on surging kenaf seed germination in the *** showed that the critical concentration rate needed to hasten germination based on germination percentage,times to reach 50%of the final germination rate(T50)and mean *** days to germination(MDG)is using 10%PEG.A maximum germination rate of 83.8%using hydro-priming(HP)(seed treated with HP)was observed during the first 12 h of *** control’s(Jangdae seed)germination increased sharply and reached a maximum germination rate of 53.2%on the 21st day in the *** 21 d,germination of all priming treatments ranged from 13.8%to 26.3%.The palisade layer(PAL)after priming treatment was more damaged than that of the ***,a significant difference on the acid level between the control and PEG priming treatment(phowed that application of fungicide after priming optimizes seed germination and ***,it is recommended to invigorate the kenaf seed before planting.

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is known as a multipurpose crop producing biomass for energy thus, the study was conducted to select the elite mutants with higher biomass produced through mutation. Obtained from the National Agricultural Genetic Resources Center (NAGRC) in Korea, the seeds of the original natural resource named IT202801 (control) were irradiated with 250 Gy gamma-ray. The agronomic performances, genetic variation and histological analysis of the elite mutant lines were investigated at M2 generation in comparison with the control. Significant differences were observed from the previous three evaluations of the eight mutants. Nine plants, including the control and eight mutants, had little difference in the number of flowering days from July 23 to July 25. The leaf shape of the control was entire, while the leaf shape of the mutant was palmate. Of the eight lines, M2IT20-5 showed better performance in regard to diameter, dry weight and seed weight per plant. The random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis produced a genetic diversity of 72.7% within the genotypes used. A dendrogram was constructed based on the RAPD fragments. Differentiation was demonstrated between the control and kenaf mutants. Taken together, the mutant line, M2IT20-5, can be useful as a resource for high biomass production.

Purpose: The mandibular condyle is usually reconstructed with costochondral graft or alloplastic materials like metal prosthesis。however, the complex defect related with facial soft tissue and condylar-ramal bone, conventional non-vascularized costochondral graft is not sufficient to restore the function and contour。For this indication, we do vascularized costochondral graft with serratus anterior muscle。The Purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and their long-term results of reconstruction of mandibular ramal-condylar defect using vascularized costochondral graft with serratus anterior muscle。Methods: Since 1999, total 16 cases of mandibular ramal-condylar defect were reconstructed using vascularized costochondral graft with serratus anterior muscle。Flap viability, TMJ function, graft resorption rate, restoration of soft tissue contour, donor site morbidity were evaluated as the clinical outcomes and efficacy of this flap。Results- The average mouth opening was distinctly improved at inter-incisal distance after the follow-up of 6 months period postoperatively, nevertheless, lateral jaw movement was limited at the affected side and deviated to that side in the jaw opening。Only 4 cases became false ankylosed after operation。For correction of this, we did the Gap arthorplasty to improve the opening mouth。Good cosmetics and viability were found。Ramal height decrease was found not to be appeared altogether with absence of donor sit morbidity。Conclusions- On the basis of these promising results, free vascularized costochondral grafts with serratus anterior muscle may be the more attractive method for the reconstruction of mandibular ramal and condylar defect。

It is largely unknown whether lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)or acute retention of urine(AROU)is linked to shorter life expectancy in *** conducted a multicenter,retrospective database analysis of patients undergoing transurethral resection of prostate(TURP)to study their *** Cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier analysis with stratification to age and indication of TURP were *** further performed an age-and sex-matched survival analysis with the general population using data from the Census and Statistics Department of the hong Kong Special Administrative Region(hong Kong,China).From January 2002 to December 2012,3496 patients undergoing TURP were included in our study,with 1764 patients in the LUTS group and 1732 patients in the AROU *** age,ischemic heart disease,cerebrovascular accident,and AROU were risk factors of *** agedhose in the LUTS group,but such difference was not demonstrated in patients aged>80 *** to the general population,younger patients in the LUTS group appeared to have better survival(younger patients in the AROU group had worse survival(80 years,survival was similar with the general population in both the LUTS and AROU *** conclusion,AROU at young age was associated with mortality,while early detection and management of LUTS may improve survival.

VLA continuum maps of the ON1 region at 1.3-cm and 2-cm wavelengths are presented. The electron density 10～4/cm3and the mass 10-3M（?） of the HII region ON1 are derived by adopting a shell model. A young B star is expected to be embedded in the center of ionized gas. The continuum spectrum from the ionized shell is discussed in detail. We give s set of equations from which the physical parameters of HII region can be obtained. For ON1, the shell swept up by the hot stellar wind is ～0.005 pc in thickness. The power index of electron density as the function of distance from the center star is 2.6. We argue that the analysis of continuum spectrum may be an effective means to infer the shell structure of source.
