BACKGROUND Small-for-size grafts (SFSGs) in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) could optimize donor postoperative outcomes and also expand the potential donor pool. Evidence on whether SFSGs would affect medium-term and long-term recipient graft survival is lacking. AIM To evaluate the impact of small-for-size liver grafts on medium-term and longterm graft survival in adult to adult LDLT. METhoDS A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed by searching eligible studies published before January 24, 2019 on PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases. The primary outcomes were 3-year and 5-year graft survival. Incidence of small-for-size syndrome and short term mortality were also extracted. RESULTS This meta-analysis is reported according to the guidelines of the PRISMA 2009 Statement. Seven retrospective observational studies with a total of 1821 LDLT recipients were included in the meta-analysis. SFSG is associated with significantly poorer medium-term graft survival. The pooled odds ratio for 3-year graft survival was 1.58 [95% confidence interval 1.10-2.29, P = 0.014]. On the other hand, pooled results of the studies showed that SFSG had no significant discriminatory effect on 5-year graft survival with an odds ratio of 1.31 (95% confidence interval 0.87-1.97, P = 0.199). Furthermore, incidence of small-for-size syndrome detected in recipients of SFSG ranged from 0-11.4% in the included studies. CONCLUSION SFSG is associated with inferior medium-term but not long-term graft survival. Comparable long-term graft survival based on liver graft size shows that smaller grafts could be accepted for LDLT with appropriate flow modulatory measures. Close follow-up for graft function is warranted within 3 years after liver transplantation.

We have designed, developed and prototyped multiple of low-cost high performance packages for serial and parallel transmitters and receivers, in particular, the novel chip-in-plastic (CiP) package designed for 10G serial transmission for data communications.

AIM： To investigate the effect of Patrinia scabiosaefolia （PS） on the cholecystokinin （CCK） octapeptide-induced acute pancreatitis （AP） in rats.METhoDS： Wistar rats weighing 240-260 g were divided into three groups：（1） Normal saline-treated group; （2） treatment with PS at 100 mg/kg group, in which PS was administered orally, followed by subcutaneous administration of 75μg/kg CCK octapeptide three times after 1, 3 and 5 h, and this whole procedure was repeated for 5 d; （3） treatment with saline group, in which the protocols were the same as in treatment group with PS. We determined the pancreatic weight/ body weight ratio, the levels of pancreatic HSP60, HSP72 and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Repeated CCK octapeptide treatment resulted in the typical laboratory findings of experimentally induced pancreatitis.RESULTS： PS reduced the pancreatic weight/body weight ratio, the levels of serum amylase and lipase, and inhibited expressions of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the CCK octapeptide-induced AP. Furthermore, PS pretreatment increased the pancreatic levels of HSP60 and HSP72.CONCLUSION： Pretreatment with PS has an antiiinflammatory effect on CCK octapeptide-induced AP.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the most common dementia,is characterized by potentially neurotoxic aggregation of Aβ peptide and tau protein,and their deposition as amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles(NFTs).Tau aggregation also occurs in other common neurodegenerative *** dementia(FTD)can be caused by tau mutations that increase the susceptibility of tau to hyperphosphorylation and aggregation,which may cause neuronal dysfunction and deposition of NFTs.17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin(17-AAG)is a potent inhibitor of heat shock protein 90(Hsp90),a cytosolic chaperone implicated in the proper folding and functions of a repertoire of client proteins.17-AAG binds to Hsp90 and enhances degradation of Hsp90 client *** sought to determine whether 17-AAG can reduce Aβ and tau pathology in the brains of AD and FTD model mice expressing Aβ or P301L mutant tau,*** were randomized to receive 25,5,or 0 mg/kg 17-AAG thrice weekly from age eight to 11 *** was performed by rotarod test on motor function,on the area occupied by plaques in hippocampus or NFTs in medulla tissue sections,and on mortality.A high dose of 17-AAG tended to decrease NFTs in male mice(p=0.08).Further studies are required to confirm the effect of 17-AAG in diseases of tau aggregation.

Objective:To examine the association between mothers’health-related quality of life(HRQOL)and their children’s HRQOL and behavior in low-income ***:Mothers of 278 children aged 6-12 years from low-income families were invited to complete the Child Health Questionnaire Parent Form 50(CHQ-PF50)and the Strength and Dif-ficulties Questionnaire(SDQ)for their children as well as the 12-item Short-Form Health Survey version 2(SF-12v2)and the Patient Health Questionnaire-2(PHQ-2).Multiple linear regressions with mother-child pairs as the unit of analysis were performed to examine the associations between maternal and child variables with adjustment of mother-and child-level ***:Compared with the general population,low-income mothers had a lower mean SF-12v2 mental component summary score and their children also had lower mean CHQ-PF50 physi-cal and psychosocial summary scores and SDQ total difficulties *** of mothers with SF-12v2 scores below the population mean of 50 had significantly worse CHQ-PF50 scores and higher SDQ total difficulties *** mother’s PHQ-2 depression status had no association with the child’s CHQ-PF50 ***:Our findings suggest that more attention should be paid to reducing the negative impact of health problems on mothers’daily roles in childcare in low-income families.

This study examines the long-term variations of tropical cyclone(TC) frequency and intensity in the South China Sea(SCS) and the vicinity of hong Kong from 1961 to 2010 based on the best track data of four main weather agencies in the western North Pacific, namely the hong Kong Observatory, China Meteorological Administration, Regional Specialized Meteorological Center Tokyo and Joint Typhoon Warning Center of the United States. To account for the discrepancy in the best track data between agencies, the maximum sustained wind speeds are standardized to the 10-minute average before data analysis. Moreover, a sensitivity assessment based on three different data scenarios is also conducted to study the uncertainty in trend analysis due to the discrepancy in the datasets from various agencies. The results show that, likely modulated by the El Ni?o Southern Oscillation and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, there exist strong inter-annual and inter-decadal variations in the TC frequency in the SCS and the vicinity of hong *** the long-term trend, all dataset/scenario combinations depict a decrease in the TC frequency in the SCS and the vicinity of hong Kong during the study period, but the trend is not statistically significant at 5% level for most of the datasets. As for the TC intensity, the discrepancy between weather agencies remains very substantial even when the difference in the wind speed averaging period is accounted for. The large differences in the available datasets do not allow for a reliable detection of the long-term trend of the TC intensity in the SCS. The study of the TC impacts on hong Kong reveals that there is no significant trend on the TC-induced extreme rainfall in hong Kong. The extreme high winds associated with TCs within 500 km range of hong Kong have no significant trend at Waglan Island(offshore island) while those of the urban station at Kai Tak have a signifi-cant decreasing trend.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the predominant impairment of neurons in the hippocampus and the formation of amyloid plaques,hyperphosphorylated tau protein,and neurofibrillary tangles in the *** overexpression of amyloid-βprecursor protein(APP)in an AD brain results in the binding of APP intracellular domain(AICD)to Fe65 protein via the C-terminal Fe65-PTB2 interaction,which then triggers the secretion of amyloid-βand the consequent pathogenesis of ***,targeting the interaction between APP and Fe65 can offer a promising therapeutic approach for ***,exosome,a type of extracellular vesicle with diameter around 30–200 nm,has gained much attention as a potential delivery tool for brain diseases,including AD,due to their ability to cross the blood–brain barrier,their efficient uptake by autologous cells,and their ability to be surface-modified with target-specific receptor ***,the engineering of hippocampus neuron cell-derived exosomes to overexpress Fe65,enabled the development of a novel exosome-based targeted drug delivery system,which carried Corynoxine-B(Cory-B,an autophagy inducer)to the APP overexpressed-neuron cells in the brain of AD *** Fe65-engineered HT22 hippocampus neuron cell-derived exosomes(Fe65-EXO)loaded with Cory-B(Fe65-EXO-Cory-B)hijacked the signaling and blocked the natural interaction between Fe65 and APP,enabling APP-targeted delivery of ***,Fe65-EXO-Cory-B induced autophagy in APP-expressing neuronal cells,leading to amelioration of the cognitive decline and pathogenesis in AD mice,demonstrating the potential of Fe65-EXO-Cory-B as an effective therapeutic intervention for AD.
