Objective:To investigate the short and long tenn efficacy of a commercial air ionizer in killing Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus(***)and Dermalophagoides farinae(***)***:The effect of a commercial ionizer on *** and *** was evaluated in the laboratory,using a specially designed *** was assessed after 6,16and 24 hours for direct exposure and after 24,36,48,60 and 72 hours for exposure in simulated *** batches of mites were used for each exposure ***:LT_(50)for direct exposure of ionizer was 10 hours for *** and 18 hours for *** LT_(50)for exposure in simulated mattress was 132 hours or 5.5 days for *** and 72 hours or 3days for ***_(95)for direct exposure of ionizer was 36 hours for *** and ***,the LT_(95)for exposure in simulated mattress was 956 hours or 39.8 days for *** and 403 hours or 16.8 days for ***:This study demonstrates the increasing mite mortalities with increasing exposure time of a commercial ionizer and suggests that negative ions produced by an ionizer kill dust mites and can be used to reduce natural mile populations on exposed surfaces such as floors,clothes,curtains,***,there is reduced efficacy on mites inside stuffed materials as in mattresses and furniture.

Objective:To examined the immediate and 24 hours post-irradiation germicidal effects of UV-C lamp *** and adults of house dust mites Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus(***)and Dermatophagoides farinae(***).Methods:This study investigated the immediate and24 hours post irradiation mortalities of adult mites exposed to UV-C at different exposure times(5mins,10 mins,15 mins,20 mins,30 mins and 60 mins)and distances(10 cm,25 cm,33 cm,45 cm and 55 cm).Fresh eggs of the 2 dust mites were also irradiated at 10,35 and 55 cm for 0.5,1,2,3,and 5 minutes,and observed daily post-irradiation for up to 7 ***:Highest immediate mortality of 100%occurred with direct irradiation al 10 cm distance from UV-C lamp and for 60mins,for both species of *** post 24 hours mean mortality rates were(58.4±17.4)%for *** and(27.7±9.7)%for *** when irradiated for 1 hour at 55 cm distance under UV-C *** mites were irradiated in the presence of culture media,the highest mortality rates were lower compared to the direct irradiation;at 10 cm distance and 60 mins exposure,the mean mortality was(74.0±6.8)%for *** and(70.3±6.7)%for *** hatchability for both species of mites was also notably reduced by greater than 50%following ***:Ultraviolet C irradiation is lethal to an array of organisms by damaging their nucleic acids(DNA and RNA).This study demonstrates the increasing mite mortalities with increasing exposure times and decreasing distances.

Objective:To establish a polymerase chain reaction(PCR) technique based on cytochrome b {cytb) gene of mitochondria DNA(mtDNA) for blood meal ***:The PCR technique was established based on published information and validated using blood sample of laboratory animals of which their whole gene sequences are available in *** was next performed to compile gene sequences of different species of wild *** primers used were complementary to the conserved region of the cytb gene of vertebrate's mtDNA.A total of 100 blood samples,both from laboratory animals and wild rodents were collected und *** obtained unknown sequences were compared with those in the GenBank database using BLAST program to identify the vertebrate animal ***:Gene sequences of 11 species of wild animals caught in 9 localities of Peninsular Malaysia were compiled using the established PCR. The animals involved were Rattus(rattus) tanezumi,Rattus tiomanicus,Leopoldamys sabanus, Tupaia glis,Tupaia minor,Niviventor cremoriventor,Rhinosciurus laticaudatus,Calloseiurus caniseps,Sundamys muelleri,Rattus rajah,and Maxomys *** BLAST results confirmed the host with exact or nearly exact matches(>89%identity).Ten new gene sequences have been deposited in CenBank database since September ***:This study indicates that the PCR direct sequencing system using universal primer sets for vertebrate cytb gene is a promising technique for blood meal identification.

Objective:To examine the acaricidal effects of the essential oil of Cymbopogon citratits leaf extract(lemongrass)and ethanolic Azadirachta indica leaf extract(neem)against house dust mites Dermatophagoides farinae(***)and Dermalophagoides pteronyssinus(***).Methods:Twenty-five adults mites were placed onto treated filter paper that is soaked with plant extract and been tested at different concentrations(50.00%,25.00%,12.50%,6.25%and 3.13%)and exposure times(24hrs,48hrs,72hrs and 96 hrs).All treatments were replicated 7 times,and the experiment repeated *** topical and contact activities of the two herbs were ***:Mortalities from lemongrass extract were higher than neem for both topical and contact *** 50%concentration,both 24 hrs topical and contact exposures to lemongrass resulted in more than 91%mortalities for both species of *** the same concentration and exposure time,neem resulted in topical mortalities of 40.3%and 15.7%against *** and *** respectively;contact mortalities were 8.0%and 8.9%against the 2 mites,*** was no difference in topical mortalities of *** from exposure to concentrations oflemongrass and neem up to 12.50%;lemongrass was more effective than neem at the higher ***:Generally,topical mortalities of *** due to lemongrass are higher than that due to *** mortalities of lemongrass are always higher that neem against both species of mites.

On the December 25,2020,*** Jie,the Emeritus Professor and former Dean of the Faculty of Education at Nanjing Normal University passed *** sudden news struck me and recalled my nearly 30 years’friendship with *** since 1991,stirring up also my memories of pre-1949 Christian colleges of China,and the promotion of“education of love”at Ginling College and Nanjing Normal University,from the time of *** Yifang,*** Vautrin,*** Xingzhi and *** *** this paper,I shall recall the various meetings with *** Jie,and how her life has inspired my re-thinking of the development of“education of love”in China.I shall relate especially her humanistic educational ideals,especially the“education for life”and“cultivating human beings”with *** Xingzhi’s“education of love.”Their educational ideals reflected the humanistic education taught at the University of Nanking and Ginling College in the first half of 20th century *** the two colleges had brought in a Western style of education,they had exemplified good models of indigenization,especially regarding how humanistic education could become Sinifized in Chinese soil today.

Accelerated materials development with machine learning(ML)assisted screening and high throughput experimentation for new photovoltaic materials holds the key to addressing our grand energy ***-driven ML is envisaged as a decisive enabler for new perovskite materials ***,its full potential can be severely curtailed by poorly represented molecular descriptors(or fingerprints).Optimal descriptors are essential for establishing effective mathematical representations of quantitative structure-property *** we reveal that our persistent functions(PFs)based learning models offer significant accuracy advantages over traditional descriptor based models in organic-inorganic halide perovskite(OIHP)materials design and have similar performance as deep learning *** multiscale simplicial complex approach not only provides a more precise representation for OIHP structures and underlying interactions,but also has better transferability to ML *** results demonstrate that advanced geometrical and topological invariants are highly efficient feature engineering approaches that can markedly improve the performance of learning models for molecular data ***,new structure-property relationships can be established between our invariants and *** anticipate that our molecular representations and featurization models will transcend the limitations of conventional approaches and lead to breakthroughs in perovskite materials design and discovery.

Structure and species composition of tree stands on verges and slopes along a major highway in hong Kong

Arboricultural research focusing on transport land use was lacking in hong *** highway slopes were registered in the Systematic Identification of Maintenance Responsibility of Slopes in the Territory(SIMAR),abbreviated as SIMAR *** aimed to analyze patterns in the structure and species composition of the tree stock along a highway in hong Kong and examined how a slope registration system could help explain the characteristics of urban *** 53 slopes and 52 verges along San Tin Highway,hong Kong were randomly *** trees on each slope and verge were collectively sampled as a tree *** variables,namely tree abundance,species richness,maximum tree height,Shannon-Wiener diversity,Simpson's dominance,and Pielou's evenness were measured for each *** addition,a limited visual tree risk assessment was *** 7,209 trees in 23 species were *** richness was low,ranging from one to eight species per *** and non-SIMAR slopes were *** slopes had significantly higher species richness,diversity,evenness but lower dominance,with mean difference of 1.41 species,0.17,0.17 *** slopes were associated with lower tree risk *** training regression models,boosting as an ensemble method arbitrarily raised the explanatory power and the predictive accuracy of some *** height,length,angle and area could be significant predictors of the biodiversity-related *** research can sample more habitat characteristics related to the structure and species composition of slopes and verges which were important components of urban forestry.
