Superelastic metastable Ti-Mo-Sn alloys with high elastic admissible strain for potential bio-implant applications

The demand for titanium alloys simultaneously having high elastic admissible strain and large recovery strain for bio-implant applications is ***-free Ti-based shape memory alloys are promising candidates for obtaining the required multifunctional *** this study,a wide content range of(0-15)wt%of low-cost,toxicity-free,and high-biocompatible Sn element was added to the Ti-8Mo(wt%)alloy to study its effect on the superelastic recovery and mechanical properties of biomedical Ti-Mo-Sn *** tailoring Sn content,desired multifunctional properties of high elastic admissible strain and room temperature superelasticity were achieved in the studied Ti-Mo-Sn *** was found that the increase in Sn content stabilized theβphase and a singleβphase was obtained at room temperature in Ti-8Mo-(13,15)Sn *** addition of Sn modified the lattice parameters of theα″martensite andβphase and affected the lattice deformation stain ofβ→α″.The lattice deformation strain along the[011]βdirection was found to be decreased by-0.26%/wt%*** room temperature superelasticity with a recovery strain of 3.1%and an elastic admissible strain of 1%was obtained in the Ti-8Mo-13Sn *** Sn content increased to 15 wt%,a high elastic admissible strain of 1.56%and a recovery strain of 2.0%were *** Ti-Mo-Sn alloys with excellent multifunctional properties are promising candidates for bio-implant applications.

This paper presents a high-efficiency technique based on dielectrophoresis (DEP) for assembling metal, semiconductor, and polymer nanorods, which are synthesized by electrochemical deposition (ECD). The assembly patterns of these nanorods (width: 20 nm; length: 7 μm) were designed using a finite element method (FEM) simulation tool. Further, these nanorods were used in our experiment after their assembly patterns were fabricated. The assembly yield was found to be approximately 70% at an AC voltage of 30 Vp-p and at frequencies of 20 and 30 kHz, and the DC voltage prevented the random alignment of the nanorods at the edge of the assembly pattern. Moreover, the above-mentioned nanorods, which had different permittivities, were found to have similar assembly yields. The proposed method can be improved and applied to nanostructure device fabrication.

Function-regeneration of non-porous hydrolyzed-MOF-derived materials

A facile synthetic strategy based on a water-based process is developed for the preparation of metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived materials by revisiting the hydrolyzed non-porous metal-organic frameworks (h-MOF). The poor water stability of MOF has been recognized as key limitations for its commercialization and large-scale applications because the hydrolysis resulted in the complete loss of their functionalities. however, we found that the negative effect of hydrolysis on MOF can be nullified during the heat treatment. As similar to the intact MOF, h-MOF can be used as a precursor for the preparation of MOF-derived materials from porous MOF-derived carbons (MDCs) to MDC@ZnO composites. The property of h-MOF-derived materials is almost equivalent to that of MOF-derived materials. In addition, h-MOF turned the weakness of water instability to the strength of facile water-based process for hybridization. With the demonstration of the hybrid composite between h-MDC@ZnO and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as a prototype example, it exhibited superior electrochemical performance when evaluated as an electrode material for lithium-ion batteries.

Solid-state fiber dye-sensitized solar cells(SS-FDSSCs) have been the subject of intensive attention and development in recent years. Although this field is only in its infancy, metal–organic frameworks(MOFs) are one such material that has been utilized to further improve the power conversion efficiency of solar cells. In this study, MOF-integrated DSSCs were shown to have potential in the development of solar cell devices with efficiency comparable to or better than that of conventional solar cells. The power conversion efficiency(PCE) of SS-FDSSCs was improved by embedding MOF-801 into a mesoporous-TiO_(2)(mp-TiO_(2)) layer, which was used as a photoanode in SS-FDSSCs, which are inherently flexible. The PCE of the MOF-integrated SS-FDSSCs was 6.50%, which is comparable to that of the reference devices(4.19%).The MOF-801 enhanced SS-FDSSCs decreased the series resistance(R_(s)) value, resulting in effective electron extraction with improved short-circuit current density(J_(SC)), while also increasing the shunt resistance(R_(sh)) value to prevent the recombination of photo-induced electrons. The result is an improved fill factor and, consequently, a higher value for the PCE.

Spontaneous rupture of hepatic metastasis from a thymoma: A case report

Bleeding resulting from spontaneous rupture of the liver is an infrequent but potentially life threatening complication that may be associated with an underlying liver disease. A hepatocellular carcinoma or hepatic adenoma is frequently reported is such cases. however, hemoperitoneum resulting from a hepatic metastatic thymoma is extremely rare. Here, we present a case of a 62-year-old man with hypovolemic shock induced by ruptured hepatic metastasis from a thymoma. At the first hospital admission, the patient had a 45-mm anterior mediastinal mass that was eventually diagnosed as a type A thymoma. The mass was excised, and the patient was disease-free for 6 years. He experienced sudden-onset right upper quadrant pain and was again admitted to our hospital. We noted large hemoperitoneum with a 10-cm encapsulated mass in S5/8 and a 2.3-cm nodular lesion in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. He was diagnosed with hepatic metastasis from the thymoma, and he underwent chemotherapy and surgical excision.

临床上应用超分割放射治疗疗效不一,为了了解超分割放射的生物学特点,本实验采用200μm直径HeLaS-3球体为模型,从生长、集落形成率和细胞周期变化（用流式细胞计）等方面比较单次放射,每日一次2 Gy常规放射和两组超分割放射对人体肿瘤细胞的增殖和动力学的影响。结果:1,在相同总剂量条件下,超分割放射比常规放射和单次放射抑制球体生长作用小。2,球体受放射后由胰酶消化分散成单细胞,其集落形成率以超分割放射组为高。与第一结果相一致,提示在五天疗程中细胞有一定修复和再分布发生。3,细胞周期变化检测表明放射后都有G2+M期细胞比例增加,伴以G1和S期细胞比例减少。常规放射后G2+M期细胞比例较为恒定,而超分割放射后波动大。放射后RNA含量无明显变化。如采用较大直径内含乏氧细胞的球体为模型,在分割放射期间还可能有再充氧发生,实验结果可能和本实验差异较大。

Enhanced stability of nano-emulsified paclitaxel

The main goal of this work was to develop an optimal self-microemulsifying paclitaxel prepared with PLGA and solubilizer such as tetraglycol, Cremophor ELP, and Labrasol. The prepared PTx-loaded SMES showed the size of the range of 80–130 nm by dy-namic light scattering and a spherical shape by atomic force microscopy. In experiment of storage stability in deionized water (DW) or blood condition, PTx-loaded SMES showed good stability in DW and comparable stability in blood condition at 37oC for 7 days. In addition, PTx-loaded SMES showed a sig-nificant inhibitory effect on B16F10 melanoma proli-feration. In conclusion, we confirmed that the for-mulations tried in this study could be used as admin-istration form for animal trials of PTx.
