The DSSCs (Dye-sensitized solar cells) with photoanode using different sizes of particulate TiO2 (18 nm, 30 nm and 200 nm) have been fabricated. The synthetic organic dyes (LEG4) was used as photosensitizer. The present work mainly investigates the influence of TiO2 photoanode modification on light absorption, charge transport and carrier recombination which are then correlated to the device efficiency measured under AM1.5 solar irradiance. The DSSCs with photoanode using larger 200-nm-TiO2 as light scatterer outperform other devices without larger TiO2. It is attributed to an increase in harvesting photons (by UV-vis spectroscopic measurement) via light scattering, smaller ideality factor (by dark current analysis), thus lower recombination possibility, lower charge transfer resistance and longer electron lifetime (by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) which results in longer electron diffusion and higher charge collection efficiency. The photoanode modification in DSSCs has a strong impact on optical and charge transport properties, and eventually on the photovoltaic performance.

Objective: The present study explored the effects of the combined herbal therapy consisting of curcumin(CUR) and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi(FLL) on aspects of bone ***: Prior to analyzing the ability of this novel combined herbal therapy to promote aspects of bone regeneration, its cytotoxicity was determined using MC3 T3-E1 cells(pre-osteoblast model). Cell proliferation was evaluated using phase-contrast microscopy and cell differentiation was estimated using alkaline phosphatase activity. The effect of the combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) was also assessed in terms of mineralization in the extracellular matrix(ECM) of cultured cells. Further, to explore the molecular mechanisms of bone formation, time-dependent expression of bone-regulating protein biomarkers was also ***: Combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) significantly upregulated the viability, proliferation and differentiation of MC3 T3-E1 cells compared to the monotherapy of CUR or FLL. The magnitude of ECM mineralization(calcium deposition) was also higher in MC3 T3-E1 cells treated with combined *** time-dependent expression of bone-forming protein biomarkers revealed that the tendency of expression of these bone-regulating proteins was remarkably higher in cells treated with combined ***: The co-administration of CUR and FLL had superior promotion of elements of bone regeneration in cultured cells, thus could be a promising alternative herbal therapy for the management of bone erosive disorders such as osteoporosis.

Eurycoma Longifolia as a potential adoptogen of male sexual health: a systematic review on clinical studies

Eurycoma longifolia(EL) has been well recognized as a booster of male sexual health. Over the past few decades, numerous in vivo animal studies and human clinical trials have been conducted across the globe to explore the promising role of EL in managing various male sexual disorders, which include erectile dysfunction, male infertility, low libido, and downregulated testosterone levels. The aim of the present review is to analyze and summarize the literature on human clinical trials which revealed the clinical significance and therapeutic feasibility of EL in improving male sexual health. This systematic review is focused on the following databases: Medline, Wiley Online Library, Bio Med Central, Hindawi, Web of Knowledge, Pub Med Central and Google Scholar, using search terms such as "Eurycoma longifolia", "EL", "Tongkat Ali", "male sexual health", "sexual infertility", "erectile dysfunction", "male libido", and "testosterone levels". Notably, only human clinical studies published between 2000 and 2014 were selected and thoroughly reviewed for relevant citations. Out of 150 articles, 11 met the inclusion criteria. The majority of articles included were randomized placebo-controlled trials, multiple cohort studies, or pilot trials. All these studies demonstrated considerable effects of EL on male sexual health disorders. Among them, 7 studies revealed remarkable association between the use of EL and the efficacy in the treatment of male sexual disorders, and remaining 4 studies failed to demonstrate sufficient effects on male sexual health. In summary, there is convincing evidence for the prominence of EL in improving the male sexual health. The review also substantiates the use of current methodology in the development of novel and more rationale natural herbal medicines for the management of male sexual disorders.

Eurycoma longifolia Jack(***) is a well-recognized traditional herbal medicine that offers a wide dynamic range of biomedical applications including anti-osteoporotic, anticancer, anti-proliferative, anti-malarial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, aphrodisiac, antiinflammatory, anxiolytic, anti-diabetic, anti-rheumatism and anti-ulcer *** review aims to overview the pharmacokinetic and a pharmacodynamic algorithm of *** and its bioactive *** of pharmacokinetic profile revealed that *** exhibit higher bioavailability, high volume of distribution, slow elimination rate, and does not show inhibitory effects on cytochrome P450 *** has been used, alone or in combination with other pharmacological agents, in the form of crude extracts, standard extracts, or decoctions of different plant parts(i.e., herbs, shrubs, stem, leaves, and roots) for the treatment of various ailments in animals and *** various bioactive constituents, eurycomanone has been found to be the most remarkable, super-stable, versatile, and most potent phytochemical(isolated or extracted from root extracts) against various types of animals and human *** on its well-established pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles, we suggested that *** can be a well-accepted complementary and alternative medicine for the treatment of different types of human ailments.

委婉语是世界民族语言中普遍存在的语言现象,也是在社会言语交际中不可或缺的重要组成部分。汉语学习者在运用汉语进行交际时,除了要符合语法规则外,还要符合语用规则,即我们所说的语言得体性。委婉语词的正确运用是语言得体性的一个重要标志,学生了解并掌握汉语委婉语词,有助于提高汉语交际能力。有鉴于此,本文根据《汉语委婉语词典》(张拱贵主编,北京语言大学出版社,1996年)中编录的委婉语词汇,并对照权威的《现代汉语词典》(商务印书馆,2009年),找出《现代汉语词典》中收录的《汉语委婉语词典》的委婉语词,将这些委婉语词与缅语中的委婉语词从死亡与殡葬、疾病与伤残、分泌与排泄、性爱与生育、身体器官与生理变化、犯罪与惩罚、战乱与灾祸、家庭与婚配、人际关系与称谓、职业与境遇、钱财与经济、品质与性情等方面进行语义对比,进而分析汉缅委婉语词文化内涵的异同,并进一步为缅甸汉语教学提供参考借鉴。通过研究发现：一些汉缅委婉语词委婉语义相同,表达也相同或相近;有些汉缅委婉语词虽然委婉语义相同,但表达相异或完全不同;有些汉语委婉语词在缅语里找不到对应词;同样很多缅语的委婉语词在汉语里也没有对应词。基于这样的对比,文章分析了汉缅委婉语词背后体现的文化内涵的异同,并在此基础上提出了相应的教学建议。文章希望能够帮助缅甸学生正确把握和运用汉语委婉语,以提高汉语表达的准确性和得体性,从而提高汉语交际能力。

Homeostatic relevance of vitamin D in maintaining male fertility in human: Down-regulation of oxidative stress and up-regulation of anti-oxidative defense and steroidal hormones

Objective:To evaluate correlation between the levels of vitamin D and male infertility as well as to determine the efficacy of vitamin D in improving the male fertility by up-regulating the levels of testosterone and ***: In the present study, 130 male patients (aged 25-70 years) having fertility defects were screened and 145 healthy individuals were taken as control. All human subjects were screened for 4-hydroxynonenal, isoprostane-F2α, 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine, vitamin D, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, testosterones, malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and nitric ***: The screening analysis revealed that the levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, and testosterone were lower in male infertile subjects compared to healthy subjects. Similarly, the levels of vitamin D [(17.17 ± 2.30) ng/mL] and calcium[(6.29 ± 0.31) mg/dL] were significantly lower in infertile groups compared to the normal healthy groups. Moreover, the study revealed that the levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase were significantly higher in healthy subjects compared to the infertile ***:Vitamin D exhibits strong relevance to male fertility by maintaining the levels of sex hormones (luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, and testosterone), up-regulating the antioxidant defense (superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase), and down-regulating the oxidative stress (malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, and inducible nitric oxide synthase species).
