This letter discusses the incidence of anal cancer among Crohn's disease(CD)-related *** with CD have been demonstrated to be at a higher risk of developing small bowel and colorectal cancers than healthy *** CD-associated anal cancer is relatively rare,patients with CD accom-panied by anal or perianal lesions are at increased risk of anal ***-tionally,compared to ulcerative colitis,which is also an inflammatory disease,CD-related anal cancer is often detected at an advanced stage owing to the complexity of CD and is associated with a poor prognosis with frequent local ***,the detection of early-stage cancer is crucial for improving the ***,the surveillance methods recommended for CD-related malignancies in the United States and Europe are similar to those for ulcerative *** are not appropriate for detecting CD-related malignancies in the recto-anal ***,there is an urgent need for surveillance programs aimed at the early detection of malignant anorectal lesions in patients with CD.

Ice accretion is the phenomenon that super-cooled water droplets impinge and accrete on a body. It is well known that ice accretion on blades and airfoils leads to performance degradation and severe accidents. For this reason, experimental investigations have been carried out using flight tests or icing tunnels. However, it is too expensive, dangerous, and difficult to set actual icing conditions. Hence, computational fluid dynamics is useful to predict ice accretion. A rotor blade is one of jet engine components where ice accretes. Therefore, the authors focus on the ice accretion on a rotor blade in this study. Three-dimensional icing phenomena on the rotor blade of a commercial axial blower are computed here, and ice accretion on the rotor blade is numerically investigated.

An anomaly in persistent right umbilical vein of portal vein diagnosed by ultrasonography

AIM: To detect the anomaly in the persistent right umbilical vein (PRUV) of portal vein (PV) with deviation of the ligamentum tere and left-sided gallbladder. METHODS: A total of 5783 candidates for routine analysis were evaluated for hepatic vascular abnormalities by ultrasonography. RESULTS: Ten candidates (0.17%) had a portal vein anomaly with a rightward-deviated ligamentum tere. The blood-flow velocity in the PRUV of the portal vein (17.7±3.0 cm/s) of the 10 cases was similar to that of the right anterior portal trunk (17.6±4.1 cm/s). However, the vessel diameter of the PRUV (φ12.4±4.4 mm) was larger than the right anterior portal trunk (φ6.1?.9 mm). Therefore, flow volume in the anomalous portion (0.97±0.30 L/min) was more than that in the right anterior portal trunk (0.18±0.05 L/min). CONCLUSION: The anomaly plays an important role in intra-hepatic PV flow.

In this paper we propose a COncurrent Production Engineering System （COPES） for the flexible transfer line （FTL） layout design in a restricted area. COPES first determines the buffer size in front of the bay of each machine tool in the FTL and then initializes a computer aided design （CAD） system to draw the FTL in a restricted area. We develop a set of modules systems which have been integrated into a single framework, in accordance with the practice of concurrent engineering. Concurrent engineering involves the cooperation of these activities. It＇s expected that the developed COPES can improve the cooperation between production engineers＇ and the plant designer. This can be done by enabling the production engineers＇ to make better decision regarding FTL buffer size.

We report a case of advanced gastric cancer, with cervical, axillary, and abdominal paraaortic lymph node metastases, that was successfully treated with chemotherapy and surgery. The disease was initially considered unresectable, and the patient was treated with orally administered S-1. Chemotherapy was effective, and all lymph node metastases disappeared after 6 courses. After 27 mo of chemotherapy, the patient underwent curative surgery, with subtotal gastrectomy and lymph node dissection. Histopathological examination revealed many viable poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma cells in the stomach, but no cancer cells in the lymph nodes. The patient is alive, without recurrence, 8 years later. This, therefore, is a case report of an 8-year survivor of advanced gastric cancer with distant lymph node metastasis.

Influence of surfactant concentration on counter-ion induced solubility of poly(pyridine-2,5-diyl)

Protonating the pyridine rings of poly(pyridine-2,5-diyl) with dodecybenzenesulfonic acid and camphorsulphonic acid produces polymer materials which can be dissolved in chloroform (in contrast to the unprotonated polymer, which can only be dissolved in strong acids such as formic acid) and allows mixing the protonated polymers with other chloroform soluble conju- gated polymers for use in electronic devices. The protonating behavior of poly(pyridine-2,5-diyl) with two kinds of surfactants is different in some levels. Dodecybenzenesulfonic acid has higher protonating ability than camphorsulphonic acid.

Photochemical reactions of poly(3-butoxythiophene-2,5-diyl) with chloroform under irradiation with light were studied. The reactions were separately carried out under air, oxygen, and nitrogen. The obtained results showed that this reaction belongs to the pseudo-first-order reaction with a rate constant kobs of 1.4×10?5 s?1 at room temperature. The presence or absence of air, oxygen, and nitrogen did not have obvious effects on the reaction rate under irradiation with light.

Individuals which have invaded urbanized environments are reported to engage in riskier behav-iors,possibly influenced by the scarcity of predators in urbanized ***,we studied the risk-taking behavior of birds which had invaded a new natural environment,rather than an artificial urban environment,using recently established populations of the bull-headed shrike Lanius bu-cephalus,which naturally colonized three subtropical islands in *** compared flight initi-ation distance(FID),the distance at which an individual approached by a human initiates flight,be-tween the islands and the temperate *** was longer for the insular shrikes compared with the mainland shrikes after controlling for other factors,indicating that the individuals which had invaded a new natural environment had a lower propensity for risk-taking.A possible explan-ation for these results is that low risk-taking behavior might be adaptive on the islands due to predation by the black rat Rattus rattus,an unfamiliar predator not found in shrike habitats on the temperate *** studies are needed to examine the nest predation rate,predator species,and nest site selection of these insular shrike populations.
