Strict relation between the substituents or functional groups attached to the coal macromolecules and the generation of the volatile products, e.g., CH4 H2O, CO, CO2, etc., during the coal pyrolysis is an important but confusing subject. In this paper, quadrupole mass spectronletry, gas chromatography, and ^l3C nuclear magnetic resonance are applied to real-time monitoring the formations of volatile products, off-line quantitative determination of the total products from the pyrolysis of a sub-bituminous coal (SC), and the changes of diverse substitents in the SC along with coke foamation, respectively. These measurements are also performed for the pyrolysis of a caking coal to contrast SC. The qualitative and quantitative data reveal that, during coal pyrolysis, the functional groups related with the formation of CO, i.e., ether, carbonyl, and anhydride, can directly gen erate CO via bond breaking, or take a detour of the formation of other intermediates via condensation and recombination firstly. Moreover, the formations of CO2 and CH4 are related to the direct removal of -COO- and -CH3,respectively.

Investigation of plant-bacteria interactions requires quantification of in planta bacterial titers by means of cumbersome and time-consuming colony-counting ***,we devised a broadly applicable tool for bioluminescence-based quantitative and spatial detection of bacteria in *** developed vectors that enable Tn7 transposon-mediated integration of the luxCDABEluciferase operon into a specific genomic location found ubiquitously across bacterial *** vectors allowed for the generation of bioluminescent transformants of various plant pathogenic bacteria from the genera Pseudomonas,Rhizobium(Agrobacterium),and *** luminescence measurements of plant tissues inoculated with bioluminescent Pseudomonas syringae *** DC3000(Pto-lux)reported bacterial titers as accurately as conventional colony-counting assays in Arabidopsis thaliana,Solanum lycopersicum,Nicotiana benthamiana,and Marchantia *** further showed the usefulness of our vectors in converting previously generated Pto derivatives to isogenic bioluminescent ***,quantitative bioluminescence assays using these Pto-lux strains accurately reported the effects of plant immunity and bacterial effectors on bacterial growth,with a dynamic range of four orders of ***,macroscopic bioluminescence imaging illuminated the spatial patterns of Pto-lux growth in/on inoculated plant *** conclusion,our vectors offer untapped opportunities to develop bioluminescence-based assays for a variety of plant-bacteria interactions.

Terzaghi had established soil mechanics as an academic scholarship due to the discovery of the principal of effective stress for saturated soils when he considered the consolidation theory of saturated clay. The reason of the existence of the effective stress is that soil particles and water are composited by incompressible solid and liquid. Although air is very compressible fluid, the principle of effective stress is also used in unsaturated soils in the resent developed numerical analyses. Schrefler＇s equation is most frequently used, but the effective stress is not verified by the experimental results. In this study, the equations for unsaturated soils proposed by Schrefler, Aitchison, Khalili and Khabbaz and Kohgo are compared with using the results of suction controlled consolidometer tests. As a result, the effective stress for unsaturated soils calculated by Schrefler＇s equation was average of them.

BACKGROUND Gangrenous cholecystitis is a form of acute cholecystitis which involves gangrenous alterations in the gallbladder wall and it often follows an acute and serious *** herein report on two cases of very elderly people diagnosed early with gangrenous cholecystitis,who safely underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC)and both demonstrated a good *** SUMMARY Case 1:An 89-year-old *** underwent abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CECT)due to abdominal pain and *** gallbladder wall indicated the absence of contrast enhancement,thus leading to diagnosis of gangrenous cholecystitis and she therefore underwent *** her gallbladder demonstrated diffuse necrosis and it was also partly perforated,she was able to be discharged without any serious *** 2:A 91-year-old *** made an emergency visit with a chief complaint of abdominal *** CECT revealed swelling of the gallbladder and an ambiguous continuity of the gallbladder *** was diagnosed with gangrenous cholecystitis and underwent *** gallbladder had swelling and diffuse *** her preoperative blood culture was positive,she showed a good outcome following *** Although a definite diagnosis of gangrenous cholecystitis is difficult to make prior to surgery,if an early diagnosis can be made and appropriate treatment can be carried out,then even very elderly individuals may be discharged without major complications.

Size and shape are important properties of shrub crops such as blueberries,and they can be particularly useful for evaluating bush architecture suited to mechanical *** overall goal of this study was to develop a 3D imaging approach to measure size-related traits and bush shape that are relevant to mechanical harvesting.3D point clouds were acquired for 367 bushes from five genotype *** cloud data were preprocessed to obtain clean bush points for characterizing bush architecture,including bush morphology(height,width,and volume),crown size,and shape descriptors(path curveλand five shape indices).One-dimensional traits(height,width,and crown size)had high correlations(R^(2)=0.88–0.95)between proposed method and manual measurements,whereas bush volume showed relatively lower correlations(R^(2)=0.78–0.85).These correlations suggested that the present approach was accurate in measuring one-dimensional size traits and acceptable in estimating three-dimensional bush *** results demonstrated that the five genotype groups were statistically different in crown size and bush *** differences matched with human evaluation regarding optimal bush architecture for mechanical *** particular,a visualization tool could be generated using crown size and path curveλ,which showed great potential of determining bush architecture suitable for mechanical harvesting ***,the processing pipeline of 3D point cloud data presented in this study is an effective tool for blueberry breeding programs(in particular for mechanical harvesting)and farm management.

Generally, a suction control apparatus is used to examine compression properties of unsaturated clay. This is usually carried out with a pore water pressure of 0 under condition of applying pore air pressure, which is positive pore air pressure in a triaxial compression test. It is known as the Axis Translation Technique. However in this study, the suction control apparatus does not employ a method of controlling initial degree of saturation of specimen. The method for making specimen using micro wave is used to ensure a uniform distribution of water content of specimen （microwave oven method）. Consequently, both compression properties are similar to each other. Collapse tests were carried out using specimens under the microwave oven method and air dry state. As a result, it was found that the former does not result in collapse but the latter results in a significant amount of collapse. Such occurrence of collapse is dependent on the soil structure. Therefore, the equation of effective stress for unsaturated soil proposed Bishop should not neglect as an occurrence of collapse for unsaturated soils.

It is too difficult for a compacted specimen of unsaturated clay prepared and used in a laboratory test to have homogeneous water content and porosity. Although there have been many hydraulic and mechanical studies, there are few papers related to homogeneity of specimen. However, it is clear that homogeneity of specimen influences mechanical properties. In this paper, the use of micro-waves is proposed as method for making homogeneous specimens. The study results indicate that specimens made by micro-waves are more homogeneous than compacted specimens.

Structural features of the nucleotide sequences of virus and organelle genomes

The four nucleotides (bases), A, T (U), G and C in small genomes, virus DNA/RNA, organelle and plastid genomes were also arranged sophisticatedly in the structural features in a single-strand with 1) reverse-complement symmetry of base or base sequences, 2) bias of four bases, 3) multiple fractality of the distribution of each four bases depending on the distance in double logarithmic plot (power spectrum) of L (the distance of a base to the next base) vs. P (L) (the probability of the base-distribution at L), although their genomes were composed of low numbers of the four bases, and the base-symmetry was rather lower than the prokaryotic-and the eukaryotic cells. In the case of the genomic DNA composed of less than 10,000 nt, it was better than to be partitioned at 10 of the L-value, and the structural features for the biologically active genomic DNA were observed as the large genomes. As the results, the base sequences of the genomic DNA including the genomic-RNA might be universal in all genomes. In addition, the relationship between the structural features of the genome and the biological complexity was discussed.

G and C were sophisticatedly arranged in the structural features in a single-strand of genomic DNA, 1) reverse-complement symmetry of base or base sequences, 2) bias of four bases, 3) multiple fractality of the distribution of each four bases depending on the distance in double logarithmic plot (power spectrum) of L (the distance of a base to the next base) vs. P(L) (the probability of the base-distribution at L), regardless species, forms, genome-sizes and GC-contents. In small genomes such as viruses and plasmids, the multiple fractality might be occasionally hard to distinguish clearly with the power-low-tail region (multi-fractal dimension) because of the low base numbers. In this review article, the author showed that 1) the structural features for the biologically active genomic DNA were observed all living cells including the organelle- and the viralgenome, 2) the potentiality of a new analytical method of the genome structure based on the appearance frequency, Sequence Spectrum Method (SSM) could be analyzed DNA, RNA and protein on genome, 3) the structural features of genome might be related the biological complexity. These findings might be useful extremely to understand the living cells, and the entire genome as a “field” of biological information should need to analyze.
