A case of asymptomatic intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct without hepatolithiasis

A 65-year-old woman was found to have dilatation of the intrahepatic bile duct in the right anterior segment during a general health. Laboratory data were within normal ranges and no solid mass was detected in her abdominal computer tomography (CT) or nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) demonstrated an obstruction of the right bile duct. Intraoperative cholangiography showed stenosis of the intrahepatic bile duct in the anterior inferior segment (B5) and narrowness of the intrahepatic bile duct in the anterior superior segment (B8), so that we strongly suspected intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Histologically, surgically resected liver specimens, without tumor mass by macroscopic observation, showed intraductal papillary proliferation with fibrovascular cores and intraductal spreading of carcinoma in situ throughout a considerable area, especially in bile ductules around the peripheral small portal area. Furthermore, the immunohistochemical profile of the tumor (MUC5AC+/CK7+) was compatible with an intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPN-B). Consequently, this case was diagnosed as IPN-B with spreading CIS, stageⅠ(pT1, pN0, P0, H1, M0). We report a case of IPN-B with interesting histopathologicalfindings and emphasize that cholangiography is especially helpful for the diagnosis of bile duct dilatation due to infiltration of carcinoma cells.

Effect of rubrene:P3HT bilayer on photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells with electrodeposited ZnO nanorods

Improved photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells is demonstrated through the synergistic effect of electrodeposited ZnO nanorods and rubrene：P3HT bilayer as electron and hole-transporting layers,respectively. Highly crystalline ZnO nanorods were obtained by electrochemical deposition in a chloride medium. Additionally, rubrene interlayer was able to passivate or cover the grain boundaries of perovskite film effectively that led to reduced leakage current. A perovskite solar cell optimized with ZnO nanorods and rubrene：P3HT bilayer achieved a maximum efficiency of 4.9% showing reduced hysteresis behavior compared with the device having P3HT as the only hole-transporting layer. The application of longer nanorods led to better perovskite infiltration and shorter charge carrier path length. These results highlight the potential of electrodeposited ZnO nanorods and rubrene：P3HT bilayer as charge selective layers for efficient perovskite solar cells.

Dm-KDE： dynamical kernel density estimation by sequences of KDE estimators with fixed number of components over data streams

In many data stream mining applications, traditional density estimation methods such as kemel density estimation, reduced set density estimation can not be applied to the density estimation of data streams because of their high computational burden, processing time and intensive memory allocation requirement. In order to reduce the time and space complexity, a novel density estimation method Dm-KDE over data streams based on the proposed algorithm m-KDE which can be used to design a KDE estimator with the fixed number of kernel components for a dataset is proposed. In this method, Dm-KDE sequence entries are created by algorithm m-KDE instead of all kemels obtained from other density estimation methods. In order to further reduce the storage space, Dm-KDE sequence entries can be merged by calculating their KL divergences. Finally, the probability density functions over arbitrary time or entire time can be estimated through the obtained estimation model. In contrast to the state-of-the-art algorithm SOMKE, the distinctive advantage of the proposed algorithm Dm-KDE exists in that it can achieve the same accuracy with much less fixed number of kernel components such that it is suitable for the scenarios where higher on-line computation about the kernel density estimation over data streams is required. We compare Dm-KDE with SOMKE and M-kernel in terms of density estimation accuracy and running time for various stationary datasets. We also apply Dm-KDE to evolving data streams. Experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of the pro- posed method.

Efficacy of a novel auto-fluorescence imaging system with computer-assisted color analysis for assessment of colorectal lesions

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of computer-assisted color analysis of colorectal lesions using a novel auto-fluorescence imaging(AFI)system to distinguish neoplastic lesions from non-neoplastic lesions and to predict the depth of ***:From January 2013 to April 2013,consecutive patients with known polyps greater than 5 mm in size who were scheduled to undergo endoscopic treatment at The Jikei University Hospital were prospectively recruited for this *** lesions were evaluated using a novel AFI system,and color-tone sampling was performed in a region of interest determined from narrow band imaging or from chromoendoscopy findings without *** green/red(G/R)ratio for each lesion on the AFI images was calculated automatically using a computer-assisted color analysis system that permits real-time color analysis during endoscopic ***:A total of 88 patients with 163 lesions were enrolled in this *** were significant differences in the G/R ratios of hyperplastic polyps(non-neoplastic lesions),adenoma/intramucosal cancer/submucosal(SM)superficial cancer,and SM deep cancer(P0.89 was applied to determine non-neoplastic lesions,the sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value(PPV),negative predictive value(NPV),and accuracy were 83.9%,82.6%,53.1%,95.6%and 82.8%,*** neoplastic lesions,the mean G/R ratio was 0.834±0.080 in adenoma/intramucosal cancer/SM superficial cancer and 0.746±0.045 in SM deep *** G/R ratio of adenoma/intramucosal cancer/SM superficial cancer was significantly higher than that of SM deep cancer(P<0.01).When a G/R ratio cut-off value of<0.77 was applied to distinguish SM deep cancers,the sensitivity,specificity,PPV,NPV,and accuracy were80

Circulating Environmental Logistics Channel for Sustainable Society

This paper suggests the important role of trust as a governance mechanism for the circulating environmental logistics channel for reuse and recycle. Three types of the circulating logistics channels are discussed. The first is the recycle channel, where an actor (a firm) can govern total channel and its flow. In this channel, an actor bears the role of entrance and exit, and processes goods, resources, and waste. It may be called as the closed circulating logistics channel. The second is the recycle channel of kitchen garbage, which is governed by plural actors, such as firms, consumers, and governments, based on trust. This channel may be called as the open circulating logistics channel. The third is the recycle channel with intermediate traders and retailers. This channel may be called as the intermediate circulating logistics channel. It suggests to us that actors with autonomy and volunteerism can promote and make a successful circulating environmental logistic channel under the mutual trust and the cooperative role sharing.

Taphonomy and Sedimentological Significance of Oyster Shell Beds within Cretaceous Transgressive Sediments in Japan

Through taphonomical analyses of Crassostrea shell beds included in several Japanese Cretaceous strata, paleoecological and sedimentological significance of intertidal muddy and sandy bottom dwelling oysters are examined. The Upper Cretaceous Crassostrea shell beds show a variety of modes of occurrence, lithological changes and sedimentary structure, suggesting composite formative, paleoecological and sedimentary processes. Crassostrea seems to have adapted from muddy substratum during early Cretaceous to coarser sandier substratum often influenced by physical turbulence such as tidal currents and waves during the mid-Cretaceous time, associated with increasing in shell size and thickness, and colony dimension.

Staging systems for hepatocellular carcinoma: Current status and future perspectives

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is a major health concern worldwide and the third cause of cancer-related death. Despite advances in treatment as well as careful surveillance programs, the mortality rates in most countries are very high. In contrast to other cancers, the prognosis and treatment of HCC depend on the tumor burden in addition to patient's underlying liver disease and liver functional reserve. Moreover, thereis considerable geographic and institutional variation in both risk factors attributable to the underlying liver diseases and the management of HCC. Therefore, although many staging and/or scoring systems have been proposed, there is currently no globally accepted system for HCC due to the extreme heterogeneity of the disease. The aim of this review is to focus on currently available staging systems as well as those newly reported in the literatures since 2012. Moreover, we describe problems with currently available staging systems and attempts to modify and/or add variables to existing staging systems.

Representation of the Basic Laws of Thermodynamics in Quantum Mechanics

We propose a representation of the basic laws, namely the zeroth, first, second and third law, in quantum thermodynamics. The zeroth law is represented by some parameters () that specify respective quantum states. The parameters are the elements of thermodynamic state space. The introduction of such parameters is based on a probabilistic nature of quantum theory. A quantum analog of the first law can be established by utilizing these parameters. The notion of heat in quantum systems is clarified from the probabilistic point of view in quantum theory. The representation of the second law can be naturally described in terms of these parameters introduced for the respective quantum systems. In obtaining the representation of quantum thermodynamics, consistency between quantum theory and classical thermodynamics should have been preserved throughout our formulation of quantum thermodynamics. After establishing the representation of the second law, the third law is discussed briefly. The relationship between thermodynamic temperatures and the parameters in is also discussed.
