Efficacy of 1.2L polyethylene glycol plus ascorbic acid for bowel preparations

BACKGROUND A low-volume polyethylene glycol(PEG) solution that combines ascorbic acid with PEG-based electrolyte solution(PEG-ASC) is gaining mainstream acceptance for bowel preparation due to reduced volume and improved taste.Although several reports showed that bowel preparation with PEG-ASC volume lower than 2.0 L with laxative agents could be an alternative to traditional preparation regimen, the cleansing protocols have not been fully investigated.AIM To evaluate the cleansing efficacy of 1.2 L PEG-ASC solution comparing with 2.0 L PEG electrolyte(PEG-ELS) for bowel preparations.METHODS A randomized, single-blinded, open-label, single-center, non-inferiority study was conducted. In total, 312 Japanese adult patients(aged > 18 years) who underwent colonoscopy were enrolled. Patients were randomly allocated to bowel lavage with either 1.2 L of PEG-ASC solution with at least 0.6 L of an additional clear fluid(1.2 L PEG-ASC group) or 2.0 L of PEG-ELS(PEG-ELS group). Then, 48 mg of sennoside was administered at bedtime on the day before colonoscopy, and the designated drug solution was administered at the hospital on the day of colonoscopy. Bowel cleansing was evaluated using the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale(BBPS). The volume of fluid intake and required time for bowel preparation were evaluated. Furthermore, compliance, patient tolerance,and overall acceptability were evaluated using a patient questionnaire, which was assessed using a visual analog scale.RESULTS In total, 291 patients(1.2 L PEG-ASC group, 148; PEG-ELS group, 143) completed the study. There was no significant difference in successful cleansing, defined as a BBPS score ≥ 2 in each segment, between the two groups(1.2 L PEG-ASC group, 91.9%; PEG-ELS group, 90.2%; 95%CI:-0.03-0.09). The required time for bowel preparation was significantly shorter(164.95 min ± 68.95 min vs 202.16 min± 68.69 min, P < 0.001) and the total fluid intake volume was significantly lower(2.23 L ± 0.55 L vs 2.47 L ± 0.56 L, P < 0.001) in the 1.2 L PEG-ASC group than in the

Myofiber Permeability and Force Production of Rat Muscles Following Eccentric Contractions: The Repeated Bout Effect Depends on the Interval

Past eccentric contraction (ECC)-induced muscle injury reduces the severity of symptoms of subsequent muscle injury;this phenomenon is known as a repeated bout effect (RBE). It has been reported that increases in the duration of the interval between the first and second bouts are linked to weakening of the RBE. However, the histology following the attenuation of the RBE remains unclear. We examined the sustained effects of the second bout with regard to myofiber permeability and muscle force. Sixty-four male rats were randomly assigned to eight groups that varied in the number of exercise sessions and the duration of the interval between the first and second bouts: the non-ECC (Control);the single-injury (Post 1st bout);groups that were allowed to recover for 1, 2, and 4 weeks after a single injury (Pre 2nd bout_1w, Pre 2nd bout_2w, and Pre 2nd bout_4w);and groups that were subjected to second injuries 1, 2, and 4 weeks after the first (Post 2nd bout_1w, Post 2nd bout_2w, and Post 2nd bout_4w). The tibialis anterior was electrically stimulated in each ECC group. Twenty-four hours before muscle sampling, Evans blue dye (EBD) (a marker of myofiber damage) was administered. The maximal isometric contraction tension was measured immediately before sampling. The number of EBD-positive (+) fibers was determined via histological analysis. An RBE was revealed by functional examination at the 1- and 2-week and histological examination at the 1-, 2-, and 4-week time points (P < 0.05). In terms of myofiber permeability, prolongation of the interval before the second bout weakened this effect (P < 0.05). Experiments with 1-, 2-, and 4-week intervals indicated that prolongation of the interval before the second bout weakened the RBE with regard to myofiber permeability.

Magnetic field strength properties in bone marrow during pulsed electromagnetic stimulation

We clarified the characteristics of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) strength in marrow cavity with bone marrow in long bones based on actual measurements taken during pulsed magnetic stimulation (PMS). Measurements were made under 810 different conditions of stimulation intensity, distance, and position. Significant and strong linear correlations were observed between PEMF strength and stimulation intensity. PEMF strength in marrow cavity during PMS showed an exponential decay depending on coil-sensor distance, with a breaking point at approximately 30 mm. PEMF strength distributions in bone showed geometric differences between 3 types. These findings suggest that PEMF strength in bone depends on stimulation intensity, distance and horizontal position. Our actual measured data could be useful in determining stimulation programs and estimating the in vivo efficacy of PEMF in marrow cavity for research and clinical use.

The objective of the present study was to assess the relationship of response time and peak latency of P300 with a simple-reaction task. Seven male subjects who were experienced players in decision-making sports were included. Two main findings were noted. First, the P300 latencies of Fz and Pz were correlated with visuo-motor related time. Second, in terms of latencies of visual evoked potentials, the correlations were observed only between Oz-P2 latency and visuo-motor related time. These results suggest that the length of visuo-motor related time is related to the processing involved in the higher order brain site involving specific processing in the visual cortex.

Long gap peripheral nerve injuries usually reulting in life-changing problems for patients. Skeletal muscle derived-multipotent stem cells （Sk-MSCs） can differentiate into Schwann and perineurial/endoneurial cells, vascular relating pericytes, and endothelial and smooth muscle cells in the damaged peripheral nerve niche. Application of the Sk-MSCs in the bridging conduit for repairing long nerve gap injury resulted favorable axonal regeneration, which showing superior effects than gold standard therapy--healthy nerve autograft. This means that it does not need to sacrifice of healthy nerves or loss of related functions for repairing peripheral nerve injury.

Cerium oxide nanoparticles （CONPs）, widely used in catalytic applications owing to their robust redox reaction, are now being considered in therapeutic applications based on their enzyme mimetic properties such as catalase and super oxide dismutase （SOD） mimetic activities. In therapeutic applications, the emerging demand for CONPs with low cytotoxicity, high cost efficiency, and high enzyme mimetic capability necessitates the exploration of alternative synthesis and effective material design. This study presents a room temperature aqueous synthesis for low-cost production of shape-selective CONPs without potentially harmful organic substances, and additionally, investigates cell viability and catalase and SOD mimetic activities. This synthesis, at room temperature, produced CONPs with particular planes： {111}/{100} nanopolyhedra, {100} nano/submicron cubes, and {111}/{100} nanorods that grew in [110] longitudinal direction. Enzymatic activity assays indicated that nanopolyhedra with a high concentration of Ce4＋ ions promoted catalase mimetic activity, while nanocubes and nanorods with high Ce3＋ ion concentrations enhanced SOD mimetic activity. This is the first study indicating that shape and facet configuration design of CONPs, coupled with the retention of dominant, specific Ce valence states, potentiates enzyme mimetic activities. These findings may be utilized for CONP design aimed at enhancing enzyme mimetic activities in therapeutic applications.

Nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPEO)-degrading bacteria were isolated from activated sludge using an improved isolation method, and the corresponding degradation behaviours were investigated. An overview of a long-gap peripheral nerve therapy： A long- gap peripheral nerve transection injury is an irreparable injury to the living body, and mostly leads to permanent loss of re- lated motor and sensory functions. In such long gap injuries, nerve end-to-end suture is physically impossible. Therefore, bridging a long nerve-gap is critical to re-establish adequate mechanical support for separated nerve ends, and prevent the diffusion of neurotrophic and neurotropic factors secreted by transected stumps （Deumens et al., 2010）.

Regarding the social problem of food loss in Japan,about 10%-20%of agricultural products(e.***.vegetables and fruits)are seen as“non-standardized foods”or“surplus foods”by the Agricultural Cooperative Association.Those foods are then discarded.The tamaki Laboratory of the School of Business,Aoyama Gakuin University is promoting the“SDGs Food Loss Regeneration Project”through industry and academic collaboration—as a research study—to solve this social problem.Therefore,the purpose of this research is the following three subjects:(1)Indicate the design of VCM(value chain management).VCM corresponds to the planning,manufacturing,and sales meetings of“SDGs Moist Vegetable Cake”,and the roles of stakeholders engaged in each area of VCM.(2)Design various BOMs(bill of materials)corresponding to the VCM.Describe how to use BOM and the significance of using each BOM in cooperation.(3)In order to verify the effectiveness of the“SDGs Food Loss Regeneration Project”with“SDGs Moist Vegetable Cake”,conduct and analyze questionnaire surveys and consider the results.
