The chromosomal locations of two single-copy genes, Ser-1 and CI-13, in silkworm (Bombyx mori) were detected at the molecular cytogenetics level by fluorescence in situ hybridization in the study. The results showed that Ser-1 is located near the distal end of the 11th linkage group, relatively at the 12.5±1.4 position in pachytene; and that CI-13 has been mapped near the distal end of the 2nd linkage group, relatively at the 8.2±1.2 position in pachytene. Furthermore, their location model map-FISH map on silkworm chromosome was drawn. The FISH technique and its application to silkworm are also discussed in this paper.

For the conservation and restoration of river environment,a sediment replenishment technique, which conveys a part of the sediments excavated and/or dredged from reservoirs to the river below dams is developed and has been implemented tentatively in several *** placed as replenishment can be flushed out and transported downstream by floodwater or dam *** flushed sediments are expected to contribute to the control of degradation and the variation of the low-flow ***,this technique is in the development stage because there are many unknown ***,systematic investigations are necessary for practical management of the *** this study,the effects of the location of replenishment sediment on sediment flushing and on control of degradation were investigated by means of flume experiments.A two-dimensional numerical model was also developed to further investigate the effects of sediment augmentation on river *** numerical model treats bank erosion and sediment transport over fixed beds. The simulation results were verified against the experimental *** flushing process of replenishment sediment was investigated first,and then its effect as a countermeasure for river bed degradation was *** are summarized as follows:(1) Augmentation at upper riffles is effective for flushing of replenishment sediment and variation of low-flow channel.(2) Amelioration of degradation can be found in the cases of two types of *** amelioration effect of upper riffle placement was larger than that of lower riffle placement(3) Aggradation rate of the bed near the replenishment site in the fixed bed is large in the lower riffle placement compared with the upper riffle placement.(4) The numerical model was found to be generally successful as a predictive tool.

The purpose of the paper was to assess the frequency of secondary transmissions of primary pneumonic plague relative to the onset of fever.A simple backcalculation method was employed to estimate the frequency of secondary transmissions relative to disease-age.A likelihood-based procedure was taken using observed distributions of the serial interval(n = 177) and incubation period(n = 126).Furthermore,an extended model was developed to account for the survival probability of *** simple backcalculation suggested that 31. 0%(95%confidence intervals(CI):11.6,50.4) and 28.0%(95%CI:10.2,45.8) of the total number of secondary transmissions had occurred at second and third days of the disease,respectively,and more than four-fifths of the secondary transmission occurred before the end of third day of *** survivorship-adjusted frequency of secondary transmissions was obtained,demonstrating that the infectiousness in later stages of illness was not insignificant and indicates that the obtained frequencies were likely biased on underlying factors including isolation *** conclusion,the simple exercise suggests a need to implement countermeasures during pre-clinical stage or immediately after *** information is needed to elucidate the finer details of the disease-age specific infectiousness.

Large deformation simulations of geomaterials using moving particle semi-implicit method

Numerical simulation tools are required to describe large deformations of geomaterials for evaluating the risk of geo-disasters. This study focused on moving particle semi-implicit(MPS) method, which is a Lagrangian gridless particle method, and investigated its performance and stability to simulate large deformation of geomaterials. A calculation method was developed using geomaterials modeled as Bingham fluids to improve the original MPS method and enhance its stability. Two numerical tests showed that results from the improved MPS method was in good agreement with the theoretical ***, numerical simulations were calibrated by laboratory experiments. It showed that the simulation results matched well with the experimentally observed free-surface configurations for flowing sand. In addition, the model could generally predict the time-history of the impact force. The MPS method could be a useful tool to evaluate large deformation of geomaterials.

Brain hypothermia treatment （BHT） is an active therapy for severe brain injury. It makes the temperature of the brain track a given temperature input curve so as to reduce the risk of tissue damage. BHT requires a brain-temperature control system because of environmental disturbances and changes in the human body. The thermal models of the human body devised so far are usually of a very high order and are not suitable for controlling brain temperature. This paper presents a method of finding a reducedorder thermal model of the human body for use in BHT. It combines minimal realization and balanced realization. Unlike other methods, this method yields a reduced-order model that is based on system theory and that takes the frequency characteristics of human thermal sensation into account. It features high precision in the frequency band for BHT and is suitable for the control of brain temperature.

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is a potent neurotransmitter for feeding. Besides NPY, orexigenic neuropeptides such as agouti-related protein (AgRP), and anorexi- genic neuropeptides such as α-melatonin stimulating hormone (MSH) and cocaine-amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) are also involved in central feeding regulation. During fasting, NPY and AgRP gene expressions are up-regulated and POMC and CART gene ex- pressions are down-regulated in hypothalamus. Based on the network of peptidergic neurons, the former are involved in positive feeding regulation, and the latter are involved in negative feeding, which exert these feeding-regulated peptides especially in paraventricular nucleus (PVN). To clarify the compensatory mecha- nism of knock-out of NPY system on feeding, change in gene expressions of appetite-related neuropeptides and the feeding behavior was studied in NPY Y5-KO mice. Food intake was increased in Y5-KO mice. Fasting increased the amounts of food and water intake in the KO mice more profoundly. These data indicated the compensatory phenomenon of feeding behavior in Y5-KO mice. RT-PCR and ISH suggested that the compensation of feeding is due to change in gene expressions of AgRP, CART and POMC in hypothalamus. Thus, these fi ndings indicated that the compensatory mechanism involves change in POMC/CART gene expression in arcuate nucleus (ARC). The POMC/CART gene expression is important for central compensatory regulation in feeding behavior.

Learning a compact predictive model in an online setting has recently gained a great deal of *** combination of online learning with sparsity-inducing regularization enables faster learning with a smaller memory space than the previous learning *** optimization methods and learning algorithms have been developed on the basis of online learning with L1-regularization.L1-regularization tends to truncate some types of parameters,such as those that rarely occur or have a small range of values,unless they are emphasized in ***,the inclusion of a pre-processing step would make it very difficult to preserve the advantages of online *** propose a new regularization framework for sparse online *** focus on regularization terms,and we enhance the state-of-the-art regularization approach by integrating information on all previous subgradients of the loss function into a regularization *** resulting algorithms enable online learning to adjust the intensity of each feature’s truncations without pre-processing and eventually eliminate the bias of *** show theoretical properties of our framework,the computational complexity and upper bound of *** demonstrated that our algorithms outperformed previous methods in many classification tasks.

Kawasaki disease(KD)is a vasculitis of unknown etiology occurring predominantly in children under five years old[1].Coronary artery aneurysm,its most serious complica-tion,occurs in about 25%of untreated patients[2].High-dose intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG)2 g/kg is used to prevent coronary artery aneurysms[1,3,4],but about 20%of patients are nonresponsive and require a second dose for a total of 4 g/*** appropriate timing of live attenuated vaccine(LAV)administration in such cases is unclear.
