Clinical outcomes of patients with chronic hepatitis C after generic direct-acting antiviral treatments in Vietnam: A retrospective analysis

Objective:To evaluate the outcomes of generic direct-acting antiviral treatments for chronic hepatitis C in ***:The medical records of 522 patients(median 45 years;Female,25.3%)with chronic hepatitis C treated at a tertiary hospital in northern Vietnam in 2016 were retrospectively ***:Female patients were significantly older than male patients(median 52,IQR 41-59 vs.43 years,IQR:39-55;P<0.001).Among 522 patients,49.4%were infected with hepatitis C virus(HCV)genotype 6,followed by 1 a(19.0%),1 b(13.0%),and 3(5.9%).Coinfection with hepatitis B virus or human immunodeficiency virus was noted in 5.8%and 3.1%of patients,*** were treated with ledipasvir/sofosbuvir with or without ribavirin(70.9%),sofosbuvir/pegylated-interferon+ribavirin(13.2%),daclatasvir/sofosbuvir with or without ribavirin(12.5%),or sofosbuvir/ribavirin(3.4%),and 96.4%(n=503)completed the direct-acting antiviral *** patient discontinued treatment due to adverse event(s).A sustained virologic response 12 weeks after the end of the treatment(SVR12)was evaluated in 62.6%of *** sustained virologic response 12 weeks after the end of the treatment was 98.7%regardless of HCV genotypes or direct-acting antiviral *** severity of liver stiffness was significantly decreased from 10.2 to 6.3 kilopascals measured by transient elastography by the treatment(P<0.001).Among patients who completed the directacting antiviral treatment,17.7%returned for further follow-ups after ***:In Vietnam,the current generic direct-acting antiviral treatment for chronic hepatitis C was effective regardless of HCV genotypes and direct-acting antiviral regimens with the attenuation of liver *** is feasible to implement direct-acting antiviral treatment to cure chronic hepatitis C patients at any liver fibrosis stages in Vietnam.

Conversion between solid and beam element solutions of finite element method based on meta-modeling theory:development and application to a ramp tunnel structure

In this study, a new method for conversion of solid finite element solution to beam finite element solution is developed based on the meta-modeling theory which constructs a model consistent with continuum mechanics. The proposed method is rigorous and efficient compared to a typical conversion method which merely computes surface integration of solid element nodal stresses to obtain cross-sectional forces. The meta-modeling theory ensures the rigorousness of proposed method by defining a proper distance between beam element and solid element solutions in a function space of continuum mechanics. Results of numerical verification test that is conducted with a simple cantilever beam are used to find the proper distance function for this conversion. Time history analysis of the main tunnel structure of a real ramp tunnel is considered as a numerical example for the proposed conversion method. It is shown that cross-sectional forces are readily computed for solid element solution of the main tunnel structure when it is converted to a beam element solution using the proposed method. Further, envelopes of resultant forces which are of primary importance for the purpose of design, are developed for a given ground motion at the end.

Present status of pumped hydro storage operations to mitigate renewable energy fluctuations in Japan

This paper focuses on pumped hydro energy storage(PHES)plants’current operations after electricity system reforms and variable renewable energy(VRE)installations in *** plants have historically been developed to create electricity demand at night in order to operate base load power plants,such as nuclear power plants,in stable ***,many PHES plants are located midway between nuclear power plants and large demand ***,all nuclear power plants had to–at least temporarily–shut down after the Great East Japan Earthquake followed by a nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi in 2011,and renewable energy power plants have been deployed rapidly after the introduction of a feed-in-tariff(FIT)***,PHES plants are being used to mitigate fluctuations of VRE,especially in areas where renewable energy has been significantly *** daily highest capacity ratio of PHES plants in Kyushu area has recorded three times higher than it in the other areas where the past operating mode is still *** those operations on PHES plants are simply followed as a dispatch rule of the Organization for Crossregional Coordination of Transmission Operators(OCCTO),market-based operations have not been conducted enough *** market design shall be changed to harmonize VRE installation and PHES plants’operations are necessary to make the transition from the past operating mode of PHES plants across Japan.

Route designs and cost estimation for Japan-Russia and Japan-South Korea interconnections

This paper describes route designs and cost estimation for possible interconnections between Japan-Russia and between Japan-South Korea based on the Asia International Grid Connection Study Group 2^(nd) report. The Group has conducted a desktop study to design several cable routes as possible options. To optimize the route, the group studied a wide range of open data, regarding sea depth, fishery zones, geographic condition, available transmission capacity in connecting points inside Japan and so on. The result of desktop study shows that it is possible to keep sea depth for planned routes less than 300 m and length for most of designed routes is less than 600 km. Compare to existing undersea cables in Europe, proposed routes are not challenging from technical and geological *** study shows that investment cost range, including cost for grid enhancement inside Japan, is from around 200 bn JPY to 600 bn JPY, depending on the routes. Annualized cost range is from around 8 to 24 bn JPY(for 25-year operation), which is not so large compare to 1800 bn JPY-average annual investment in transmission infrastructure by 10 power utilities in the past 23 years.

Cost-profit analysis for Japan-Russia and Japan-South Korea interconnectors

This paper describes the results of cost-profit analysis related to interconnectors for Japan-Russia and JapanSouth Korea based on the Asia International Grid Connection Study Group 2^(nd) report. The Group has been established in 2016 for conducting research on international electric power networks in Asia from the viewpoint of technology, investment and legal framework. 2^(nd) report of the Group was published in June 2018, examining the profitability of an interconnectors between Japan and neighboring countries. The Group has calculated expected profit from operation of these *** Group has categorized interconnector business into four models from the survey of preceding and current business on grids and interconnectors. To clarify profitability, expected internal rate of return(IRR) was calculated for each business model based on estimated investment cost for each route. When interconnector is dedicated to specific power plants or suppliers and electricity can be sold at Japan wholesale market at 2016-2017 price level, positive IRR levels are expected in case that Free on Board(FOB) price lower than 7 JPY/kWh. When the investment will be covered by electricity tariff by final consumers, tariff for consumers will just slightly increase by approximately 0.1 JPY/kWh.

Measurement of Ion Cyclotron Emissions by Using High-Frequency Magnetic Probes in the LHD

Two pairs of high-frequency magnetic probes were installed in the Large Helical Device （LHD）. During the injection of a perpendicular neutral beam, ion cyclotron emissions （ICEs） with the fundamental frequency corresponding to the ion cyclotron frequency at the plasma edge were detected, which are the same type of ICE as measured with the former spare ion cyclotron range of frequencies （ICRF） heating antennas. This type of ICE was further investigated with regard to the phase and intensity of signals. Another type of ICE was found in the LHD, and these ICEs were synchronized with bursts of toroidicity induced Alfv^n eigenmodes （TAE） and the rise of intensity of lost ion flux. Therefore the source of these ICEs was thought to be the particles transferred from the core to the outer region of plasma by the TAE bursts. The frequency of ICEs induced by the TAE bursts increases linearly with the magnetic field strength, since the ion cyclotron frequency increases with the magnetic field strength.

Utilization of cross-regional interconnector and pumped hydro energy storage for further introduction of solar PV in Japan

The amount of solar PV installed capacity has steadily increased to 44.5 GW at the end of FY2017,since the introduction of the Feed in Tariff(FiT)to Japan in *** the other hand,since the first curtailment of solar PV was conducted on October 13th,2018 in the Kyushu area,the curtailment has been frequently executed including wind power after *** this study,cross-regional interconnector and pumped hydro energy storage(PHES)are focused on mitigating *** Japan,there are 9 electric power areas which connected each other by cross-regional *** to the historical operation,cross-regional interconnectors were secured as emergency flexible measures,but after the implicit auction was started from October 2018,it is used on merit *** a PHES in Japan,they have been built with nuclear power plants for several *** the output of nuclear power generation is constant,so the PHES is used to absorb the surplus at nighttime when the demand *** nuclear power plants in Japan have been shut down after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant following the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11th,*** are several nuclear power plants that have been restarted(9 reactors,as of August 2019).In this study,the amount of curtailment for solar PV in the Kyushu area is sent to the Chugoku area using the cross-regional interconnector(Kanmon line).Then,the PHES in the Chugoku area is pumping with low *** the spot price in the market is low when the curtailment is *** that,the PHES is generating at night with high price when the solar PV is not *** makes a profit by the deference for the cost of pumping and the revenue of generating by the *** a calculation result,for one week from May 2nd to 8th,2019,a profit becomes 152.2 million JPY(about 1.22 million EUR).For this purpose,it is necessary to raise the operation capacity of the cross-regional interconnecto

Synthesis, structural characterization and magnetic property of nanocomposite materials: Intercalation compounds of FePS_3 with 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine

Two new intercalation compounds Fe0.90PS3(phen)0.41 (1) (phen stands for 1,10-phenanthroline including a part of 1, 10-phenanthroline H+) and Fe0.83PS3(bipy)0.34 (2) (bipy stands for 2,2'-bipyridine H+ ) were synthesized by the reaction of the layered FePS, with 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine in the presence of anilinium chloride. They were characterized by elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy. The lattice spacing of the intercalate was expanded by 0.90 nm for Fe0.90PS3(phen)0.41 and 0.57 nm for Fe0.83PS3(bipy)0.34 withrespect to the pristine FePS3, indicating that the ring plane of the guests is perpendicular to the layer of the host. The UV-vis absorption spectra of the filtrate in preparation of the intercalates indicate that 1, 10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine also acts as a complexing agent to remove intralamellar Fe2+ ions into the solution during intercalation. The magnetic properties of 1 and 2 were studied.
