AIM To assess the usefulness of en bloc right hemicolectomy with pancreaticoduodenectomy(RHCPD) for locally advanced right-sided colon cancer(LARCC).METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the database of Saitama Medical Center, Jichi Medical University, between January 2009 and December 2016. During this time, 299 patients underwent radical right hemicolectomy for right-sided colon cancer. Among them, 5 underwent RHCPD for LARCC with tumor infiltration to adjacent organs. Preoperative computed tomography(CT) was routinely performed to evaluate local tumor infiltration into adjacent organs. During the operation, we evaluated the resectability and the amount of infiltration into the adjacent organs without dissecting the adherent organs from the cancer. When we confirmed that radical resection was feasible and could lead to R0 resection, we performed RHCPD. The clinical data were carefully reviewed, and the demographic variables, intraoperative data, and postoperative parameters were *** The median age of the 5 patients who underwent RHCPD for LARCC was 70 years. The tumors were located in the ascending colon(three patients) and transverse colon(two patients). Preoperative CT revealed infiltration of the tumor into the duodenum in all patients, the pancreas in four patients, the superior mesenteric vein(SMV) in two patients, and tumor thrombosis in the SMV in one patient. We performed RHCPD plus SMV resection in three patients. Major postoperative complications occurred in 3 patients(60%) as pancreatic fistula(grade B and grade C, according to International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula Definition) and delayed gastric empty. None of the patients died during their hospital stay. A histological examination confirmed malignant infiltration into the duodenum and/or pancreas in 4 patients(80%), and no patients showed any malignant infiltration into the SMV. Approximately half of all patients with colorectal cancer develop local recurrence or distant metastasis during the course of their illness. Recently, the molecular detection of metastatic cancer cells in various types of clinical samples, such as lymph nodes, bone marrow, peripheral blood, and peritoneal lavage fluid, has been investigated as a potential prognostic marker. The prognostic value of molecular tumor cell detection was independent of the type of detection method used. As assays become more sensitive and quantitative, a more thorough assessment of the cancer status of patients will be based on molecular markers alone. At present, it is difficult to conclude that one specific molecular marker is superior to others. Comparative analyses are recommended to assess the prognostic impact of molecular analyses in the same patient and determine the biomarkers that provide the most accurate prognostic information.

The family farmer’s knowledge about floodplains agroecosystems dynamics is part of agrobiodiversity conservation cognitive strategies. This is because the conservation in floodplains is conditioned by the ecophysiological adaptation to the period and flood gradient of the agricultural lands and by the transformations promoted in the environment by the waters pulse. The aim of this study was to understand the cognitive strategies expressed in the organized meaning of agroecosystems by local knowledge, related to the geomorphological dynamics of the Aramaçá Island, Amazonas, Brazil. In this research, the Case Study and Ethnoecology were adopted as approach, taking the systemic complexity paradigm as a theoretical framework. To do so, it was necessary to establish a dialogue with the local knowledge through multitemporal analyses of satellite images, historical series of hydrological data, as well as cartographic documents of the locality. The floodplains amphibian mark, as a living organism in permanent autopoietic process, seems to be imprinted in the family farmer’s knowledge. In order to live in the floodplains and of floodplains, it is necessary, above all, to develop a cognitive ability capable of understanding not only the rivers action on the lands, but also that of the lands on the rivers as well. Therefore, the geomorphological dynamics in the spaces managed by the family farmers impose on them, risks and uncertainties, demanding from them strategies that allow knowing and dealing with this complexity.

The family farm of the Upper Solim?es region has maintained the great genetic variability of the pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima Duchesne) by the in situ conservation of the landraces which are widely used as human food. The aim of this study was to estimate the current level of genetic variability of pumpkin landraces by means of estimation techniques of genetic parameters. Landraces areas samples were the family farming production units located in floodplains ecosystems of Benjamin Constant (Upper Solim?es River) and Iranduba (Lower Solim?es River), Amazonas. The split-plot designs were adopted at the treatments where the main plots were the five pumpkin landraces and one commercial cultivar. Each landrace was obtained six half sib families distributed in the sub-plots. Among the results of this study, it can be concluded that the genetic variation within the each landrace is greater than the genetic variation among the landraces. The qualitative morphological characteristics bring together half-sib families collected in geographically distant locations. It can be concluded that, through the estimation of genetic parameters, there is genetic variability among local cultivars collected in family farming of Benjamin Constant and Iranduba, Amazonas.

The Cucurbita maxima Duchesne is a vegetable crop plant cultivated and maintained by traditional Amazon communities, Brazil. The situation is worsened by the possibility of disappearance of local populations and genetic variability of this specie, taking into account the today changes promoted in family farming. The aim of this study was to estimate the current levels of genetic variability of local cultivars through the use of molecular markers (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism—AFLP). We chose to collect in two distinct micro regions in order to identify possible influences of geographic isolation and different levels of market requirements in the conservation of the genetic variability of the C. maxima. For the molecular analysis, bulk samples of fresh leaves of 15 plants/half-sibling family were collected in paper bags. There were 34 samples from the half-sib families. The analysis of the results half-sib obtained by methods of estimation of genetic variation by molecular markers shows that the forms of cultivation and management adopted by family farmers maintain the identities of the local/landraces (native cultivars) and, at the same time, the levels of diversity for the assurance of adaptability macro-environmental.

BACKGROUND Tumor size impacts the technical difficulty and histological curability of colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD);however,the preoperative evaluation of tumor size is often different from histological *** influential factors on failure to obtain an accurate tumor size evaluation could help prepare optimal conditions for safer and more reliable *** This was a retrospective study conducted at a single institution.A total of 377 lesions removed by colorectal ESD at our hospital between April 2018 and March 2022 were *** first assessed the difference in size with an absolute per-centage of the scaling ***,we compared the clinicopatho-logical characteristics of the correct scaling group(>-33%and33%),which was further subdivided into the underscaling group(-33%or less of the discrepancy)and overscaling group(33%or more of the discrepancy),*** secondary outcome measures,parameters on size estimation were compared between the underscaling and correct scaling groups,as well as between the overscaling and correct scaling ***,multivariate analysis was performed in terms of the following relevant parameters on size estimation:Pathological size,location,and possible influential factors(P<0.1)in the univariate *** The mean of absolute percentage in the scaling discordance was 21%,and 91 lesions were considered to be incorrectly estimated in *** incorrect scaling was significantly remarkable in larger lesions(40 mm vs 28 mm;P<0.001)and less experience(P<0.001),and these two factors were influential on the underscaling(75 lesions;P<0.001).Conversely,compared with the correct scaling group,16 lesions in the overscaling group were significantly small(20 mm vs 28 mm;P<0.001),and the small lesion size was influential on the overscaling(P=0.002).CONCLUSION Lesions indicated for colorectal ESD tended to be underestimate

The adsorption of protein molecules to oil/water(O/W)interface is of critical importance for the product design in a wide range of technologies and industries such as biotechnology,food industry and pharmaceutical *** this work,with ovalbumin(OVA)as the model protein,the adsorption conformations at the O/W interface and the adsorption stability have been systematically studied via multiple simulation methods,including all-atom molecular dynamic(AAMD)simulations,coarse-grained molecular dynamic(CGMD)simulations and enhanced sampling *** computational results of AAMD and CGMD show that the hydrophobic tail of OVA tends to be folded under long time relaxation in aqueous phase,and multiple adsorption conformations can exist at the interface due to heterogeneous interactions raising from oil and water *** further study the adsorption sites of the protein,the adsorption kinetics of OVA at the O/W interface is simulated using metadynamics method combined with CGMD simulations,and the result suggests the existence of multiple adsorption conformations of OVA at interface with the head-on conformation as the most stable *** all,this work focuses on the adsorption behaviors of OVA at squalene/water interface,and provides a theoretical basis for further functionalization of the proteins in emulsion-based products and engineering.
