Irsogladine maleate and rabeprazole in non-erosive reflux disease: A double-blind, placebo-controlled study

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of adding irsogladine maleate(IM) to proton-pump inhibitor(PPI) therapy in non-erosive reflux disease(NERD) ***:One hundred patients with NERD were recruited and randomized to receive rabeprazole plus IM(group I) or rabeprazole plus placebo(group P).The efficacy of the treatment was assessed using the Frequency Scale for the Symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease(FSSG) and the short form(SF)-36 quality of life questionnaires after four weeks of *** also assessed whether patients with NERD with minimal changes(grade M) had different responses to the therapies compared with patients who did not have minimal changes(grade N).RESULTS:Group I and group P showed significant improvements in their FSSG scores after the treatment(from 17.9 ± 7.9 to 9.0 ± 7.6, and from 17.7 ± 7.3 to 11.2 ± 7.9, respectively, P = 0.0001), but there was no statistically significant difference between the FSSG scores in group I and those in group *** analysis showed that significant improvements in the FSSG scores occurred in the patients in group I who had NERD grade N(modified Los Angeles classification)(7.8 ± 7.4 vs 12.5 ± 9.8, P = 0.041).The SF-36 scores for patients with NERD grade N who had received IM and rabeprazole were significantly improved in relation to their vitality and mental health ***:The addition of IM to rabeprazole significantly improves gastroesophageal reflux diseasesymptoms and the quality of the lives of patients with NERD grade N.

Investigation of the Association of TLR2 and TLR4 Polymorphisms with Susceptibility to <i>Helicobacter pylori</i>-Related Gastrointestinal Diseases

Background and Aim: Toll-like receptor (TLR) 2 and TLR4 are cell surface signaling receptors that are involved in the recognition of and host response to Helicobacter pylori. Our aim was to investigate the association between TLR gene polymorphisms and susceptibility of Japanese subjects to 4 H. pylori-related gastrointestinal diseases. Methodology: A total of 100 patients with histologically diagnosed gastric cancer, 105 patients with gastric ulcer, 102 with atrophic gastritis, 72 with duodenal ulcer and 428 healthy controls were recruited. A TaqMan assay was used to genotype 7 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TLR2 and 6 SNPs in TLR4. Results: There was a tendency for TLR4 rs10759932 TC/CC genotypes to be associated with a decreased risk of gastric cancer (p = 0.059);however, this did not reach statistical significance. No significant associations were found between polymorphisms in TLR2 or TLR4 and the risks for gastric cancer, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, or atrophic gastritis. Conclusion: The 13 SNPs inTLR2 and TLR4 examined in this study may not be linked with the development of H. pylori-related gastrointestinal diseases. Further studies with larger numbers of subjects are necessary to verify the present findings.

The Phalaborwa carbonatite Complex,situated in the northeastern part of South Africa,is characterized by copper and zirconium mineralization,and is composed principally of pyroxenites,phoscorite and carbonatite (banded and transgressive).The complex is transected by mafic dykes,and is geographically associated with a satellite syenite and minor granite *** and baddeleyite U-Pb isotopic age determinations using CAMECA 1280 secondary ion mass spectrometry have shown that the outer pegmatitic pyroxenite at the Loolekop pipe was emplaced at 2060±4 Ma,and the main phoscorite at 2062±2 *** ages are identical to those of 2060±2 and 2060±1 Ma for the banded and transgressive carbonatites,*** satellite syenite,which forms plug-like bodies outside of the border of the main complex,and the later mafic dyke have "similar" emplacement ages of 2068±17 and 2062±53 Ma,indicating that these intrusions were apparently near-synchronously *** contrast to other carbonatites,the Phalaborwa Complex is characterized by high initial Sr and low initial Nd and Hf isotopic *** situ isotopic analyses of apatite, calcite,zircon and baddeleyite indicate that the primary magma was derived from an enriched mantle. As the complex was emplaced slightly earlier at～2060 Ma than the nearby mafic phase of the Bushveld Complex (-2055 Ma),it is proposed that the Phalaborwa carbonatite magmatism was triggered by the same mantle plume activity,which partially melted the overlying lithospheric *** contribution also highlights that isotopic studies used to constrain the genesis of ancient igneous complexes should concentrate on minerals with low parent/daughter elemental ratios,such as apatite and calcite for Sr isotopes,and zircon and baddeleyite for Hf isotopes.
