People with visual impairments(PwVI)represent a heterogeneous social group who often experience significant disabling barriers in exercising their rights throughout their life *** dimensions of vulnerability of PwVI to disasters and climate change is an important issue to reduce the culture of neglected *** date,few studies have analyzed visual impairment and disaster risk reduction(DRR)in the countries of Latin America and the *** exploratory qualitative research project analyzed how to include PwVI in the DRR policies of *** research question is:how can we include PwVI in the discussion of DRR and climate change?The response to this question is part of a joint effort that involved a university,a hazard monitoring agency,and three institutions that work with *** three main results of the project are:(1)a mapping method to identify the exposure of PwVI to landslides and floods,and to create tactile risk maps tailored to them;(2)incorporating the voices of PwVI regarding their vulnerabilities and capacities with respect to disasters and climate change,achieved through shared interaction during 15 face to face interviews and one workshop attended by 100 people;and(3)an initiative of inclusive education to reduce some of the disabling barriers that intensify vulnerability.

Synthesis of Nitrogen-doped Titania by Solvothermal Reactions in Alcohols

Nitrogen-doped titania nanoparticles were obtained by the homogeneous precipitation in hexamethylenetetraminetitanium trichloride-alcohol aqueous solutions at 90 ℃ followed by heating at 190 ℃. Anatase, rutile and brookite were obtained, where the crystallite size, specific surface area and color greatly changed as 5～50 nm, 20～200 m2/g and light gray to yellow, depending on the solvent and pH. The products after calcination were yellow, indicating doping with nitrogen ion. All colored titania showed photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation for the oxidative decomposition of nitrogen monoxide in air. Especially, the nanoparticles of anatase type nitrogen-doped titania obtained using methanol aqueous solution showed excellent photocatalytic activity.

BACKGROUND Goblet cell carcinoid(GCC)of the appendix is a rare tumor characterized by neuroendocrine and adenocarcinoma *** preoperative diagnosis is very difficult,with most patients complaining mainly of abdominal *** tomography shows swelling of the appendix,so diagnosis is usually made incidentally after appendectomy based on a preoperative diagnosis of *** if a patient undergoes preoperative colonoscopy,accurate endoscopic diagnosis is very difficult because GCC shows a submucosal growth pattern with invasion of the appendiceal *** SUMMARY Between 2017 and 2022,6 patients with GCC were treated in our *** presenting complaint for 5 of these 6 patients was abdominal *** 5 patients underwent appendectomy,including 4 for a preoperative diagnosis of appendicitis and the other for diagnosis and treatment of an appendiceal *** sixth patient presented with vomiting and underwent ileocecal resection for GCC diagnosed from preoperative *** 2 patients with GCC underwent colonoscopy,no neoplastic changes were *** of the six patients showed lymph node metastasis on pathological *** of the last followup(median:15 mo),all cases remained alive without *** As preoperative diagnosis of GCC is difficult,this possibility must be considered during surgical treatments for presumptive appendicitis.

The characteristics of the catchment discharge vary with land use. The characteristics of the long-term discharge of a terraced paddy field catchment were studied. Two kind of tank models for land use were proposed and used to simulate the discharge of the catchment: one is a forest type model used as the upper part of the catchment; the other is a paddy field type model used as the lower part of the catchment. The results of the model simulation were analyzed and compared with that of a forest catchment.

In recent years,the Westernization of dietary habits and increasingly sedentary lifestyle have contributed to a marked increase in the number of type 2 diabetes *** behavior may play a significant role in the development and aggravation of type 2 *** results of various follow-up studies have demonstrated that proper diet combined with physical exer-cise is useful in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.A nationwide survey regarding exercise therapy for diabetes patients in Japan revealed that relatively few physicians provide patients with exercise guidance because of time constraints,that the physicians do not receive additional consultation fee,and that there is a lack of specialized physical exercise *** exercise promotes the utilization of glucose and free fatty acids in the muscles,and thus lowers blood glucose(BG)*** restriction and physical exercise are effective in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes by improving the in vivo sensitivity to *** adults with diabetes should engage in 150 min or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity aerobic activity per week,spread out over at least 3 days/week,with no more than two consecutive days without ***-intensity resistance training such as half squat and calf raise is recommended for elderly individuals who have decreased muscle strength and mass(sarcopenia).Prolonged sitting should be interrupted every 30 min for BG benefits,particularly in adults with type 2 *** with type 2 diabetes are also encouraged to increase their total daily unstructured physical activity(daily movement).

Oxygen-evolving complex （OEC） protein is the original name for membrane-peripheral subunits of photosystem （PS） II. Recently, multiple isoforms and homologs for OEC proteins have been iden- tified in the chloroplast thylakoid lumen, indicating that functional diversification has occurred in the OEC family. Gene expression profiles suggest that the Arabidopsis OEC proteins are roughly categorized into three groups： the authentic OEC group, the stressresponsive group, and the group including proteins related to the chloroplast NAD（P）H dehydrogenase （NDH） complex involved in cyclic electron transport around PSI. Based on the above gene expression profiles, molecular functions of the OEC family proteins are discussed together with our current knowledge about their functions.

Frequency dependence of electron temperature in hollow cathode-type discharge as measured by several different floating probe methods

We measured electron temperatures through a hollow cathode-type discharge tube using several different floating probe methods. This method detected a shift in the floating potential when an AC voltage was applied to a probe through an intermediary blocking capacitor. The shift in the floating potential is described as a function of the electron temperature and the applied AC voltage. In this study, the effects of the frequency and waveform on the electron temperatures were systematically investigated. The electron temperature measured when using the floating probe method with applied sinusoidal and triangular voltages was lower than that measured with an applied rectangular *** value in the high frequency range was close to that of the tail electron temperature.

Magnesium alloys are light weight and exhibit good recyclability but suffer from low hardness and wear *** this study,the hardness and wear resistance of AZ31 magnesium alloy were improved by depositing diamond-like carbon(DLC)films as hard protective coatings using ion-beam-enhanced deposition with various CH4/H2 ratio,gas flow rates and accelerating *** supporting effect of the magnesium alloy was enhanced by the production of a graded interfacial layer which is composed of film atoms and substrate *** composition and mechanical properties of the DLC coatings were characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Raman spectroscopy,Rockwell test and *** tribological properties of the coating were also investigated using a frictional surface microscope with an in situ observation system and friction force *** DLC films were characterized by a lower intensity ratio of the D-peak to G-peak(ID/IG),higher hardness,and improved tribological properties when deposited at a lower accelerating voltage(6 kV).At the CH4/H2 ratio of 1:99 and 6 sccm/6 kV,minimum ID/IG values of 0.62,relatively low friction force value of 0.12 N,and a maximum hardness of 4056HV were attained *** addition,the DLC film exhibited improved wear resistance and a shallower wear track at this condition.

Background Patients undergoing intensive care are exposed to risk factors for hearing *** study assessed the worse changes in pure tone average(PTA)thresholds after intensive care and identified the factors associated with worse hearing *** We conducted a single-centre retrospective study,and included adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU)of Kurashiki Central Hospital between January 2014 and September 2019,who had regular pure tone audiometry performed before and after ICU *** between changes in PTA threshold and patient characteristics,were *** included ears were classified as those with worse hearing(>10 dB increase in the PTA threshold)and those without worse hearing,and the baseline characteristics were *** During the study period,125 ears of 71 patients(male:female ratio,35:36;mean age,72.5±12.3 years)met the eligibility ***,sex,and the use of furosemide were not correlated with changes in PTA *** analysis showed that ears with worse hearing were associated with a lower serum platelet count than ears without worse hearing(153±85×10^(9)/L vs.206±85×10^(9)/L,respectively;P=0.010),and the rate of planned ICU admission(elective surgery)was higher in the worse hearing group(57.1% vs.28.8%,respectively;p=0.011).Conclusions Age,sex,and the use of furosemide did not have adversely affect hearing *** serum platelet count and planned admission appear to be risk factors for worse hearing.
