The Degree of Association between Concepts Focusing on the Viewpoint

For a computer to perform intelligent information processing requires functions that can extract concepts from words, as humans do, and then associate those concepts with related concepts. In order to implement this association function, it is necessary to quantify the degree of association between two concepts. In the present paper, we propose a method for quantifying degree of association focusing on the viewpoint that uses a concept base (a knowledge base that expresses concepts as a collection of pairs, each pair consisting of an attribute word used to describe the concept and a weighting that expresses the word"s importance). Here, "Viewpoint" is the perspective from which a concept is viewed; for example, consider the degree of association between "airplane" and "automobile", and the degree of association between "airplane" and "bird". From the viewpoint of "vehicle", "airplane" and "automobile" are highly related, while from the viewpoint of "flight", "airplane" and "bird" are highly related. We present herein a comparison of two methods for calculating degree of association focusing on the viewpoint, and demonstrate that the method involving modulation of attribute weightings based on viewpoint results in degree of association calculations that are closer to human senses.

Recently, demand has arisen for robots that can converse naturally with human beings. To accomplish this, such robots should to be able to offer appropriate topics to the person engaging them in conversation. Thus, it would be useful if such robots had the ability to collect news of interest to that person, which could then be used to help conversations proceed more smoothly. This paper proposes a method of extracting Web search keywords of interest by gender, age and day of the week. In this study, the authors compiled Web search engine keywords based on rank using the Biglobe Search Shunkan Ranking system. However, such rankings cannot be used independently because the relevant words for a particular day will not be known until that day is over. Accordingly, their method uses Web search rankings compiled for the day prior to day in question to select keywords for use. Because of this, the method cannot determine keywords that appear on the actual day of the conversation. However, it can extract keywords that appear repeatedly in identifiable patterns, as well as topics of general interest to a certain age and gender. In their experiments, the authors experienced particularly good results by focusing on three concepts: keyword consolidation, forgetting factor and short-term and long-term memory.

XIAP缺陷综合征的诊断和治疗进展

XIAP缺陷综合征（X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis deficiency，XIAP deficiency）是一种罕见的X连锁原发性免疫缺陷疾病。该病首先于2006年由Rigaud等在具有X连锁淋巴细胞增生异常综合征（X-linked lymphoproliferative disease，XLP）临床特征，但却未见SAP基因突变的一组患者中发现。故该病也被称为XLP-2型。XIAP缺陷综合征的临床表现多样，目前尚缺乏较明确的临床诊断依据，主要依据致病基因BIRC4突变分析和其编码的XIAP蛋白筛查进行诊断。

The koshiwari(Sumo Squat)is a traditional exercise used for basic training for sumo wrestling,the national sport of *** study compares and analyzes the kinetics and kinematics of the koshiwari and squat with wide-stance(WSQ)to provide insight related to the mechanical features of the *** three-dimensional automatic analysis instruments were used to measure movements of 11 men during exercises.A force platform was used to measure floor *** movements were analyzed:koshiwari and *** koshiwari and WSQ were compared as analytical objectives,using paired t-tests corresponding to correction joint angles,angular impulse,and joint torques with the level of significance set under 5%.Koshiwari was found to involve markedly greater excursions of abduction(maximum and minimum angle,correction angle to 20%-60%)and external rotation(maximum and minimum angle)at the hip compared with the WSQ,as well as markedly less hip flexion(maximum angle,correction angle 10%-90%)and torso forward tilt(maximum angle,correction angle 30%-100%).Koshiwari also involved greater extension-flexion axis,abduction-adduction axis,external rotation-internal rotation axis angular impulse and flexion(10%-100%),adduction(40%-60%),and external rotation(20%)torques at the hip than WSQ *** suggest that hip external rotation torque is attributable to hip external rotator muscle *** activity can apparently reduce the risk of ACL(Anterior cruciate ligament)injuries and patellofemoral pain syndrome and improve athletic performance.

Efficacy of Long-Term Treatment with Low-Dose Thalidomide for Patients with Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma

Introduction: We report the results of a prospective study of long-tern treatment with single-agent thalidomide in patients who had responded in a preceding trial of the use of thalidomide for relapsed/refractory myeloma. Patients and Methods: Nineteen patients were enrolled: 11 patients (57.9%) treated at a dosage of 100 mg/day;2 patients (10.5%) at a dosage of 200 mg/day;2 patients (10.5%) at a dosage of 300 mg/day;and 4 patients (21.1%) at a dosage of 400 mg/day. The median follow-up from the start of the preceding study was 3.0 years. At the time of entry to this study, 5 patients (26.3%) had partial response (PR), another 5 patients (26.3%) had a minimal response (MR), and the remaining 9 patients (47.4%) had shown no change (NC). Results: The cumulative MR rate was 78.9% (at the 32nd week) and the cumulative PR rate was 47.4% (at the 112th week). The median progression-free survival was 104 weeks and the median time to next treatment was 144 weeks. No patients experienced grade 4 or greater hematologic toxicity or grade 3 or greater non-hematologic toxicity. Conclusion: Long-term thalidomide maintenance therapy induced an increase in response rate, suppressed the progression to active myeloma without severe adverse events, and contributed to long survival with good activities of daily living.
