Application of cold drawn lamellar microstructure for developing ultra-high strength wires

Composite materials having lamellar structure are known to have a good combination of high strength and ductility. They are widely used in the fields of automobiles, civil engineering and construction, machines and many other industries. An application of lamellar microstructure for developing ultra-high strength steel wires was studied and discussed. Based on the experimental results, the relationships between the strength increase and microstructure development during the cold wire drawing were studied to reveal the strengthening mechanism. As cold drawing proceeds, the wire strength extremely increases, the microstructure changes from large single crystal lamellar structure to very fine polycrystalline lamellar one which has nano-sized grains, high dislocation density and amorphous regions. From the results obtained, it is concluded that heavy cold drawing technique is an effective method for lamellar composite to get high strength wires. Furthermore, formation process of the best microstructure for producing the ultra-high strength wires was also discussed.

Magnetic dipole forbidden （M1） transition was studied in large helical device （LHD） and F-, Si- and Ti-like M1 transitions are successfully observed for highly ionized Ar, Kr, Mo and Xe ions. The wavelengths measured in visible range for the heavy elements, which are carefully determined with extremely small uncertainties of 0.02 - 0.05 A as a standard wavelength of usual electric dipole （El） plasma emissions, are compared with theoretical predictions. The result shows a good agreement with recent Hatree-Fock calculation including semi-empirical adjustment. The M1 intensity for the F-like ions is examined by analyzing the intensity ratio of M1 to El. Density dependence of the ratio is experimentally verified by comparing with collisional- radiative model calculation on level population. The M1/E1 line ratio for the F-like ions is applied to the α （He^2＋） particle diagnostics in ITER, in which a steady-state operation of burning plasmas based on D-T fusion reaction is expected with α particle heating. Unfortunately, the present estimation suggests a negative result for the α particle measurement because the ratio is largely enhanced by the collisional excitation with bulk ions due to high ion temperature of ITER of 10 keV as assumed and the resultant effect of the collisional excitation with α particles becomes less. Meanwhile, the M1 transition, in particular, Ti-like WLIII （W^52＋） transition （3627 A） emitted in visible range, is very useful for diagnostics of the impurity behavior and the core plasma parameters in ITER.

c-axis-oriented SmBa2Cu3O7（SmBCO） films have been deposited on（100）- LaA1O3（LAO）substrate by metal organic chemical vapor deposition（MOCVD） *** effects of deposition temperature（T（dep）） and total pressure（P（tot）） on the orientation and microstructure of SmBCO films were *** orientation of SmBCO films transformed from α-axis to c-axis with increasing of T（dep） from 900 to 1 100℃.At T（dep）=1 050℃,SmBCO films had c-axis orientation and tetragon *** P（tot）^（dep）=400-800 Pa and T（dep）=1 050 ℃,totally c-axis-oriented SmBCO films were *** R（dep） of SmBCO films increased firstly and then decreased with increasing P（tot）.The surface of SmBCO films exhibited tetragon morphology at 1 050 ℃ and400 *** thickness of SmBCO film deposited was 1.2μm at P（tot）= 600 Pa,and the corresponding R（dep）was 7.2 μm·h^（-1）.

The developmental rate under low temperatures and cold tolerance were investigated in embryos of the blowfly Lucilia sericata. The larvae of this species are now widely used in maggot debridement therapy. Embryonic development was dependent on temperature, with a lower developmental threshold of 9.0℃. The duration of the egg stage at a rearing temperature of 25℃was 14 h, and a low temperature of 12.5℃ successfully prolonged this period to 66 h. Embryonic stages differed markedly in their cold tolerance; young embryos were less tolerant to cold than old ones. Late embryonic stages are suitable for cold storage at 5℃ and the storage for 72 h did not decrease the hatching rate by more than 50%. In the mass-rearing process required for maggot debridement therapy, either of these two simple protocols would be beneficial.

A space-resolved EUV spectrometer for measuring the one-dimensional distribution of impurity line emissions in Large Helical Device （LHD） has been upgraded to measure two- dimensional distributions of impurity line emissions with an extension of working wavelength range to 30-650% The two-dimensional measurement is performed by scanning the observation chord horizontally. A rectangular plasma region of 520 × 700 mm2 in vertical and horizontal sizes can be observed during a single horizontal scan. The horizontal scan requires a time duration of 5 s at least. The spatial resolution is 10 mm in the vertical direction when a spatial-resolution slit of 0.2 mm in width is adopted. Although a spatial resolution in the toroidal direction is 75 mm, it is a function of CCD exposure time and horizontal scanning speed. Two-dimensional distribution of EUV line emissions from several impurities has been successfully observed for the first time from steady discharges in LHD. In this paper two-dimensional distributions of He II （303.78A）, C V （40.27A）, C VI （33.73A） and Fe XX （132.85A） located at different radial positions are presented with simple analysis on the magnetic field structure of LHD.

Catalytic Decomposition of Nitric Oxide by LaCoO3 Nano-particles Prepared by Rotary CVD

Catalytic direct decomposition of NO by perovskite-type catalysts has attracted much attention for the various possible components and the unique structure. LaCoO_3 nanoparticles were precipitated on a-Al_2O_3 micro powders by rotary chemical vapor deposition（rotary CVD） and its catalytic performance for the decomposition of NO was investigated. LaCoO_3 nano-particles with 100 nm in average diameter and 1.5% in mass were uniformly dispersed on a-Al_2O_3 powder. The conversion of NO increased with increasing temperature from 400 to 950 ℃, and reached 28.7% at 950 ℃. The gas velocity of transformed NO on LaCoO_3 nano-particles catalyst per mass unit was 7.7 mL/（g min）, showing a good catalytic activity over the calculated results of pure catalysts. After five times of aging performance experiments, the NO conversion kept the same value, showing a good aging performance and thermal stability.
