Mexican beech[Fagus grandifolia ***(Martinez)***]is a subspecies endemic to the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains and considered endangered due to the low density of its populations and high degree of habitat fragmentation and environmental *** its morphological and genetic variation is associated with its ability to adapt to changes in environmental conditions,the objective of this study was to determine whether phenotypic and genotypic variation exist,and it relationships with population reduction *** four beech populations in the states of Hidalgo and Veracruz,we analyzed 11 morphological variables for leaves and 6 micros atellite *** morphological variables that to discriminate between populations were related to the size of the leaf,but a robust differentiation pattern was not found,given that independent groups of leaves were *** populations located closest to each other,had greater genetic variation and less genetic distance;populations in the extreme north and south had the lowest genetic *** differentiation among populations was associated with reduction in population *** the 3 localities in Hidalgo,recent bottlenecks were identified,and in Veracruz,an old bottleneck was *** in leaf morphology and genetic structure of Mexican beech populations could be the result of a combination of various geographical,climate and ecological factors.

The combined effects of pH and temperature on red pigment production and fungal morphology were evaluated in a submerged culture of Penicillium purpurogenum GH2, using Czapek-Dox media with D-xylose as a carbon source. An experimental design with a factorial fix was used: three pH values (5, 7, and 9) and two temperature levels (24 and 34 °C) were evaluated. The highest production of red pigment (2.46 g/L) was reached with a pH value of 5 and a temperature of 24 °C. Biomass and red pigment production were not directly associated. This study demon- strates that P. purpurogenum GH2 produces a pigment of potential interest to the food industry. It also shows the feasibility of producing and obtaining natural water-soluble pigments for potential use in food industries. A strong combined effect (p<0.05) of pH and temperature was associated with maximal red pigment production (2.46 g/L).

The simultaneous study of demography and behavior might provide a more comprehensive understanding about animal responses to anthropogenic *** White-winged Dove(Zenaida asiatica)is a frequent dweller of urban and agricultural habitats in North America,Central America,and the ***,research on the species is heavily biased to the *** analyzed the response of the species to human disturbances during winter across an urban-agricultural landscape in northwestern Mexico through a demographic and behavioral *** modeled the effect of disturbance types(pedestrians,cars,pavement and building cover)on the density of the ***,we investigated if surveillance behavior varied across the landscape by estimating and comparing perching proportion among land uses(urban grey areas,urban green areas,cropfields,shrublands).We did not detect the species within cropfields,possibly because food resources were not available for the dove during winter in this land *** cover limited species’density,as it might reduce the surface of the preferred feeding substrates of the *** and building cover increased the density of the species,as they might provide food and shelter for the dove,*** behavior peaked in urban grey areas,whereas it dropped in urban green *** on threat levels,threat type,and protective cover among land uses might in-fluence such behavioral *** approach contributes to the knowledge of the species and demonstrates that both demographic and behavioral cues provide complementary evidence for analyzing the impact of human disturbances on animals.

Objecive To observe the eventual thermic effects of stimulaing Tàixī (太溪 KI 3) by telethermography. Methods Nine individuals of both sexes, chosen randomly, paricipated in this study. The temperature of the room where the experiment was carried out was not above 21 ℃. At the start of the experiment the volunteer stayed for exactly ten minutes in the room for acclimaizaion, then the first thermographic image was recorded for standardizaion purposes. Following this, an acupuncture needle was inserted at KI 3 only in the right leg, whose depth was limited to obtain Deqi, only manual stimulation for 15 min permanence in the site. Ater this period, new images were recorded. Results Significant reduction of all the right leg temperatures, by about 1.1 ℃ in all the volunteers that received the acupuncture at the Kl 3 was noted, with a coefficient variaion of P0.05. Conclusion The results of this study demonstrate that manual simulaion of the Kl 3 influences significantly peripheral vascular circulation, by means of sympathetic stimulaion causing vasoconstricion.

Amebiasis as the Cause of Pediatric Fever of Unknown Origin

Amebiasis is a parasitic infection caused by the protozoa Entamoeba histolytica. It is capable of causing a spectrum of illnesses from asymptomatic infection, to dysentery and invasive extra-intestinal conditions, the most common of which is liver abscess. Here is presented the case of a 14-month old boy presented with Fever of Unknown Origin, which after work-up was diagnosed as amebic liver abscess. Although amebiasis is more prevalent in developing countries the increasing phenomena of migration and tourism has transformed it into a global health issue. It is recommended to maintain a high index of suspicion while valuating a child with Fever of Unknown Origin.
