Artificial neural network analysis of the day of the week anomaly in cryptocurrencies

Anomalies,which are incompatible with the efficient market hypothesis and mean a deviation from normality,have attracted the attention of both financial investors and researchers.A salient research topic is the existence of anomalies in cryptocurrencies,which have a different financial structure from that of traditional financial markets.This study expands the literature by focusing on artificial neural networks to compare different currencies of the cryptocurrency market,which is hard to predict.It aims to investigate the existence of the day-of-the-week anomaly in cryptocurrencies with feedforward artificial neural networks as an alternative to traditional methods.An artificial neural network is an effective approach that can model the nonlinear and complex behavior of cryptocurrencies.On October 6,2021,Bitcoin(BTC),Ethereum(ETH),and Cardano(ADA),which are the top three cryptocurrencies in terms of market value,were selected for this study.The data for the analysis,consisting of the daily closing prices for BTC,ETH,and ADA,were obtained from the *** website from January 1,2018 to May 31,2022.The effectiveness of the established models was tested with mean squared error,root mean squared error,mean absolute error,and Theil’s U1,and R2 OOS was used for out-of-sample.The Diebold–Mariano test was used to statistically reveal the difference between the out-of-sample prediction accuracies of the models.When the models created with feedforward artificial neural networks are examined,the existence of the day-of-the-week anomaly is established for BTC,but no day-of-the-week anomaly for ETH and ADA was found.

Tailoring MXene Thickness and Functionalization for Enhanced Room‑Temperature Trace NO_(2) Sensing

In this study,precise control over the thickness and termination of Ti3C2TX MXene flakes is achieved to enhance their electrical properties,environmental stability,and gas-sensing performance.Utilizing a hybrid method involving high-pressure processing,stirring,and immiscible solutions,sub-100 nm MXene flake thickness is achieved within the MXene film on the Si-wafer.Functionalization control is achieved by defunctionalizing MXene at 650℃ under vacuum and H2 gas in a CVD furnace,followed by refunctionalization with iodine and bromine vaporization from a bubbler attached to the CVD.Notably,the introduction of iodine,which has a larger atomic size,lower electronegativity,reduce shielding effect,and lower hydrophilicity(contact angle:99°),profoundly affecting MXene.It improves the surface area(36.2 cm^(2) g^(-1)),oxidation stability in aqueous/ambient environments(21 days/80 days),and film conductivity(749 S m^(-1)).Additionally,it significantly enhances the gas-sensing performance,including the sensitivity(0.1119Ωppm^(-1)),response(0.2% and 23%to 50 ppb and 200 ppm NO_(2)),and response/recovery times(90/100 s).The reduced shielding effect of the–I-terminals and the metallic characteristics of MXene enhance the selectivity of I-MXene toward NO2.This approach paves the way for the development of stable and high-performance gas-sensing two-dimensional materials with promising prospects for future studies.

Environmental and Climate Justice in Palestine

To have a clean, safe, and functional environment is not only essential for the purpose of preservation, but also imperative for safeguarding the most fundamental of human rights. Resolution 45/94 of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly also stresses and acknowledges that: “all individuals are entitled to live in an environment adequate for their health and wellbeing” (United Nations Digital Library System, 1991). Environmental and climate justice, which: “emerged in the context of the local environmental struggles of directly oppressed groups”, is a global movement dedicated to ensuring equal protection of people’s human rights (i.e., water, health, life, etc.) in the face of the climate crisis. Moreover, health, environment and human rights are part of the 2030 agenda (in particular, SDG 1, SDG 5, SDG 6, SDG 7, SDG 13, SDG 16, SDG 17). Individually, both environmental and climate justice are rooted in an intersectional outlook, by which they highlight the common threads between communities and the people’s inclusion, irrespective of race, class, or gender, in the pursuit of justice. On the other hand, they recognise and acknowledge the role and consequences of climate change in economic, social, and political dimensions;thus, drawing emphasis on the rights of people under the emerging inequities. In the case of Palestine, the Palestinian community is increasingly becoming vulnerable to these effects and the resulting inequalities of climate change. This vulnerability stems from: 1) The right to life;clean WASH;equitable work opportunities;access to resources;and free movement;are all examples of human rights that the Israeli colonial regime infringes upon;2) Infrastructure is essential for climate adaptation: 61% of the West Bank is ultimately barred from building infrastructure (B’Tselem, 2019) and Gaza Strip has major gaps in infrastructure due to intentional destruction by Israel;3) Palestinian deprivation of the sovereign right to natural resources by Israel;4) Apartheid system in water accessibility: I

Outcomes and predictors of vitrectomy and silicone oil tamponade in retinal detachments complicated by proliferative vitreoretinopathy

AIM:To evaluate outcomes and determine factors influencing the outcomes of vitrectomy with silicone oil(SO)endotamponade for the management of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)complicated by advanced proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR).METHODS:This is a retrospective,interventional case series of eyes with PVR grade C associated RRD with or without prior surgery that underwent vitreoretinal surgery and SO tamponade.Eyes with a minimum follow-up of 6mo after SO extraction were included.Eyes were classified into three PVR subgroups according to severity and extension of proliferation.The influence of several preoperative,intraoperative and postoperative factors upon the functional and anatomical outcomes was assessed using multivariate logistic regression analysis.RESULTS:A hundred and one eyes of 101 patients that met the inclusion criteria were studied.Seventy-five of 101 eyes(74.3%)had successful retinal reattachment after one operation.Increased aqueous cell and flare at the first week exam had a statistically significant association with redetachment,recurrent membrane proliferation and keratopathy.Visual acuity improvement was significantly associated with faint postoperative aqueous inflammation values,primary vitrectomy and PVR outside of the posterior pole.CONCLUSION:Although encouraging anatomical and functional outcomes are achieved after vitrectomy and SO tamponade in eyes with RRD complicated by PVR,an increase in aqueous flare or cells at the first week follow-up is most likely to result in postoperative late complications.Primary vitrectomy,PVR associated with minimal posterior pole extension and absent to mild postoperative aqueous inflammation are associated with improved post-operative final visual acuity.

Prognostic value of hematological parameters in older adult patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing coronary intervention:a single centre prospective study

BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease is a significant contributor to the disease burden in geriatric patients.Underlying systemic inflammation is thought to be the cause of age-related changes in the bone marrow and a major risk factor for atherosclerosis.The purpose of the study was to assess the accuracy of these hematological biomarkers in predicting 30-day mortality in older patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS).METHODS This was a prospective observational study of 601 older adult patients(age>60 years)with ACS who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention over two years(2017-2019).The relationship between baseline hematological parameters and mortality was assessed during the 30-day follow-up.Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were done to evaluate for diagnostic accuracy of various hematological parameters.RESULTS The mean age of presentation was 77±17 years.The mean neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)value was 5.07±4.90 and the mean platelet-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)value was 108.65±85.82.On univariate analysis,total leucocyte count[odds ratio(OR)=0.85,P=0.021],hematocrit(OR=0.91,P=0.018),NLR(OR=1.10,P=0.001)and PLR(OR=1.05,P=0.001)were associated with mortality.On receiver operating characteristic curve analysis,NLR predicted mortality with 68.1%and PLR with 65.7%accuracy.On multivariate analysis,NLR(OR=1.096,95%CI:1.006-1.15,P=0.035)was an independent predictor of 30-day mortality.CONCLUSIONS For the risk classification of all elderly ACS patients,we highly advise using NLR rather than the total white blood cell count.

Antioxidant and ntiinflammatory efficacy of curcumin on lung tissue in rats with sepsis

OBJECTIVE:To detect antioxidant and antiinflammatory efficacy of Curcumin(Cur)on lung tissue in rats with sepsis.METHODS:Totally 32 rats were divided into 4 groups;the rats in Group 1(control group)had abdominal incision under sterile conditions following anesthesia and the abdomen was sutured.Abdominal incision was performed in the rats in Group 2(Cur group)under sterile conditions following anesthesia and the abdomen was closed.Cur was given to this group after dissolving within dimethylsulphoxide as 100 mg/kg through oral gavage and started for 3 d before surgical procedure.Group 3(CLP group)had caecal ligation and punction(CLP)under sterile conditions to create sepsis following anesthesia and the abdomen was sutured.CLP was performed in the rats in Group 4(CLP+Cur group)under sterile conditions following anesthesia to create a sepsis model and the abdomen was closed.Cur was also given to this group after dissolving within dimethylsulphoxide as 100 mg/kg through oralgavageandstartedfor3 d before surgical proce-dure.All the rats were sacrificed through blood aspiration from the heart under sterile conditions following anesthesia and lung tissues were removed after 24 h following the surgical procedures.The tissue samples were homogenizated for biochemical analyses;and malondialdehyde(MDA),nitric okxide(NO),myeloperoxidase(MPO),superoxidedysmutase(SOD)nd catalase(CAT)were analyzed through spectrophotometric method,immunhistochemical i NOS staining was performed to assess the inflammation;and histopathological differences between the groups were evaluated.RESULTS:A statistically significant decrease was detected in the CLP+Cur group when compared with the CLP group of which Cur was not given in terms of MDA,MPO and NO levels(P<0.05)whereas a statistically significant elevation was fpund in the CLP+Cur group when compared with the CLP group in terms of SOD and CAT levels(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The study outcomes revealed that supplementation of Cur presents an antioxidant effect by reducing the free radical level and

Sign language recognition can be treated as one of the efficient solu-tions for disabled people to communicate with others.It helps them to convey the required data by the use of sign language with no issues.The latest develop-ments in computer vision and image processing techniques can be accurately uti-lized for the sign recognition process by disabled people.American Sign Language(ASL)detection was challenging because of the enhancing intraclass similarity and higher complexity.This article develops a new Bayesian Optimiza-tion with Deep Learning-Driven Hand Gesture Recognition Based Sign Language Communication(BODL-HGRSLC)for Disabled People.The BODL-HGRSLC technique aims to recognize the hand gestures for disabled people’s communica-tion.The presented BODL-HGRSLC technique integrates the concepts of compu-ter vision(CV)and DL models.In the presented BODL-HGRSLC technique,a deep convolutional neural network-based residual network(ResNet)model is applied for feature extraction.Besides,the presented BODL-HGRSLC model uses Bayesian optimization for the hyperparameter tuning process.At last,a bidir-ectional gated recurrent unit(BiGRU)model is exploited for the HGR procedure.A wide range of experiments was conducted to demonstrate the enhanced perfor-mance of the presented BODL-HGRSLC model.The comprehensive comparison study reported the improvements of the BODL-HGRSLC model over other DL models with maximum accuracy of 99.75%.

The problem of producing a natural language description of an image for describing the visual content has gained more attention in natural language processing(NLP)and computer vision(CV).It can be driven by applications like image retrieval or indexing,virtual assistants,image understanding,and support of visually impaired people(VIP).Though the VIP uses other senses,touch and hearing,for recognizing objects and events,the quality of life of those persons is lower than the standard level.Automatic Image captioning generates captions that will be read loudly to the VIP,thereby realizing matters happening around them.This article introduces a Red Deer Optimization with Artificial Intelligence Enabled Image Captioning System(RDOAI-ICS)for Visually Impaired People.The presented RDOAI-ICS technique aids in generating image captions for VIPs.The presented RDOAIICS technique utilizes a neural architectural search network(NASNet)model to produce image representations.Besides,the RDOAI-ICS technique uses the radial basis function neural network(RBFNN)method to generate a textual description.To enhance the performance of the RDOAI-ICS method,the parameter optimization process takes place using the RDO algorithm for NasNet and the butterfly optimization algorithm(BOA)for the RBFNN model,showing the novelty of the work.The experimental evaluation of the RDOAI-ICS method can be tested using a benchmark dataset.The outcomes show the enhancements of the RDOAI-ICS method over other recent Image captioning approaches.

Newly Design Porous/Sponge Red Phosphorus@Graphene and Highly Conductive Ni2P Electrode for Asymmetric Solid State Supercapacitive Device With Excellent Performance

Supercapacitors have attracted much attention in the field of electrochemical energy storage.However,material preparation,stability,performance as well as power density limit their applications in many fields.Herein,a sponge-like red phosphorus@graphene(rP@rGO)negative electrode and a Ni2P positive electrode were prepared using a simple one-step method.Both electrodes showed excellent performances(294 F g^−1 and 1526.6 F g^−1 for rP@rGO and Ni2P,respectively),which seem to be the highest among all rP@rGO-and Ni2P-based electrodes reported so far.The asymmetric solid-state supercapacitor was assembled by sandwiching a gel electrolyte-soaked cellulose paper between rP@rGO and Ni2P as the negative and positive electrodes.Compared to other asymmetric devices,the device,which attained a high operating window of up to 1.6 V,showed high energy and power density values of 41.66 and 1200 W kg−1,respectively.It also has an excellent cyclic stability up to 88%after various consecutive charge/discharge tests.Additionally,the device could power commercial light emitting diodes and fans for 30 s.So,the ease of the synthesis method and excellent performance of the prepared electrode materials mat have significant potential for energy storage applications.
