Food Intake Characteristics during Early Pregnancy in Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

To investigate the characteristic food intake during early pregnancy in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a rural city in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, one hundred and twenty-one women were recruited and queried about their habitual dietary intake. Food intake of patients was assessed using the model nutritional balance chart at 12 - 16, 24 - 28, and 34 - 36 weeks of gestation. Of the 121 pregnant women examined, 19 were obese. During early pregnancy, food intake ratios of the obese women were significantly lower than those of the non-obese women for the categories of milk (p < 0.001) and sugar (p < 0.05). GDM group was 7 women among 19 women in obesity group during mid-pregnancy. During early pregnancy, women with GDM had significantly higher sugar intake ratios than women without GDM (p < 0.05). These results suggested that obese pregnant women are able to prevent GDM by limiting their sugar intake during early pregnancy.

Influence of smoking on postpartum depression in Japan

Aim: To investigate the influence of smoking on postpartum depression. Methods: One thousand fifty-one women, in a rural city in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, prospectively fulfilled the selection criteria and completed self-reporting questionnaires on postnatal depression at 5-6 days, 1 month, 4 months, 7 months and 12 months after childbirth, using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and a life and social events scales including smoking habits. Results: Seven hundred seventy-seven women were non-smokers. Among two hundred seventy-four women who were smokers before becoming pregnant (26% of pregnant women), 241 women quit smoking during pregnancy and 33 women continued smoking. Smoking habits were significantly associated with sociopsychological states and we found that EPDS scores of smokers were significantly higher than EPDS of non-smokers. The EPDS scores of both non-smokers and smokers were higher at 5-6 days, but were stable from 1 month to 12 months, after childbirth. Fifty-one women who quit smoking after childbirth resumed smoking during he 1-12 month periods after childbirth. The EPDS scores of 51 women who resumed smoking were significantly reduced after they resumed smoking. Conclusion: The EPDS scores of smokers were higher than those of non-smokers and a smoking habit may help to alleviate postpartum depression.

Aim: To compare diets between obese and non-obese in healthy older subjects. Methods: Forty-five obese and eighty-seven non-obese older subjects were recruited and their habitual factors that may contribute to obesity were assessed. Intakes of food by food-group in the obesity and non-obesity groups were checked using a visual type presentation of model nutriational balance chart (MNBC). Results: Average intake ratio of food relative to ideal food intake was significantly higher in the obesity group than the non-obesity group. The relationship of obesity and exercise or habitual activities was not significant. Conclusion: Food intake is a primary factor of obesity but regular exercise or habitual activities is not a key factor for obesity in older subjects. Since exercise habit is difficult to achieve in older subjects, particularly those who are obese, food control using the present visualtype MNBC would be one strategy forthe management of obesity.

The friction characteristics of a shock absorber are very complex because the reciprocating motion is not always *** this study,a device was developed and used to analyze the dynamic friction characteristics under various reciprocating sliding conditions to determine the sliding materials and hydraulic oils that improve the shock absorber *** study describes the influence of hydraulic oil additive on the fine reciprocating friction characteristics of steel and copper *** oils were prepared by blending a paraffinic mineral oil with zinc dithiophosphate(ZnDTP)and polyhydric alcohol ester as *** results show that the dynamic frictional characteristics vary mainly depending on the additive concentration.A specific additive formulation induces a unique amplitude-dependent friction *** addition,the influence of different additives on the lubrication mechanism is investigated based on the instrumental analysis of the friction surface.

The present study discusses the relationships between two independently developed models of games with incomplete information, hypergames （Bennett, 1977） and Bayesian games （Harsanyi, 1967）. The authors first show that any hypergame can naturally be reformulated in terms of Bayesian games in an unified way. The transformation procedure is called Bayesian representation of hypergame. The authors then prove that some equilibrium concepts defined for hypergames are in a sense equivalent to those for Bayesian games. Furthermore, the authors discuss carefully based on the proposed analysis how each model should be used according to the analyzer＇s purpose.

This paper discusses the relationship of two independently developed models of games with incomplete information,hierarchical hypergames and Bayesian *** can be considered as a generalization of the previous study on the theoretical comparison of simple hypergames and Bayesian games(sasaki and Kijima,2012) by taking into account hierarchy of perceptions,i.e.,an agent's perception about the other agents' perceptions,and so *** authors first introduce the general way of transformation of any hierarchical hypergames into corresponding Bayesian games,which was called as the Bayesian representation of hierarchical *** authors then show that some equilibrium concepts for hierarchical hypergames can be associated with those for Bayesian games and discuss implications of the results.

An 87-year-old,Japanese woman was shown to have a submucosal tumor-like lesion with a deep,central ulceration covered with thick,whitish exudate in the *** showed Candida tropicalis but not Helicobacter pylori(***).She had no predisposing factors or history of peptic ulcers nor had taken non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs),diagnosed with Candida-associated gastric *** cured of the lesion,she developed another ulcer in a different position,in which Candida was demonstrated but *** was *** is the first case of recurrent Candida-associated gastric ulcer in the *** in both the original and recurrent lesions in an ***-negative patient with no antecedent ulcers who had not taken NSAIDs,Candida is considered,contrary to the prevailing opinion,to play an etiologic role in ulcer formation.

Population synthesis studies into planet formation have suggested that distributions consistent with observations can only be reproduced if the actual Type Ⅰ migration timescale is at least an order of magnitude longer than that deduced from linear *** past studies considered the effect of the Type I migration of protoplanetary embryos,in most cases they used a conventional formula based on static torques in isothermal disks,and employed a reduction factor to account for uncertainty in the mechanism ***,in addition to static torques,a migrating planet experiences dynamic torques that are proportional to the migration *** dynamic torques can impact on planet migration and predicted planetary *** this study,we derived a new torque formula for Type Ⅰ migration by taking into account dynamic *** formula was used to perform population synthesis simulations with and without the effect of dynamic *** many cases,inward migration was slowed significantly by the dynamic *** the static torque case,gas giant formation was effectively suppressed by Type I migration;however,when dynamic effects were considered,a substantial fraction of cores survived and grew into gas giants.

Highly dispersed palladium nanoparticles were synthesized in the presence of immobilized ionic liquid on mesoporous silica ***(2.4 nm)_me-Im@SBA-15 catalyst was prepared by the reduction using NaBH_4 as the reducing agent with controlled feed rate and has been investigated as ligand-free catalyst for Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction at room temperature in aqueous solution under *** catalyst was also prepared in situ from PdCl4_me-Im@SBA-15 during the reaction and demonstrated high activity and stability towards nitrobenzene hydrogenation at high temperature. Both catalysts were reusable at least for four recycle processes without significant loss in activity with simple procedure. The catalysts were characterized by TEM, EXAFS, FTIR and XPS.
