Rapid urbanization has caused significant problems,and sustainable city design can play an important role in solving these problems under limited budgets and *** studies have proposed city evaluation indicators that can suggest appropriate urban ***,these indicators do not clearly consider economic theory,which is crucial for understanding accumulation of urban capital stock by the flows from daily urban *** study proposes a research framework based on economic theory for evaluating urban sustainability;this framework uses the inclusive wealth index(IWI)concept to examine inclusive urban capital *** examines the advantages of using the IWI as a city evaluation indicator along with data envelopment analysis and a decomposition analysis *** use data for 20 Japanese ordinance-designated cities for an empirical study to demonstrate a proposed approach for evaluating inclusive urban *** developed research application evaluates each city’s relative superiority in terms of capital accumulation and identifies those factors determining changes in capital flows via changes in efficiency,priority,and *** combination of these results can be helpful to decision makers seeking to increase urban capital by considering reference city information and relative superiority.

A comparative analysis of Japanese firm productivity： Solow residual and Malmquist productivity index

For some time, two major kinds of Total Factor Productivity （TFP） have existed independently of each other： the Solow residual and the Malmquist Productivity Index （MPI）. The Solow residual was introduced in macro economic growth models, and the MPI has been used in micro economics and management studies. As both indices were developed independently, few studies utilize both together and compare the results. This paper uses the same data to compare the two productivity indices by setting to determine the economic implications of combining the two indices. We discovered that we could decompose TFP with each aspect of the Soiow residual and MPI. We could then interpret their relationship in the business cycle. Our results indicated that the frontier shift in MPI of Japanese firms often occurred when the Solow residual increased, meaning that improving oroductivitv with the Solow residual could be generated by a firm that could shift new production frontiers.

Wastewater Pollution Abatement in China: A Comparative Study of Fifteen Industrial Sectors from 1998 to 2010

This study analyzes the management of wastewater pollutants in a number of Chinese industrial sectors from 1998 to 2010. We use decomposition analysis to calculate changes in wastewater pollutant emissions that result from cleaner production processes, end-of-pipe treatment, structural changes in industry, and changes in the scale of production. We focus on one indicator of water quality and three pollutants: chemical oxygen demand (COD), petroleum, cyanide, and volatile phenols. We find that until 2002, COD emissions were mainly reduced through end-of-pipe treatments. Cleaner production processes didn’t begin contributing to COD emissions reductions until the introduction of a 2003 law that enforced their implementation. Petroleum emissions were primarily lowered through cleaner production mechanisms, which have the added benefit of reducing the input cost of intermediate petroleum. Diverse and effective pollution abatement strategies for cyanide and volatile phenols are emerging among industries in China. It will be important for the government to consider differences between industries should they choose to regulate the emissions of specific chemical substances.
