AIM： To determine the efficacy of an interferon alpha and ribavirin combination treatment for Japanese patients infected with hepatitis C virus （HCV） of genotype 2, a multi-center study was retrospectively analyzed. METHODS： In total, 173 patients with HCV genotype 2 started to receive interferon-alpha subcutaneously thrice a week and 600-800 mg of ribavirin daily for 24 wk. RESULTS： The overall sustained virological response （SVR）, defined as undetectable HCV RNA in serum, 24 wk after the end of treatment, was remarkably high by 84.4%, （146/173） by an intention-to-treat analysis. A significant difference in SVR was found between patients with and without the discontinuation of ribavirin （46.9% vs 92.9 %）, but no difference was found between those with and without a dose reduction of ribavirin. A significant difference in SVR was also found between patients with less than 16 wk and patients with 16 or more weeks of ribavirin treatment （34.8 % vs 92.0 %）. CONCLUSION： The 24-wk interferon and ribavirin treatment is highly effective for Japanese patients with HCV genotype 2. The significant predictor of SVR is continuation of the ribavirin treatment for up to 16

The morphologies and properties of epoxy/brominated-phenoxy blends cured with novolac phenolic resin have been *** the brominated-phenoxy content for epoxy was less than 30%with a weight,the continuous phase was formed by the cured ***,when the brominated-phenoxy content was more than 40%with a weight, a phase-inverted morphology was observed by scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM).In all these cured blends,two discrete T’s were found by dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA).Since the higher T was found at 155℃, the phase could be attributed to cured epoxy ***,since the lower Tg was found at 128℃,the phase could be attributed to *** brominated-phenoxy contents were in 40%～50%with a weight,although brominated -phenoxy of thermoplastics formed a continuous phase,rubbery plateaus of storage modulus(E’) were still found, i.e.,it was found that both properties of thermoplastics and thermoset could exist together in these cured *** the tensile elongation and the tensile strength could be increased together,and the T-peel adhesion strength and the lapshear adhesion strength also could be increased together.

＜正＞ In allergic rhinitis, nasal obstruction is considered to be induced by both a dilatation of plexus caverosum and an increase in vascular permeability in nasal mucosa. Nitric oxide （NO）,a powerful vasodilator, is suggested to be involved in allergic inflammation. In the present study, the effect of repeated antigen exposure on leukotriene D4（LTD4）-induced NO production in nasal mucosa was investigated. The changes in mRNA expression of NO synthase （NOS） isoforms in nasal mucosae of the antigen-induced nasal hyperresponsive rats were also determined by immunoblottings. The mRNA level of iNOS. but not eNOS and nNOS. was significantly increased in nasal mucosae of repeatedly antigen challenged rats. In addition, the LTD4-induced NO production in nasal mucosae of nasal hyperresponsive rats was markedly augmented as compared with that of control animals . Interestingly, the venodilatation induced by sodium nitroprusside. an NO donor, was also augmented in nasal hyperresponsive rats. Therefore, not only increased NO production but also enhanced NO responsiveness might be involved in the development of nasal hyperresponsiveness in allergic rhinitis.

Temporal Sequence of Sweetness Perception in Fruit-Flavored Tea: A Descriptive Report on the Influence of Sucrose Concentrations on the Sensation

The goals of this study were to examine, using the temporal dominance of sensations (TDS) method, the effects of 1) the sucrose concentration on the temporal sequence of sweetness perception in four fruit-flavored (lemon, peach, strawberry, and vanilla) teas with 0.05, 0.15, and 0.25 M sucrose;and 2) participants’ sex on this temporal sequence. Twenty-four healthy young adults were assigned to female (n = 12) and male (n = 12) groups. Both groups evaluated five sensory attributes in 12 samples (four fruit-flavored teas, each with three sucrose concentrations). As in our preceding study [1], two sensations, sweetness and fruitiness, were dominant after ingesting the 12 teas in both groups, but the temporal sequence of sweetness perception differed between the two groups. On average, the male group reported the first appearance of sweetness earlier in the samples with 0.05 M sucrose compared with the female group, with the samples containing 0.15 and 0.25 M sucrose. The average durations of the sweetness sensation were different between the male and female groups as well as among the sucrose concentrations and the four flavors tested.

＜正＞ This paper presents a design approach to the electronic throttle control without any requirement of the exact values of the parameters. The dynamics of the electronic throttle involves high nonlinearity and the parameters my change significantly during operation. The proposed controller is based on a variable structure control law with parameter adaptation function. In order to demonstrate the validity of the proposed controller, a simulation and an experimental results will be given.

Ecotourism Potentials for Financing Parks and Protected Areas＂ A Perspective From Iran＇s Parks

Ecotourism has been considered as the impetus and economic investment for management of natural resources. The current research uses data mining from the recreation values of Iran＇s parks and separating influential factors on visitors＇ willingness to pay （WTP）. This study delves into the main findings of 31 researches applied to assess the recreation value of 33 different parks across Iran from 2004 to 2011. Those researches collected 9,216 questionnaires in total. It was conducted using R software and Rattle user interface to analyze gathered data and information. Results showed that 69% of respondents were male. The averages of age and academic years were 34.4 and 13.7 respectively. The majority of the visitors were willing to pay money to visit the parks. Variables of education levels, household size, marital status, age, and bid amount had an effect on visitors＇ rate of WTP for visiting, and variables of gender, education levels, and marital status affected the general amount of WTP. The average amount of WTP per person was estimated at US $1.4, and the average annual recreation value for each hectare of parks was calculated at US $2,313. This study provides justification for the decision to support the quality of Iran＇s parks.

MR Differentiation of Endometriomas Complicated with and without Malignancy: Comparison with Pathological Findings

Introduction: The purposes were to clarify the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of malignant ovarian lesions arising from endometriomas, and to compare the lesions’ histopathology and MRI characteristics. Materials and Methods: Between May 2004 and December 2012, 140 patients, all of whom were diagnosed as having an endometrioma by using MR imaging, underwent surgery. We compared the MR characteristics including size and signal intensity of the tumor and mural nodules, the thickness of the septum, and the thickness of the wall with the pathological diagnoses. The attached angles of the mural nodules to the cyst wall were also evaluated. Results: Among the 179 lesions, preoperative MR imaging diagnosed 153 benign and 26 malignant. Based on the pathological results, 169 were diagnosed as benign and 10 were diagnosed as malignant. Finally, preoperative MR imaging correctly diagnosed 152 benign (group 1) and nine malignant (group 2), misdiagnosed 17 benign as malignant (group 3) and misdiagnosed one malignant as benign (group 4). As for mural nodules, there was a significant difference between groups 1 and 2 in the mean maximum diameter of the mural nodules. An acute attached angle was shown in 1 of 7 in group 1, in 11 of 16 in group 2, and in 14 of 22 in group 3. We also compared benign group with malignant group on the final pathological findings. As for mural nodules, there was a significant difference between groups 1 + 3 and group 2 in the mean maximum diameter of the mural nodules. On dynamic study, there were 22 enhanced mural nodules (75.9%) on group 1 + 3. Conclusion: Most of endometriomas preoperatively diagnosed as benign were pathological benign lesions. Endometriomas that contain many enhanced mural nodules with papillary shape, larger size, showing hypointense on T1WI, hyperintense on T2WI and showing an acute attached angle may have malignant potential.

Vibration Signal Analysis for Detecting Early-Stage Lumbar Spondylolysis Using Synthetic Bone

Bone fractures can be detected by analyzing vibration signals following bone stimulation. This method can also be applied to detect stress fractures, such as spondylolysis. The aim of this study was to investigate whether vibration signal analysis can be used to detect lumbar spondylolysis in synthetic bone. Four synthetic spondylolysis models of the fifth lumbar vertebra (Sawbones, product No. SAW1352-10: Malmö, Sweden) were prepared, with the following conditions: intact, unilateral defect, and bilateral defect. Unilateral defects were created by making an incision of either half the diameter (50% incision) or the entire diameter (100% incision) in length through the pars interarticularis or pedicle. Bilateral defects were created by making an additional incision of half the diameter in length on the opposite side of the defected pars interarticularis or pedicle (50% + 100% incision). Hammering was performed five times on each spinous process of the fixed synthetic bones and vibration signals were measured using an accelerometer attached to the contralateral side of the hammer. Signals were analyzed using fast Fourier transform. The parameters analyzed included the mean power frequency, first power minimum frequency (the minimum value between the first and second peaks), spectral areas of low and high frequency bands, and the relative ratio between the spectral areas of low and high frequency bands. The relative ratio was significantly lower in the 50%, 100%, and 50% + 100% incision conditions compared to the intact condition (p < 0.01), suggesting the potential utility of vibration signal analysis in diagnosing lumbar spondylolysis.

Vegetation monitoring using different scale of remote sensing data

This work sets out to simulate landscape model of Mu Us Desert in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China at different spatial resolution using remote sensing images and distinguished landscape heterogeneity among different spatial resolutions. Landscape models were created from classification image of SPOT satellite data with 20m resolution and NOAA data with 1 km resolution. This study created landscape models of different scales by resampling the SPOT classified image using majority rule. The pixel resolution was increased from the finest scale of 20m by 20m up to 1000m by 1000m that was the coarsest spatial resolution. The Shannon diversity index was used to compare landscape models between different scales. At the finer scale the verify small patches such as deciduous forest, shrub and reedswamp with high vegetation coverage set on matrices with low vegetation cover (moving sand dune and sparse grassland) were verified. Broadening of scale resulted to the loss of small patches and at 1000m resolution, matrix classes were dominant. At 1km resolution of NOAA data, the matrix classes which greatly related to the topography of Mu Us Desert were detected. Diversity index decreased during scale broadening and the difference between SPOT 1km scale model and AVHRR data was not significant. The results showed that SPOT 20m model is good for the use of ecotone oriented revegetation planning, and NOAA 1km model is good for the seasonal and annual monitoring of each landscape unit, and revegetation planning at the regional level.
