We performed a dynamic downscaling using REGcm4 regional model driven by mPI global model for current (1990/2012) and near-future (2015/2039) climate in order to characterize the seasonal rainfall regimes throughout the railroad areas in eastern Amazon and southeastern Brazil. The analysis of observational data for the current climate indicated the existence of pronounced spatial variations in rainfall regime across railroad regions during both the rainy and dry seasons. Although models have presented generalized underestimation, the regional model showed improvements on spatial representation and intensity of the rainfall in comparison with global model results. We reported the future projections taking into account the correction of simulated rainfall by the values of the biases found in each respective seasonal regime, so that the results are expressed by percentage changes of the future (2015/2037) relative to the current climate patterns. For the railroad in eastern Amazon, projections indicate a weak decrease of rainfall of about -15% in the rainy season (January to may), however during the dry season (June to October) are expected drastic reductions between -70% and -90% in south (carajás in Pará state) and north (Sao Luis in maranhao state) portions. conversely, for the railroad in southeast Brazil, model projections point out for an increased rainfall regime during the rainy season (October to February) around +30% to +40% in the east part of the region over the Espírito Santo state.

The present work aimed to evaluate the behavior of glyphosate herbicide in aquatic environment, considering some water quality parameters, in reservoir conditions without flow and without replacement of evapotranspired water. Twenty reservoirs (polyethylene water tanks) with a storage capacity of 1000 liters were used. The recommended herbicide dose according to the manufacturer was 7.0 L or 3360 grams of acid equivalent per hectare. For application in the reservoirs, a precision equipment was used to carbon dioxide (cO2), providing a flow of 200 L·ha-1. Freezing macrophyte death was achieved by storing the plants in a freezer at -18°c for a period of 48 hours. The analyses of control efficiency were performed at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days after application (DAA). Water samples for analysis of quality indicators, pH and dissolved oxygen were collected weekly for nine weeks. The obtained result allows concluding that the herbicide glyphosate presented excellent control efficiency of water hyacinth and did not significantly alter the water quality parameters pH and dissolved oxygen, indicating its use in the management of this macrophyte.

Intergranular corrosion of AISI 304 Heat Treated at 800℃ Varying Range Times

Austenitic stainless steels, when exposed to welding conditions or aging for length of service, it＇s observed the formation of numerous deleterious phases, such as several kinds of carbides type mc, m6c, m7c3, m23c6, and intermetallic secondary phases （sigma, chi, laves）, which cause the process of intergranular corrosion. The aim of this work was verifying the formation of the types of carbides and/or intermetallic phases existing in the stainless AISI 304 at 800 ℃, varying the timing of heat treatment between 30, 360 and 1,440 min. The optical microscopy analysis revealed the predominant formation of the carbide type m23c6. The results of DL-EPR （double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation） tests showed a gradual increase in the precipitation of this carbide with the increase of treatment time. The potentiodynamic polarization showed that the precipitation of this carbide reduce the formation of the cr2O3 passive layer, suggesting that the precipitate carbide to be predominantly of the cr23c6 type.

Species of Staphylococcus are common in hospital infection (HI). methicillin resistant S. aureus (mRSA) has also become a serious problem in Brazilian HI. The aim of this study was to characterize the pathogenicity of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (mRSA) and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (mSSA) isolated in public hospitals. The clinical isolates were obtained from intensive care unit. The mRSA and mSSA strains were genotyped by PcR for detection genes related to virulence factors. moreover, the strains were tested for biofilm formation and cytokine induction in macrophages. Three strains of mRSA (9.68%) expressed the Sea gene, one (3.23%) Seb, 17 (54.84%) Spa and seven (22.58%) had PVL. Two mSSA strains (2.98%) expressed the Sea gene, three (4.48%) Seb, 18 (26.87%) Spa and 11 (16.42%) showed positive results for the PVL gene. There was no expression of Sec and cflA between mRSA and mSSA strains. Among mRSA and mSSA isolates, none statistical differences were observed in biofilm production. The analysis of cytokine induction in the inflammatory response of J774 macrophages by mRSA and mSSA isolates did not show statistical difference. Understanding the mechanisms of pathogenesis of S. aureus could provide important clues for both preventing and treating infection caused by these organisms.

Bourreria huanita (Lex.) Hemsl. (Boraginaceae) is a very rare and highly appreciated tree in mesoamerica for its medicinal properties and beauty. It grows in a region extending from central mexico to costa Rica. Ethnobotanical surveys have shown that the infusion of dried flowers is popularly used as a tranquilizer to cure several diseases. In the present study we report the isolation of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBZ) obtained from the hydroalcoholic extract (HE) of B. huanita, and the effect of both, the extract and the compound on the central nervous system in mice. HE of B. huanita (100, 150, 300 mg/kg) and pHBZ (10 mg/kg) were orally administered to mice and 1 h later, behavioral tests were performed. The effects of HE and pHBZ were tested by pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) and strychnine (STR) induced seizures, pentobarbital-induced hypnosis, the forced swimming test and the tail suspension test, the elevated plus maze, apomorphine-induced stereotypy and the climbing test, the inhibitory avoidance test and the open-field test. B. huanita extract produced hypnotic, anxiolytic and antidepressant effects in animals, with no change in motor performance. On the other hand, the extract did not reduce PTZ and STR-induced convulsions, apomorphine-induced stereotypy or climbing. moreover, no changes were observed in the animals’ memory. The compound pHBZ was effective only in the depression tests. The results obtained in the present study suggest that B. huanita exhibited sedative, antidepressant and hypnotic activities in mice, and that the antidepressant activity may be mediated by an isolated compound identified as pHBZ.

The mesquite pods have a high nutritional value, being a rich source of sugars, proteins, minerals and fibers that can be used as a raw material for the development of a number of food products and technological innovations. The objective of this work was to study the drying kinetics of mesquite pods in a thin layer, 20 mm length and determine the effective diffusion coefficient by adjusting mathematical models that were based on heat transfer and mass fundamentals. For the experiments, we used mature mesquite, with 20% water content (b.u). Drying experiments were performed using temperatures of 50°c, 60°c, 70°c and 80°c with drying air speed of 2 m•s-1. It was used a convective dryer with fixed bed and upflow air. mathematical models of Fick, Page, cavalcanti-mata, Two Exponential Terms and Henderson & Pabis were used to adjust the experimental data. To calculate the effective diffusivity, flat plate geometry with sample thickness of 6.5 mm was used. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that the loss of water from mesquite occurred during the drying period in decreasing rate;and with increasing drying temperature, total process time was reduced. The diffusion coefficient increased by increasing drying temperature. mathematical models including theoretical (Fick), semi-theoretical (Page and cavalcanti-mata) and empirical (Two Exponential Terms) models satisfactorily explain the experimental data of drying mesquite.

Salivary glands(SG)are exocrine organs with secretory units commonly injured by ***-engineered organoids and extracellular vesicles(EV)are currently under investigation as potential strategies for SG ***,three-dimensional(3D)cultures of SG functional organoids(SGo)and human dental pulp stem cells(hDPSc)were generated by magnetic 3D bioassembly(m3DB)*** growth factor 10(FGF10)was used to enrich the SGo in secretory epithelial *** 11 culture days via m3DB,SGo displayed SG-specific acinar epithelial units with functional properties upon *** consistently develop 3D hDPSc in vitro,3 culture days were sufficient to maintain hDPSc undifferentiated genotype and phenotype for EV *** isolation was performed via sequential centrifugation of the conditioned media of hDPSc and SGo *** were characterized by nanoparticle tracking analysis,electron microscopy and *** were in the exosome range for hDPSc(diameter:88.03±15.60 nm)and for SGo(123.15±63.06 nm).Upon ex vivo administration,exosomes derived from SGo significantly stimulated epithelial growth(up to 60%),mitosis,epithelial progenitors and neuronal growth in injured SG;however,such biological effects were less distinctive with the ones derived from ***,these exosome biological effects were investigated by proteomic *** spectrometry profiling of SGo exosomes predicted that cellular growth,development and signaling was due to known and undocumented molecular targets downstream of *** were identified as one of the novel targets requiring further ***,m3DB platforms can generate exosomes with potential to ameliorate SG epithelial damage.

Environmental sustainability issues and the costs of new power generation and transmission have increased the interest in evolving current power grid to new technologies. The Smart Grid is a promising technology, since it allows a distributed computing approach with potentials for self-diagnosing/-healing, reliable multi-user communication and fast hard real-time control. However, the missing standardization associated with heterogeneity of legacy systems and wide-area service demands, makes very challenging to adopt Smart Grid in a cost-effective way. By considering this, we propose the Session-Oriented communication System (SOcSys) to overcome the above issues by enhancing Smart Grid with truly reliable and robust capabilities over heterogeneous environments. SOcSys achieves this goal by orchestrating session-control with innovative network-centric facilities operating over a wireless mesh Information Network compliant with IEEE 802.11e/s standard. The simulation results show that SOcSys improved network performance in terms of bandwidth utilization and minimization of delay, while consuming low network resources. Graphical analyses showed that SOcSys supported multimedia sessions with excellent quality, where it outperforms the experiments with regular settings.

Because the aetiology of chronic pelvic pain is complex, studies of the condition involve extensive investigation but provide few conclusions. Numerous studies have addressed the experiences of women with chronic pelvic pain, as well as the interaction between those women and their health care providers. Our objective was to investigate how physicians at a specialised clinic perceive the medical care provided to such women. This was a qualitative study employing semi-structured interviews and content analysis. We interviewed seven physicians at the chronic Pelvic Pain Outpatient clinic of the University Hospital, Faculty of medicine of Ribeir?o Preto, University of S?o Paulo, Brazil. medical training and practice constituted the central theme of the study, which was subdivided into categories addressing the influence that the current medical training has on the type of medical care provided to women with chronic pelvic pain. medical practice has been characterised by a reductionist approach to health and illness, as well as by the fragmentation of health care. These characteristics are, to a certain extent, the result of the biomedical model of education, which has been predominant, ignoring social, cultural, psychological and emotional aspects. There is a need to shift the medical paradigms toward a humanistic model of health care. We hope that we have provided a critical view of current medical training and practice, as well as of their effects in various health care settings, particularly in the provision of care to women with chronic pelvic pain.
