Background:Animal studies have demonstrated that functional immune responses,as determined by the levels of Cd4+cell counts and anti-schistosome antibodies responses,determine the efficacy of *** on this evidence,it has been hypothesised that the immunodeficiency effects of the human immunodeficiency virus(hiV)-1 infection may affect the efficacy of praziquantel in co-infected human ***,the present study assessed the efficacy of praziquantel by comparing parasitological cure rates and the reduction in infection intensity in hiV-1 seronegative individuals infected with *** and hiV-1 seropositive individuals co-infected with ***,following treatment with a single oral dose of ***:This was a prospective longitudinal study which included,at baseline,555 *** infected adults aged 21-55 years,who were either co-infected or not with hiV-1 and who lived in fishing villages along Lake Victoria in Northwest *** individuals were treated with a single oral dose of praziquantel(40 mg/kg)and,at 12 weeks,single stool samples were obtained and examined for *** eggs using the Kato-Katz *** prick and venous blood samples were collected for hiV-1 screening and Cd4+cell ***:The parasitological cure rate did not differ significantly from the hiV-1 serostatus(P=0.12):among the co-infected individuals,the cure rate was 48.3%(14/29),and among the individuals infected only with ***,the cure rate was 62.6%(329/526).The egg reduction rate did not vary with the hiV-1 serostatus(P=0.22):77.22%for hiV-1 seronegative and 75%for hiV-1 seropositive *** level of Cd4^(+) cell counts(median 228 cells/μL:range 202-380 cells)did not influence the cure rate(P=0.23)or the reduction in the intensity of the infection(P=0.37).Conclusion:The hiV-1 infection per se or its moderate immunodeficiency effects,demonstrated by the range of Cd4^(+) cell counts observed in co-infected individuals,d

PREPARiNG NANO-CRYSTALLiNE La dOPEd WC/Co POWdER BY hiGH ENERGY BALL MiLLiNG

The La doped WC/Co powder was prepared by high energy ball milling. The changes of crystal structure, micrograph and defect of the powder were investigated by means of XRd (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscope) and dTA (differential thermal analysis). The results show that adding trace La element into carbides is effective to minish the grain size of WC/Co powder. The La doped carbides powder with grain size of 30nm can be obtained after 10h ball milling. The XRd peak of Co phase disappeared after 20h ball milling, which indicated solid solution (or secondary solid solution) of Co phase in WC phase. The La doped powder with grain size of 10nm is obtained after 30h ball milling. A peak of heat release at the temperature of 470℃ was emerged in dTA curve within the range of heating temperature, which showed that the crystal structure relaxation of the powder appeared in the process of high energy ball milling. After consolidated the La doped WC/Co alloy by high energy ball milling exhibits ultra-fine grain sizes and better mechanical properties.

The research emphasizes on the relation of the Arabic concept of ＂ma＇ani nahwi＂ and the Latin ＂modistae＂. in order to establish this relation, the researcher illustrates the role of Aristotle＇s categories in influencing the concept of the Medieval Latin ＂modistae＂. This is followed by a reevaluation of the influence of Arabic philosophers, such as al-Farabi （c.870-c.950 CE）, Avicenna （980-1037 CE） and Averoes （c.1126-c.1198 CE） on Latin philosophy and linguistics, especially Jurjani＇s （d.1078 CE） role in introducing his concept of ＂nazm＂ towards ＂ma＇ani nahwi＂. The research contributes to the understanding of the relationship between syntax and semantics which has not been effectively clarified within the framework of traditional Arabic grammatical theory.

Genetic variability and divergence studies in pod and seed traits of Pongamia pinnata(L.) Pierre., accessions in Bay islands

in this study, we assessed the variability in pod, seed traits and oil content of 24 accessions of Pongamia pinnata collected from different parts of the Andaman and Nicobar islands, india. The experiment was conducted at the Central Agricultural Research institute, Port Blair during 2010 to 2011. The variability studies for pod and seed traits revealed that, the accession CPT-6 collected from New Wandoor in South Andaman recorded the maximum values for eight traits viz. pod length （75.51 mm）, pod width （34.62 mm）, pod thickness （17.55 mm）, 100 pod weight （770.33 g）, seed width （21.23 mm）, 100 seed weight （377.00 g）, oil percentage （43.92%） and germination percentage （94.7%）. However, the maximum seed length （26.46 mm） was recorded from CPT 2 and the maximum pod-seed ratio was obtained from CPT 13 and CPT 4 （2.50 and 2.44 respectively）. The phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variations were also close to each other for all traits, but the 100 pod and seed weight exhibited higher phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation than the other traits. Estimates of broad sense heritability ranged from 0.30 （for seed length） to 0.95 （pod length） and genetic ad- vance as percent of the mean ranged between 11.66% and 57.40% with seed length giving the lowest value and 100 pod weight giving the high- est value. Both the phenotypic and genotypic correlation between pod length, pod width, pod thickness, 100 pod weight, seed width and 100 seed weight and between pod thickness, 100 pod weight, seed width, 100 seed weight and germination percentage were found to be strong. On the basis of non hierarchical Euclidian cluster analysis, 24 accessions were grouped into six clusters. The maximum numbers of seven accessions were included in cluster Vi. The maximum intra cluster distance （10.238）shown by cluster Vi and the maximum inter cluster distance （17.021） between V and hi followed by iii and ii （15.942）. 目的:研究3d腹腔镜系统在结直肠癌根治术中手术操作技术、术后短期疗效、可行性、安全性及肿瘤根治性。方法:采用前瞻性分析法,比较2013年11月至2015年6月共74例在上海市微创外科临床医学中心进行腹腔镜结直肠癌根治术病例,按照随机数字表法分为2d高清腹腔镜组及3d腹腔镜组。2d高清腹腔镜组共38例,其中男性20例、女性18例,中位年龄为60.5岁(46-83岁);3d腹腔镜组共36例,其中男性16例、女性20例,中位年龄为62岁(37-84岁)。38例2d腹腔镜组患者中有12例腹腔镜右半结肠癌根治术,4例腹腔镜左半结肠癌根治术,1例腹腔镜横结肠癌根治术,2例腹腔镜乙状结肠癌根治术,17例腹腔镜腹腔镜根治性直肠前切除(其中3例行末端回肠造口术),2例腹腔镜腹会阴联合直肠癌根治术。36例3d腹腔镜患者中15例腹腔镜右半结肠癌根治术,3例腹腔镜左半结肠癌根治术,1例腹腔镜横结肠癌根治术,3例腹腔镜乙状结肠癌根治术,10例腹腔镜腹腔镜根治性直肠前切除(其中5例行末端回肠造口术),4例腹腔镜腹会阴联合直肠癌根治术。观察指标包括两部分:(1)临床相关数据:患者一般情况、手术相关资料、术后恢复相关资料、术后病理;(2)针对手术医师的主观问卷调查表:问卷设计参考主观视频评价方法iTUR BT500及iTU—R BT.1438。结果:(1)临床相关数据:所有病例均成功接受手术,无术中严重并发症和手术死亡发生,无中转开腹手术。2d腹腔镜组平均手术时间为153.3±54.9min,平均术中出血为117.9±102.5ml,平均排气时间为2.3±0.9d,平均住院天数为9.6±7.8d;3d腹腔镜组平均手术时间为152.9±48.3min(p=0.973),平均术中出血为100.3±66.3ml(p=0.386),平均排气时间为2.1±0.8d(p=0.228),平均住院天数为8.1±3.2d(p=0.289)。(2)主观问卷调查结果:术后主刀、一助及扶镜手在术后2小时内填写完成术后调查问卷,共85份,其中2d腹腔镜组32份,3d腹腔镜组为53份,调查结果提示2d腹腔镜组双眼疲劳度4.6±0.5分(5分满分),双眼眩晕度4.9±0.7分,视野及视角操控协调度4.7±0.6分,纵深感3.9±0.8分;3d腹腔镜组双眼疲劳度4.3±0.8分(p=0.038),双眼眩晕度4.5±0.7分(p=0.000),视野及视角操控协调度4.2±0.8分(p=0.024),纵深感4.4±0.7分(p=0.003)。术后2d腹腔镜组有1例腹腔镜腹腔镜根治性直肠前切除及1例腹腔镜右半结肠癌根治术出现吻合口漏;3d腹腔镜组有1例腹腔镜腹会阴联合直肠癌根治术出现会阴切口感染。以上患者予对症治疗后均好转,无行二次手术患者。结论:2d腹腔镜系统与3d腹腔镜系统在手术操作相似,两者手术后临床短期疗效,肿瘤根治程度相当;3d腹腔镜较2d腹腔镜系统眩晕感、双眼疲劳度明显,视野及视角操控协调度相对较差,而纵深感明显优于2d腹腔镜系统。进一步研究尚需病例的积累与远期疗效的观察。

CHEMiCAL PRETREATMENTS OF THE SURFACE OF WC-15wt%Co WiTH diAMONd COATiNGS

diamond films were deposited on the cemented carbide WC-15%Co substrates by a hot-filament chemical vapor deposition (HF CVd) reactor. The substrate surfaces were chemically pretreated by the following two-step etching method: first using Murakami reagent for 1-3 min, and second using an HNO3:HCl=1:1 solution for 10-40 min. it is indicated that the Co content of the substrate surfaces could be reduced from 15% to 0.81-6.04% within the etching depth of 5-10μm, the surface roughness of the substrates was increased up to Ra=1.0μm, and the substrates hardness was decreased from 89.0 HRA to 83.0 HRA after the two-step etching. it is observed that the morphologies of the diamond films on the WC-15%wt Co substrates emerge in various shapes. The indentation testing shows that the good adhesion between diamond film and the substrate after HF CVd deposition could be obtained.

Mercury Concentration Profile in Sediment Cores of a Tropical Lagoon under high Anthropogenic Activities around an Urban City—Abidjan, Côte d’ivoire

The present study focuses on the quantification of mercury in sediment cores from Cocody, Banco, Koumassi and Milliardaires bays in Abidjan, Côte d’ivoire. it aims at assessing the state of mercury contamination of the lagoon bottom using dMA-80 (direct Mercury Analyser). The automatic analyzer dMA-80 mercury is an innovative instrument for the analysis of mercury at very low content in solid and liquid samples in five minutes, without requiring any prior steps of pretreatment wet. The results showed, according to the lithological description of different bays, that the cored sediments consist of mud, sand, sandy mud or muddy sand with occasional shells. in addition, our results showed the presence of mercury in the sediments of the lagoon bottom at a degree of contamination that varies from moderate to very high according to the calculated contamination factor (CF) values. The highest contamination was observed in Cocody Bay at the surface with a contamination factor of 7.5, while the lowest contamination was observed in Milliardaires Bay at the water-sediment interface with a contamination factor of 1.67. in addition, mercury concentrations compared to sediment guide values (SQGs) reveal that these sediments mostly show occasional biological effects but no toxicity except Koumassi core (sediments at 20 cm depth). Also, dredging, hydrodynamics have probably impacted the mercury content. The depositional environment of mercury metal is therefore a limiting factor for its fate in the aquatic environment.

Evaluation of Hemostatic and Antihemolytic Effects of Aqueous Extract of Garcinia kola (Clusiaceae) Fresh Seeds

Objectives: Garcinia kola seeds (EAgk) (Clusiaceae) contain coagulant components use to pretreat aquaculture wastewater in Nigeria. This work was undertaken to assess the effects of EAgk on blood coagulation because of its contents. Methods: Five groups of four rats of both sexes (200 ± 5 g) received orally distilled water, phytomenadione (15 mg/kg b.w.) and garcinia kola seeds extract (250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg b.w.) for four days and after this period, bleeding time was measured by tail hemorrhage model. Activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) and platelet count were determined by coagulometer and hematological analyzer respectively. Blood red cells protection of EAgk was measured by the methods of 2,2’-Azobis(2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride (AAPH)-induced hemolysis and inhibition of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (dPPH) radical and hydrogen peroxide. Results: EAgk at 1000 mg/kg b.w. induced a significant decrease in bleeding time from 420 ± 27.3 s to 157.5 ± 18.9 s. The platelet count of group of rat treated with EAgk (1000 mg/kg b.w.) increased significantly (p 0.05, n = 4). EAgk inhibited hemolysis, dPPH radical and hydrogen peroxide with iC50 values of 1.02 ± 0.2;3.2 × 10?2 ± 0.12 and 1.01 ± 0.5 mg/mg respectively. Conclusions: EAgk exhibits hemostatic effects, which could justify the presence of coagulant components in the extract. Erythrocytes’ protective activity of Garcinia kola seeds may be due to free radicals and hydrogen peroxide inhibition.

Cd4^(+)T cells play major roles in the adaptive immune system,which requires antigen recognition,costimulation,and cytokines for its elaborate *** studies have provided new insight into the importance of the supramolecular activation cluster(SMAC),which comprises concentric circles and is involved in the amplification of Cd4^(+)T cell ***,the underlying mechanism of SMAC formation remains poorly ***,we performed single-cell RNA sequencing of Cd4^(+)T cells left unstimulated and stimulated with anti-Cd3 and anti-Cd28 antibodies to identify novel proteins involved in their *** found that intraflagellar transport 20(iFT20),previously known as cilia-forming protein,was upregulated in antibody-stimulated Cd4^(+)T cells compared to unstimulated Cd4^(+)T *** also found that iFT20 interacted with tumor susceptibility gene 101(TSG101),a protein that endocytoses ubiquitinated T-cell *** interaction between iFT20 and TSG101 promoted SMAC formation,which led to amplification of AKT-mTOR ***,iFT20-deficient Cd4^(+)T cells showed SMAC malformation,resulting in reduced Cd4^(+)T cell proliferation,aerobic glycolysis,and cellular ***,mice with T-cell-specific iFT20 deficiency exhibited reduced allergen-induced airway ***,our data suggest that the iFT20-TSG101 axis regulates AKT-mTOR signaling via SMAC formation.
