In this paper, a new hydromatrix power wheels generation unit is presented. This presented hydromatrix power unit is aimed to convert the water movement in the main river branches into electrical power. It is found that the generated power based on the proposed hydromatrix power can be generated about 5 GW/h in Egypt. The proposed hydromatrix power unit based on the under shot water wheel type and the generated electrical power using this proposed unit is calculated at head;difference equal to 1 meter is presented.

Concentration of Cadmium, Copper, Lead, Zinc and Mercury were determined in the muscles, gills and liver of ten fish species (Epinephelus areolatus, Epinephelus radiates, Anthias squamipinnis, Plectorhinchus chaetodonoides, Snubnose emperor, Dicentrarchus labrax, Acanthopagrus bifasciatus, lutjanus kasmira, lutjanus ehrenbergii and Acanthurus gahhm) as well as three specimens of crustaceans (Metapenaeus dalli, Panulirus penicillatus and Portunus petagicus) and two Specimens of squids (Parateuthis tunicate and Chtenopteryx sicula) collected from Jeddah coastal water during 2014. The obtained results declared that, the average concentrations of heavy metals were as follows: Cd (0.098, 0.20, 0.106), Cu (0.358, 0.327, 1.536), Pb (0.3, 0.257, 0.196), Zn (3.00, 7.390, 4.999) μg/g wet weight in the muscle, gills and liver, respectively. While, the concentration of Hg was invariably undetectable in all samples of different organs of the collected fish species. The average concentration of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and Hg in the soft part of the investigated crustaceans (Metapenaeus dalli, Panulirus penicillatus and Portunus petagicus) and squids (Parateuthis tunicate and Chtenopteryx sicula) were relatively higher compared with the muscle tissues in the examined fish species. The results of bioconcentration factor (BCFs) indicated that among examined metals Zn was the most readily absorbed by fish and the highest BAFs for examined fish species were determined in gill of Snubnose emperor.

Performance Evaluation of One-Way Concrete Slabs Reinforced with New Developed GFRP Bars

The incorporation of fiber-reinforced-polymer (FRP) bars in construction as a replacement to steel bars provides a superior material which is capable to overcome corrosion problems. However, serviceability requirements are important issues to be considered in the design of concrete elements reinforced with glass-FRP (GFRP) bars which are known to have larger deflections and wider crack widths as well as weaker bond compared with steel reinforced concrete. As a solution to this problem, square GFRP bars are proposed. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation that was performed, in which newly developed square and circular GFRP bars were fabricated in the lab. Also, the GFRP bars were tested and used to reinforce concrete slabs. A total of nine full-scale GFRP-reinforced concrete (RC) one-way slabs were constructed, tested and analyzed, considering the most influencing parameters such as the cross sectional shape of GFRP bars, reinforcement ratio, the concrete characteristics strength, and adding polypropylene fibers to the concrete mixture. The test results were showed that, the tested slabs with GFRP square bars improved the deflection and cracking behavior as well as the ultimate load.

The structural, dielectric and magnetic properties of pure and Fe-Co co-doped Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3, (Ba(1-x)SrxTiO3, where (x = 0.10) and (Ba0.9Sr0.1Ti(1-x-y)FexCoyO3), where (x = 0.1, y = 0) and (x = 0 and y = 0.10) and (x = 0.5, y = 0.5) in powder form, abbreviated as (BST) and (BST10FO), (BST10CO) and (BST5F5CO), respectively were prepared by a modified sol gel technique. Crystallization, surface morphology and electrical behavior of BST are improved by Fe3+ and Co2+ ions with optimized grain size. Phase identification by using X-ray diffraction and surface morphology will be studied by using transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscope imaging (SEM). The nano-scale presence and the formation of the tetragonal perovskite phase as well as the crystallinity were detected using the mentioned techniques. The dielectric properties of the prepared samples have been investigated as a function of temperature and frequency. The dielectric measurements are carried out in the frequency range of 42 Hz - 1 MHz, at temperature ranging between 25°C and 250°C. The results showed an abrupt decrease in the dielectric permittivity by increasing the frequency range. The magnetic hysteresis loop confirmed enhancement in the magnetization properties by co-doping with Fe3+-Co2+ ions. An increase in the saturation of the magnetization at room temperature was detected by decreasing the crystallite sizes of the prepared samples.

BiFe1-xCoxO3 (x = 0, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.1) symbolic as (BFO, BF3CO, BF5CO and BF10CO) in powder form has been prepared by sol-gel technique using ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as a chelating agent. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FTIR analysis showed rhombohedra distorted BiFeO3 structure with compressive lattice distortion induced by the Co substitution at Fe sites. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) shows irregular particles. The additive of cobalt oxide has led to grains refining giving the following crystallite sizes of 18 nm for BF5Co. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) study reveals that the samples morphology shows relatively uniform grain size distribution. The dielectric properties of BiFeO3 nano-particles in the frequency range of 1 up to 5 MHz at RT revealed that the A.C. conductivity of the prepared samples reaches its maximum value in BF5CO. By decreasing BiFeO3 particle size as a result of doping with different Co ion concentrations, an enhancement in magnetization and a simultaneous suppression in current leakage occurred. The remnant magnetization Mr of BiFe1-xCoxO3 (x = 0, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1) ceramics significantly enhanced, which provides potential applications in information storage.

Background: It is unknown whether stapling the mesh affects recurrence rate, incidence of neuralgia, and port-site hernia. We chose to fix it to the exterior reducing port size, cost and pain, at the same comparing this with traditional mesh stapling. Methods: We conducted a prospective trial for laparoscopic TAPP inguinal hernia repair on 120 patients in which we fixed the mesh to the anterior abdominal wall using either two prolene threads that passed to the exterior and tied in place or traditional mesh stapling. Results: The operative time is ranged from 35 to 70 minutes for external fixation, 30 to 60 minutes for mesh stapling, and 4 to 51 months for follow-up, and no recurrence occurred in both groups during the procedure. Two cases with post TAPP pain in mesh stapling patients are discussed with reduction of the cost and port size in external fixation patients. Conclusion: It is not necessary to secure the mesh during laparoscopic TAPP inguinal hernia repair from the interior and it is fixed only to the exterior allowing a reduction in size of the ports and considerable reduction in cost with elimination of TAPP associated post operative pain.

Lack of Rbl1/p107 Effects on Cell Proliferation and Maturation in the Inner Ear

Loss of postnatal mammalian auditory hair cells (HCs) is irreversible. Earlier studies have highlighted the importance of the Retinoblastoma family of proteins (pRBs) (i.e., Rb1, Rbl1/p107, and Rbl2/p130) in the auditory cells’ proliferation and emphasized our lack of information on their specific roles in the auditory system. We have previously demonstrated that lack of Rbl2/p130 moderately affects HCs’ and supporting cells’ (SCs) proliferation. Here, we present evidence supporting multiple roles for Rbl1/p107 inthe developing and mature mouse organ of Corti (OC). Like other pRBs, Rbl1/p107 is expressed in the OC, particularly in the Hensen’s and Deiters’ cells. Moreover, Rbl1/p107 impacts maturation and postmitotic quiescence of HCs and SCs, as evidenced by enhanced numbers of these cells and the presence of dividing cells in the postnatal Rbl1/p107-/-OC. These findings were further supported by microarray and bioinformatics analyses, suggesting downregulation of several bHLH molecules, as well as activation of the Notch/Hes/Hey signaling pathway in homozygous Rbl1/p107 mutant mice. Physiological assessments and detection of ectopic HC marker expression in postnatal spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) provided evidence for incomplete cell maturation and differentiation in Rbl1/p107﹣/﹣OC. Collectively, the present study highlights an important role for Rbl1/p107 inOC cell differentiation and maturation, which is distinct from other pRBs.

Concordance of HER-2/Neu over Expression with Steroid Receptor Status in Female Breast Cancers

HER-2/neu over expression is associated with increased tumor aggressiveness, increased rates of recurrence, and increased mortality in node positive patients. It is amplified and/or over expressed in approximately 30% of female breast cancers. This study was to detect the relation between HER-2/neu over expression and steroid hormone receptor status. It was conducted at Cairo and Bani Suif university hospitals between February 2012 to February 2014. HER-2/neu over expression was found to be positive in thirteen patients (41%) out of the thirty two patients included in the study, more positive (52%) HER-2/neu was found among estrogen receptor (ER) positive patients, on the other hand, only 18% positive HER-2/neu was detected among ER negative patients. This difference was statistically significant (P < 0.03). The same outcome was with progesterone receptors (PR) and HER-2/neu with statistically significant difference also (P = 0.02). Conclusion: HER-2/neu over expression is strongly related to ER and PR, this was more evident in negative steroid receptors status. The failure of treatment in positive steroid receptors could be explained by HER-2/neu positivity.

Cu-Ge ferrite was prepared using the standard ceramic method. The creep rate of polycrystalline Cu1+xGexFe2-2xO4 ferrite has been measured as a function of time at room temperature. It is found that the indentation length increases with the increase of both time and applied load. A regime of individual creep curves is observed for the first and second stages. It is not possible to record the third stage of the curve as usually happened in an ordinary creep test, because fracture of the samples does not occur. The slope is found to increase with increasing germanium and copper content in the steady state region. The high value of n (stress exponent factor) indicates that the dislocation creep is the dominate mechanism. The porosity arrangements developed within the specimens were examined using optical microscope. The results are discussed with regard to models describing the role of the steady state creep rate of metals. The morphology of the samples shows that the porosity is increased by increasing both copper and germanium ions.
