Accumulation of float coal dust(FCD)in underground mines is an explosion hazard that affects all underground coal mine *** this hazard is addressed by the application of rock dust,inadequate rock dusting practices can leave miners exposed to an explosion *** at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)have focused on developing a water curtain that removes FCD from the airstream,thereby reducing the buildup of FCD in mine *** this study,the number and spacing of the active sprays in the water curtain were varied to determine the optimal configuration to obtain peak knockdown efficiency(KE)while minimizing water consumption.

The isothermal low cycle fatigue (LCF) and thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) behaviour of a Ni-base superalloy was investigated. The results show that temperature plays an important role in both LCF and TMF. The alloy shows the lowest LCF fatigue resistance in the intermediate temperature range (～760℃). For strain-controlled TMF, in-phase (IP) cycling is more damaging than out-phase (OP) cycling. The high tempera- ture exposure in the TMF cycling influences the deformation behaviour at the low temperature. LCF lives at different temperatures, and IP and OP TMF lives are successfully correlated by using the hysteresis parameter Δσ·Δε_p.

Novel oral microbeads were developed based on a biopolymer–drug conjugate of doxorubicin(DOX) conjugated with thiolated pectin via reducible disulfide bonds. The microbeads were fabricated by ionotropic gelation with cations such as Al3+, Ca2+ and Zn2+. The results showed that using zinc acetate can produce the strongest microbeads with spherical ***, the microbeads prepared from thiolated pectin–DOX conjugate were very soft and irregular in shape. To produce more spherical microbeads with suitable strength, the native pectin was then added to the formulations. The particle size of the microbeads ranged from 0.87 to 1.14 mm. The morphology of the microbeads was characterized by optical and scanning electron microscopy. DOX was still in crystalline form when used in preparing the microbeads, as confirmed by powder X-ray diffractometry. Drug release profiles showed that the microbeads containing thiolated pectin–DOX conjugate exhibited reduction-responsive character;in reducing environments, the thiolated pectin–DOX conjugate could uncouple resulting from a cleavage of the disulfide linkers and consequently release the DOX. The best-fit release kinetics of the microbeads containing thiolated pectin–DOX conjugate, in the medium without reducing agent, fit the Korsmeyer–Peppas model while those in the medium with reducing agent fit a zero-order release model. These results suggested that the microbeads containing thiolated pectin–DOX conjugate may be a promising platform for cancer-targeted delivery of DOX, exploiting the reducing environment typically found in tumors.

AIM: To evaluate the diagnostic capability of calprotectin in ascitic fluid for detecting a polymorphonuclear (PMN) cell count > 250/μL ascites. METHODS: In this prospective observational study, a total of 130 ascites samples were analysed from 71 consecutive patients referred for paracentesis. Total and differential leukocyte cell counts were determined manually with a Neubauer chamber and gentianviolet stain. Calprotectin was measured in 1 mL ascetic fluid by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and a point-of-care (POC) lateral flow assay with the Quantum Blue reader (Bühlmann Laboratories). All measurements were carried out in a central laboratory by senior personnel blinded to patient history. A PMN count > 250/μL was the primary endpoint of the study. The diagnostic value of ascitic calprotectin measurement was assessed by comparing to the final diagnosis of each patient that had been adjudicated by investigators blinded to calprotectin values. rESULTS: The PMN count was > 250/μL in 19 samples (14.6%) from 15 patients (21.1%) and varied widely among the study population (range 10-19 800/mL and 1-17 820/mL, respectively). Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) was the final diagnosis in four patients (5.6%). All patients with PMN ≤ 250/μL had negative bacterial culture. PMN count was elevated in five patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis, three with lymphoma, one with neuroendocrine carcinoma, and two with secondary peritonitis due to abdominal perforation. PMN cell counts correlated with ascitic calprotectin values (Spearman's rho; r = 0.457 for ELISA, r = 0.473 for POC). A considerable range of ascitic calprotectin concentrations was detected by ELISA [median 0.43 μg/mL, interquartile range (IQr) 0.23-1.23 (range 0.10-14.93)] and POC [median 0.38 μg/mL, IQr 0.38-0.56 (range 0.38-13.31)]. Ascitic calprotectin levels were higher in samples with PMN > 250/μL, by both ELISA [median (IQr) 2.48 μg/mL (1.61-3.65) vs 0.10 μg/mL (0.10-0.36), P < 0.001] and POC

With an aim to improve the transient stability of a DFIG wind farm penetrated multimachine power system(MPN),an adaptive fractional integral terminal sliding mode power control(AFITSMPC)strategy has been proposed for the unified power flow controller(UPFC),which is compensating the *** proposed AFITSMPC controls the dq-axis series injected voltage,which controls the admittance model(AM)of the *** a result the power output of the DFIG stabilizes which helps in maintaining the equilibrium between the electrical and mechanical power of the nearby *** the rotor angular deviation of the respective generators gets recovered,which significantly stabilizes the *** proposed AFITSMPC for the admittance model of the UPFC has been validated in a DFIG wind farm penetrated 2 area 4 machine power system in the MATLAB *** robustness and efficacy of the proposed control strategy of the UPFC,in contrast to the conventional PI control is vindicated under a number of intrinsic operating conditions,and the results analyzed are satisfactory.
