Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is one of the most dreadful neurodegenerative diseases leading to death within 1-5 years after symptom *** majority of ALS cases are sporadic(sALS),while the remaining 5-10%are familial(fALS).Genetic discoveries have identified ALScausative mutations in more than 30 genes so far(Chia et al.,2018).Indeed,the four most common mutations observed in ALS genes in Europe are the hexanucleotide expansion repeat in Chromosome9 Open Reading Frame 72 (C9ORF72),Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1),tra nsactive response DNA Binding protein 43kDa (TARDBP)and fused in sa rcoma (FUS).

This paper presents two generalized modified OS-CFAR detectors and an automatic censoring technique. For these two new OS-CFAR detectors, analytic expressions of the false alarm rate, the detection probabilities and the measure of ADT under the Swerling 2 assumption are obtained. Their detection performances are analyzed in homogeneous background and in the presence of strong interfering targets, and they are compared with several previously proposed CFARs.

Endothelial dysfunction is implicated in a variety of cardiovascular diseases although the detailed mechanisms are not yet completely understood. A relationship has been suggested to exist between inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. TNF-α serves as one of the most important pro-inflammatory cytokines. The main objectives of the present study were to explore the effect of PKC-ζ on TNF-α-impaired endothelial function as well as the underlying mechanisms. Acetylcho-line-induced endothelium-dependent vasodilation of mouse thoracic aorta stimulated by TNF-α was initially determined. PKC-ζ deficient mice and the specific inhibitor of NADPH oxidase were respectively applied to elucidate their roles in TNF-α-induced endothelial dysfunction. In vitro superoxide generation in HAECs was detected by DHE staining after administration of TNF-α. Meanwhile, the regulatory p47phox subunit of NADPH oxidase was evaluated by Western blotting and RT-PCR. The results showed that TNF-α conspicuously impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation and the impairment was attenuated by either depleting PKC-ζ or inhibiting NADPH oxidase. In vitro TNF-α increased superoxide production and p47phox expression in HAECs, and such increases could be ameliorated by the specific PKC-ζ inhibitor. Our findings suggest that superoxide over-production triggered by PKC-ζ-dependent NADPH oxidase activation contributes to TNF-α-induced endothelial dysfunction.

Light-induced switching of drug activity can be used to realize spatio-temporal control of biological activity in cells and in *** our study of light-switchable derivatives of immunosuppressive drug cyclosporin A(CsA)in their inhibition of protein phosphatase calcineurin(CaN),we have discovered that 7-methyl-6-thioguanosine(MESG)inhibits CaN under light irradiation through a photo-crosslinking *** inhibition has shown selectivity over other enzymes such as phosphatase PP2A,protease chymotrypsin,and cyclophilin 18,the receptor protein for *** discovery could pave the way to discover new covalent inhibitors for protein phosphtase,to design immunophilin-independent CaN inhibitors,and to design new light controlled inhibitors to modulate signal transduction.

AIM： To investigate the sonographic features at time of diagnosis and follow-up in patients with neutropenic enterocolitis. METHODS： The sonographic findings in 14 patients with neutropenic enterocolitis were described and evaluated regarding symptoms and clinical outcome. RESULTS： In all patients with neutropenic enterocolitis, the ileocoecal region was involved with wall thickening 〉10 mm. A transmural inflammatory pattern, hypervascularity of the thickened bowel wall and free abdominal fluid were the common findings. The sonographically revealed thickness of the bowel wall was associated with lethal outcome （P〈0.03）. In the 11 surviving patients, the improvement of clinical symptoms was accompanied by progressive reduction of intestinal wall thickness. CONCLUSION： High-end sonography of the bowel is a helpful tool for diagnosis, assessment of prognosis and follow-up of patients with neutropenic enterocolitis. The ultrasonographically revealed bowel thickness reflects the severity and the course of the disease, and seems to be predictive for the clinical outcome.

Starting with a discussion of development concepts which were applied in practice and which followed the developmentalist paradigm the expansion of traffic infrastructure in colonial and post-colonial periods is presented for the High Asian mountain rim. Selective railways and roads are the major feature of this development, which aimed first on serving the convenience of hill station visitors and followed strategic considerations later on. This bias between regional planning and implementation remains a characteristic feature. At the same time traffic infrastructure without asphalt roads is important for the mountain areas, thus breaking up the strong correlation between development and asphalt roads.

Talc is a layered hydrous silicate mineral that plays a vital role in transporting water into Earth’s interior and is crucial for explaining geophysical observations in subduction zone *** this study,we explored the structure,equation of state,and elasticity of both triclinic and monoclinic talc under high pressures up to 18 GPa using first principles simulations based on density functional theory corrected for dispersive *** results indicate that principal components of the full elastic constant tensor C_(11) and C_(22),shear components C_(66),and several off-diagonal components show anomalous pressure *** non-monotonic pressure dependence of elastic constant components is likely related to the structural changes and is often manifested in a polytypic transition from a low-pressure polytype talc-I to a high-pressure polytype talc-Ⅱ.The polytypic transition of talc occurs at pressures within its thermodynamic ***,the bulk and shear elastic moduli show no anomalous *** study also shows that talc has low velocity,extremely high anisotropy,and anomalously high V_(P)/V_(S) ratio,thus making it a potential candidate mineral phase that could readily explain unusually high V_(P)/V_(S) ratio and large shear wave splitting delays as observed from seismological studies in many subduction systems.

This paper describes the use of overlapping grids for the calculation of flow around single and multiple-particle configurations at the micro scale. The basic equations for calculation are those for conservation of mass and momentum which are solved using a common Finite-Volume formulation. The hydrodynamic particle-particle and particle-wall interaction can be calculated by using an overlapping or Chimera grid scheme. With the grid structuring procedure it is possible to use simple and structured grids around the particles and the overall main grid geometry. The particle grids are lapped over the main grid such that they can move independently after each time step without remeshing the whole geometry. The paper gives results for the validation of the code developed for general test cases, for a rotating ellipsoid in simple shear flow, the flow around particles attached to a wall, the motion of a particle in the vicinity of a wall and some results for the flow through a packed bed configuration.
