Sonographic signs of neutropenic enterocolitis

AIM： To investigate the sonographic features at time of diagnosis and follow-up in patients with neutropenic enterocolitis. METHODS： The sonographic findings in 14 patients with neutropenic enterocolitis were described and evaluated regarding symptoms and clinical outcome. RESULTS： In all patients with neutropenic enterocolitis, the ileocoecal region was involved with wall thickening 〉10 mm. A transmural inflammatory pattern, hypervascularity of the thickened bowel wall and free abdominal fluid were the common findings. The sonographically revealed thickness of the bowel wall was associated with lethal outcome （P〈0.03）. In the 11 surviving patients, the improvement of clinical symptoms was accompanied by progressive reduction of intestinal wall thickness. CONCLUSION： High-end sonography of the bowel is a helpful tool for diagnosis, assessment of prognosis and follow-up of patients with neutropenic enterocolitis. The ultrasonographically revealed bowel thickness reflects the severity and the course of the disease, and seems to be predictive for the clinical outcome.

The cellular prion protein(PrP~C)is a truly remarkable cell surface ***(i)its broad expression pattern and(ii)particularly high levels in the nervous system,(iii)its critical involvement in fatal neurodegenerative diseases affecting different mammalian species,(iv)its structurally diverging bipartite buildup,(v)its high degree of evolutionary conservation and(vi)a variety of–at least suggested–functions despite(vii)a surprising lack of major phenotypic deficits when absent(as in respective knock-out animals),PrPC has raised considerable research interest over the last four decades.

Talc is a layered hydrous silicate mineral that plays a vital role in transporting water into Earth’s interior and is crucial for explaining geophysical observations in subduction zone *** this study,we explored the structure,equation of state,and elasticity of both triclinic and monoclinic talc under high pressures up to 18 GPa using first principles simulations based on density functional theory corrected for dispersive *** results indicate that principal components of the full elastic constant tensor C_(11) and C_(22),shear components C_(66),and several off-diagonal components show anomalous pressure *** non-monotonic pressure dependence of elastic constant components is likely related to the structural changes and is often manifested in a polytypic transition from a low-pressure polytype talc-I to a high-pressure polytype talc-Ⅱ.The polytypic transition of talc occurs at pressures within its thermodynamic ***,the bulk and shear elastic moduli show no anomalous *** study also shows that talc has low velocity,extremely high anisotropy,and anomalously high V_(P)/V_(S) ratio,thus making it a potential candidate mineral phase that could readily explain unusually high V_(P)/V_(S) ratio and large shear wave splitting delays as observed from seismological studies in many subduction systems.

Although presurgical evaluation of patients with pharamacoresistent focal epilepsies provides essential information for successful epilepsy surgery,there is still a need for further *** of noninvasive electrophysiological recording and analysis techniques offer additional information based on interictal and ictal epileptic *** this review,we provide an overview on the application of ictal magnetoencephalography(MEG).The results of a literature research for published interictal/ictal MEG findings and experiences with own cases are demonstrated and *** MEG may provide added value in comparison to interictal *** results may be more focal and closer to the invasively determined seizure onset *** some patients without clear interictal findings,ictal MEG could provide correct *** recording and analysis techniques facilitate ictal ***,extended recording durations,movement and artifacts still represent practical *** MEG may provide added value regarding the localization of the seizure onset zone but depends on the selection of patients and the application of optimal analysis techniques.

During a survey on corticolous Dothideomycetes,several collections with ascospores matching the genera Asteromassaria and Stigmatomassaria(Pleomassariaceae,Pleosporales)were revealed from dead corticated twigs of Acer,Carpinus and *** morphological examination showed that their ascomata were apothecial,with a hamathecium consisting of septate,branched paraphyses,which are apically swollen at *** collections were cultured and sequenced,and a blast search of their nuc 28S rDNA sequences revealed dothideomycetous affiliation,but without a close match to a specific family or *** analyses of a multigene matrix containing a representative selection of Dothideomycetes from four genes(nuc 18S rDNA,nuc 28S rDNA,rpb2 and tef1)revealed placement within Dothideomycetes but without a supported familial or ordinal *** on the phylogenetic analyses and morphological investigations,the new genera Asterodiscus and Stigmatodiscus,with the two new species *** and ***,are described and illustrated,and placed in the new family Stigmatodiscaceae and new order Stigmatodiscales.

Noeggerathiales are an extinct group of sporebearing plants of uncertain systematic position that are known from Carboniferous and Permian age Euramerican and Cathaysian floras that occurred in present-day Europe,North America,and East *** order Noeggerathiales includes over 50 species of more than 20 fossil genera,but their paleoecology is not well understood *** this group had been found only in extrabasinal floras or those inhabiting clastic *** have never been recorded in coal ball ***,it is up to now uncertain whether this group has contributed to the formation of *** investigations of an Early Permian peat-forming flora of the Taiyuan Formation near Wuda,Inner Mongolia,which was preserved in a volcanic ash fall has provided evidence that noeggerathialean plants not only existed in the peat-forming vegetation but could even be the dominant group in some areas of the coal *** Noeggerathiales in this particular peat-forming forest include Tingia unita,Paratingia wudensis,and a new species of *** well-preserved specimens indicate that these noeggerathialean plants are small trees with a canopy of compound leaves and strobili near the top of an unbranched(monocaulous)stem.

α-Synucleinopathies,such as Parkinson’s disease(PD),dementia with Lewy bodies(DLb)and multiple system atrophy,are a class of neurodegenerative diseases exhibiting intracellular inclusions of misfoldedα-synuclein(αSyn),referred to as Lewy bodies or oligodendroglial cytoplasmic inclusions(Papp-Lantos bodies).Even though the specific cellular distribution of aggregatedαSyn differs in PD and DLb patients,both groups show a significant pathological overlap,raising the discussion of whether PD and DLb are the same or different *** clinical investigation,we will focus in addition on methodologies,such as protein seeding assays(real-time quaking-induced conversion),to discriminate between different types ofα-*** approach relies on the seeding conversion properties of misfoldedαSyn,supporting the hypothesis that different conformers of misfoldedαSyn may occur in different types ofα-*** the pathological processes influencing the disease progression and phenotype,provoked by differentαSyn conformers,will be important for a personalized medical treatment in future.
