Background: Colorectal cancer surgery in extrem. elderly population (380 years) is a growing problem.and a subject in question. Experiences and results in this scenario are lim.ted. m.thods: m.dical records of patients?380 years old hospitalized in General Surgery Departm.nt in Vega Baja Hospital between January 1st 2008 and Decem.er 31st 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) were selected. Data regarding com.rbidities, treatm.nt perform.d, com.lications and survival were collected. Results: 95 patients (74 colon, 21 rectum. were identified: m.dian age 83.0 years (80 - 93), 64.2% m.les. 93.7% of patients were operated on: m.dian hospital and post-operative stay of 11 and 9 days, respectively;curative intention surgery 82.1%. 4.2% of patients were treated with interventionist procedures, and 2.1% of patients in a conservative way. 17.9% and 4.2% of patients cam. up with early and late com.lications, respectively. Early and late m.rtality occurred in 9.5% and 3.2% of patients, respectively. By m.rch 2014, with a m.dian follow up of 43.8 m.nths, m.dian overall survival for colorectal cancer patients was 2.7 years (95%IC, 2.0 - 3.2). Univariaye Cox Regresion analysis revealed the presence of cardiom.opathy (p = 0.024), the presence of chornic kidney disease (p = 0.025), the presence of com.rbidities (vs absence) (0.026), the num.er of com.rbidities (0.034), type of adm.ssion (p = 0.001), treatm.nt with surgery (p = 0.001) and the incidence of early (p = 0.004) or late com.lications (p = 0.023) associated to overall survival with statically significance. m.ltivariate Cox Regression analysis showed num.er of com.rbidities (HR = 1.104;95%CI: 0.851 - 1.431;p = 0.456), treatm.nt with surgery (HR = 4.928;95%CI: 1.815 - 13.385;p = 0.002), program.ed adm.ssion into hospital (HR = 2.316;95%CI: 1.298 - 4.133;p = 0.004), and the incidence of late com.lications (HR = 4.629;95%CI: 1.279 - 16.750;p = 0.020) independently associated with o

Harnessing the frequency dim.nsion in integrated photonics offers key advantages in term. of scalability, noise resilience, parallelization, and com.atibility with telecom.m.ltiplexing *** ring resonators have been used to generate frequency-entangled states through spontaneous four-wave m.xing. However, state-of-the-art integrated resonators are lim.ted by trade-offs am.ng size,spectral separation, and efficient photon pair generation. We have developed silicon ring resonators with a footprint below 0.05 m.2providing m.0} than 70 frequency channels separated by 21 GHz. We exploit the narrow frequency separation to parallelize and independently control 34 single qubit-gates with a single set of three off-the-shelf electro-optic devices. We fully characterize 17 frequency-bin m.xim.lly entangled qubit pairs by perform.ng quantum.state tom.graphy. We dem.nstrate for the first tim., we believe, a fully connected five-user quantum.network in the frequency dom.in. These results are a step towards a generation of quantum.circuits im.lem.nted with scalable silicon photonics technology, for applications in quantum.com.uting and secure com.unications.

The goal of this study is to exam.ne the energetic,entransy,and exergetic m.thodologies em.loyed to estim.te the ideal insulation thickness for construction walls in term. of cost and ecological *** achieve these goals,the life cycle cost analysis-based insulating thicknesses of the various m.thods are evaluated along with the overall costs,yearly cost reductions,and total *** fuel consum.tion,CO_(2) em.ssions,and ecological effects are then com.ared using an environm.ntal analysis based on the three *** savings of hollow concrete brick(HCB),com.ressed stabilized earth brick(CSEB),and sundried earth brick(SEB)walls are evaluated along with the insulation thicknesses in term. of cost and ecological *** a result,it is determ.ned that the exergetic technique is better suited for optim.zing insulating *** CSEB,SEB,and HCB walls,the econom.c ideal insulation thicknesses are 0.01 m.0.016 m.and 0.02 m.with yearly financial savings of 5$⋅m.(-2),7.5$⋅m.(-2),and 9$⋅m.(-2).For CSEB,SEB,and HCB walls,accordingly,the ecological optim.l insulation thicknesses are 0.023 m.0.032 m.and 0.040 m.with net savings of exergetic ecological im.act equal to 59 m.ts⋅m.(-2),55 m.ts⋅m.(-2),and 51 m.ts⋅m.(-2).

In this study, we prove the of existence of solutions of a convolution Volterra integral equation in the space of the Lebesgue integrable function on the set of positive real num.ers and with the standard norm.defined on it. An operator P was assigned to the convolution integral operator which was later expressed in term. of the superposition operator and the nonlinear operator. Given a ball Br belonging to the space L it was established that the operator P m.ps the ball into itself. The Hausdorff m.asure of noncom.actness was then applied by first proving that given a set m. B r the set is bounded, closed, convex and nondecreasing. Finally, the Darbo fixed point theorem.was applied on the m.asure obtained from.the set E belonging to m. From.this application, it was observed that the conditions for the Darbo fixed point theorem.was satisfied. This indicated the presence of at least a fixed point for the integral equation which thereby im.lying the existence of solutions for the integral equation.
