Synthesis of coral-like structures of Pr-Yb co-doped YIG: Structural,optical, magnetic and antimicrobial properties

Coral-like structures of the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) compound were synthesized using the sol-gel method. Structural investigation certified the YIG cubic crystal structure formation, without any secondary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic radius of the dopant cations results in an expansion of the lattice parameter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc-O bond distances and decrease in the average crystallite size. Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) and Raman measurements are essential to testify the single-phase formation of YIG crystal structure and are observed changes in the stretching and vibrational modes, respectively. The morphological study, energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) spectra and textural properties show corallike structures, peaks associated with Pr^(3+) and Yb^(3+) atoms and the effect of dopants on surface area,diameter, and pore volume, respectively. The optical analysis from diffuse reflectance spectra witnessed an increase in the optical gap band, a decrease in Urbach energy and blue shift in the charge transfer,correlated with the expansion of the unit cell due to the dopant's insertion in the YIG structure. A typical ferrimagnetic behavior is exhibited by the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12)compound. The saturation magnetization(M_(s)), cubic anisotropy constant(K_(1)) and coercive field(H_(c)) increase with the Pr^(3+)cations content, as consequence of their magnetic nature and distribution around of Fe^(3+)ions due to the coexistence with the Yb^(3+). Finally, for the first time, antibacterial tests by mean of the direct contact method were performed for YIG co-doped with Pr^(3+)and Yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of Pr^(3+) cations favored the activity against S. aureus, therefore, a new biological property for YIG doped with rare earths is presented.

AIM To investigate the survival impact of clinicopathological factors, including pathological complete response(p CR) and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes(s TIL) levels according to subtypes, in breast cancer(BC) patients who received neo-adjuvant chemotherapy(NAC).METHODS We evaluated 435 BC patients who presented and received NAC at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplasicas from 2003 to 2014. s TIL was analyzed as the proportion of tumor stroma occupied by lymphocytes, and was prospectively evaluated on hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections of the preN AC core biopsy. p CR was considered in the absence of infiltrating cancer cells in primary tumor and axillary lymph nodes. Analysis of statistical association between clinical pathological features, s TIL, p CR and survival were carried out using SPSSvs19.RESULTS Median age was 49 years(range 24-84 years) and the most frequent clinical stage was ⅢB(58.3%). Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-enriched and(triple-negative) TN phenotype was found in 24.6%, 37.9%, 17.7% and 19.8%, respectively. p CR was observed in 11% and median percentage of s TIL was 40%(2%-95%) in the whole population. p CR was associated to Ct1-2(P = 0.045) and to high s TIL(P = 0.029) in the whole population. There was a slight trend towards significance for s TIL(P = 0.054) in Luminal A. s TIL was associated with grade Ⅲ(P < 0.001), no-Luminal A subtype(P < 0.001), RE-negative(P < 0.001), PgR-negative(P < 0.001), HER2-positive(P = 0.002) and p CR(P = 0.029) in the whole population. Longer disease-free survival was associated with grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ(P = 0.006), cN 0(P < 0.001), clinical stage Ⅱ(P = 0.004), ER-positive(P < 0.001), Pg R-positive(P < 0.001), luminal A(P < 0.001) and p CR(P = 0.002). Longer disease-free survival was associated with grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ in Luminal A(P < 0.001), N0-1 in Luminal A(P = 0.045) and TNBC(P = 0.01), clinical stage Ⅱ in Luminal A(P = 0.003) and TNBC(P = 0.038), and pC R in TNBC(P < 0.001). BACKGROUND Currently,the detection of PIK3CA mutations is of special interest in personalized medicine because it is frequently found in triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC).The PI3KCA mutation is an independent negative prognostic factor for survival in metastatic breast cancer,and its prognostic value in liquid biopsy as a biomarker of treatment and early relapse is under investigation,both for metastatic disease and neoadjuvant scenario with curative intent.CASE SUMMARY A 54-year-old female patient with TNBC clinical stage IIIA,who,after receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy(based on anthracyclines and taxanes),surgery,radiotherapy,and adjuvant capecitabine,was detected with a PI3KCA mutation in tissue and peripheral blood(ctDNA in liquid biopsy).After 10 mo,the patient had disease relapse of left cervical node disease.CONCLUSION The detection of PIK3CA mutation in TNBC after neoadjuvant treatment might be associated with early relapse or rapid disease progression.

AIM To determine influence of neoadjuvant-chemotherapy(NAC) over tumor-infiltrating-lymphocytes(TIL) intriple-negative-breast-cancer(TNBC).METHODS TILs were evaluated in 98 TNBC cases who came to Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplasicas from 2005 to 2010. Immunohistochemistry staining for CD3, CD4, CD8 and FOXP3 was performed in tissue microarrays(TMA) sections. Evaluation of H/E in full-face and immunohistochemistry in TMA sections was performed in pre and post-NAC samples. STATA software was used and P value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS Higher TIL evaluated in full-face sections from pre-NAC tumors was associated to pathologic-complete-response(pCR)(P = 0.0251) and outcome(P = 0.0334). TIL evaluated in TMA sections showed low level of agreement with full-face sections(ICC = 0.017-0.20) and was not associated to pCR or outcome. TIL in post-NAC samples were not associated to response or outcome. PostNAC lesions with pC R had similar TIL levels than those without pCR(P = 0.6331). NAC produced a TIL decrease in full-face sections(P < 0.0001). Percentage of TIL subpopulations was correlated with their absolute counts. Higher counts of CD3, CD4, CD8 and FOXP3 in pre-NAC samples had longer disease-free-survival(DFS). Higher counts of CD3 in pre-NAC samples had longer overallsurvival. Higher ratio of CD8/CD4 counts in pre-NAC was associated with pCR. Higher ratio of CD4/FOXP3 counts in pre-NAC was associated with longer DFS. Higher counts of CD4 in post-NAC samples were associated with pCR.CONCLUSION TIL in pre-NAC full-face sections in TNBC are correlated to longer survival. TIL in full-face differ from TMA sections, absolute count and percentage analysis of TIL subpopulation closely related.

Stroke is a physiological alteration associated with changes in blood flow that can result in sudden-onset cognitive impairment. It has a heterogenous clinical presentation with varying degrees of severity correlated with specific central nervous system zones or areas, and its prognosis is uncertain. This case study describes a 62-year-old male patient with acquired brain damage of the anterior cingulate cortex as a result of an ischemic event in the territory of the left anterior cerebral artery. Cognitive function was assessed using the neuropsychological executive function and frontal lobe test battery (BANFE-2) as well as other neuropsychological tests. The results show a profile of higher mental functions characterized by the presence of dysexecutive syndrome with marked behavioral alteration and diencephalic amnesia. .

Background: Neuroendocrine neoplasms are those that develop from a neuroendocrine cell. They most commonly affect the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and pancreas, being rare conditions in the female genital tract. When present, these neoplasms often manifest with nonspecific signs and symptoms such as pain, itching, swelling, single-focus lesions, bleeding, and enlargement of inguinal lymph nodes, in addition to the presence of progressively enlarging vulvar nodules. Consequently, the diagnostic investigation involves histopathological examination and confirmation through immunohistochemistry. Objective: To present a comprehensive understanding of this rarely studied pathology. The primary objective is to provide valuable insights that could aid in the future development of universally applicable treatment guidelines. Case Presentation: A 57-year-old female, with no prior comorbidities, menopause at 36, who presented with a left vulvar nodule accompanied by intense pain and swelling, later diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in the vulva. Conclusion: This case report highlights the importance of enhancing our knowledge regarding small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in the vulva, given its scarcity in medical literature. The information presented here underscores the need for standardized diagnostic and treatment approaches, paving the way for future consensus on managing this uncommon but challenging neoplasm.

BACKGROUND Breast cancer(BC)frequency in males is extremely low and tumor features vary from its female counterpart.Breast cancer clinical and pathological features differ by race in women.Tumor infiltrating lymphocyte(TIL)levels,mismatch repair(MMR)protein loss,androgen receptor(AR)expression,and PIK3CA gene mutations are predictive biomarkers of response to biological therapy in female BC.There is limited information about clinical and pathological features as well as predictive biomarkers in males of non-Caucasian races with BC.AIM To investigate clinicopathological features and biomarkers of BC tumors in males and their prognostic value in Peruvian population.METHODS This study looked at a single-institution series of 54 Peruvian males with invasive BC who were diagnosed from Jan 2004 to June 2018.Standard pathological features,TIL levels,MMR proteins,AR immunohistochemistry staining,and PIK3CA gene mutations were prospectively evaluated in cases with available paraffin material.Percentage of AR and estrogen receptor(ER)positive cells was additionally calculated by software after slide scanning.Statistical analyses included association tests,intraclass correlation test and Kaplan Meier overall survival curves.RESULTS The median age was 63 years and most cases were ER-positive(85.7%),HER2 negative(87.2%),Luminal-A phenotype(60%)and clinical stage II(41.5%)among our male breast tumors.Median TIL was 10%and higher levels tended to be associated with Luminal-B phenotype and higher grade.AR-positive was found in 85.3%and was correlated with ER(intraclass index of 0.835,P0.05).CONCLUSION Male BC is usu

Influence of wire spacing and plate spacing on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles: An approach involving electrostatic shielding and diffusion charging

Electrostatic precipitation is a process widely used as gas cleaning device,to removal particles from gas flows.However,in a conventional and well-sized precipitator,the collection efficiency decreases for ultrafine particles,making it difficult to employ this equipment for controlling nanoparticle pollution.This paper investigates the influence of plate spacing(4 and 6.5 cm)and wire spacing(4,6,and 12 cm)on the electric current and nanoparticle collection efficiency,considering the effect of diffusion charging and electrostatic shielding.Two laboratory-scale dry wire-plate electrostatic precipitators with different plate spacings were tested for the collection of nanoparticles(6.15–241.4 nm)at three air velocities(1.9,2.9,and 3.9 cm/s).The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the equipment in removing nanoparticles(99.9%)under the highest electric fields.Higher values of the wire spacing led to increases in the current and the collection efficiency.This was associated with reduced electrostatic shielding,which is more evident in smaller ducts with a higher density of field lines.It is expected that the findings should improve knowledge on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles,enabling optimization of collection efficiency by considering the effects of geometric parameters.

Background and aims:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is characterized by several clinically important prognostic parameters,including portal vein thrombosis(PVT),tumor multifocality,and serum alphafetoprotein(AFP)levels,in addition to maximum tumor diameter(MTD).However,associations among these parameters have not been thoroughly examined.Thus,the study aimed to investigate the correlations among these HCC characteristics in a prospectively collected database.Methods:An 8080 HCC patient database derived from our weekly HCC council meeting was examined with respect to the correlations at baseline patient presentation between increases in MTD and changes in the percentage of patients with PVT,multifocality,or AFP levels.Results:The percentage of patients with PVT and with multifocality(tumor nodule numbers≥3)significantly increased with enlarging MTD,regardless of the serum AFP level,showing the independence of PVT and multifocality on AFP.The percentage of patients with multifocality increased with enlarging MTD,in the presence or absence of PVT,showing the independence of multifocality from PVT.Therefore,discordance was found between different tumor parameters.Conclusions:A statistically significant association was found between PVT and MTD and between multifocality and MTD,all three of which are independent of AFP.PVT and multifocality appeared to be independent of each other.Although PVT and multifocality were independent of AFP,they were also augmented with high serum AFP levels.The results suggest the possibility of multiple pathways of tumor progression in the later stages of HCC development.
