CO_(2)emission evaluation and cost analysis of oxygen blast furnace process with sintering flue gas injection

In order to achieve ultra-low emissions of SO_(2)and nO_(x),the oxygen blast furnace with sintering flue gas injection is presented as a promising novel *** CO_(2)emission was examined,and a cost analysis of the process was *** results show that in the cases when the top gas is not circulated(Cases 1–3),and the volume of injected sintering flue gas per ton of hot metal is below about 1250 m^(3),the total CO_(2)emissions decrease first and then increase as the oxygen content of the blast *** the volume of injected sintering flue gas per ton of hot metal exceeds approximately 1250 m^(3),the total CO_(2)emissions gradually *** the recirculating top gas and the vacuum pressure swing adsorption are considered,the benefits of recovered gas can make the ironmaking cost close to or even lower than that of the ordinary blast ***,the implementation of this approach leads to a substantial reduction in total CO_(2)emissions,with reductions of 69.13%(Case 4),70.60%(Case 5),and 71.07%(Case 6),*** integrating previous research and current findings,the reasonable oxygen blast furnace with sintering flue gas injection can not only realize desulfurization and denitrification,but also achieve the goal of reducing CO_(2)emissions and ironmaking cost.

The sulfuric acid leaching kinetics of South African chromite was investigated. The negative influence of a solid product layer constituted of a silicon-rich phase and chromium-rich sulfate was eliminated by crushing the chromite and by selecting proper leaching con- ditions. The dimensionless change in specific surface area and the conversion rate of the chromite were observed to exhibit a proportional re- lationship. A modified shrinking particle model was developed to account for the change in reactive surface area, and the model was fitted to experimental data. The resulting model was observed to describe experimental findings very well. Kinetics analysis revealed that the leach- ing process is controlled by a chemical reaction under the employed experimental conditions and the activation energy of the reaction is 48 ***-1.

Large amounts of steel slag (SS) and CO2 are produced globally each year during steel production. An SS-based carbon capture and utilization (SS-CCU) process for CO2 mineralization is suitable specifically for steel-making industries for simultaneous mitigation of CO2 emissions and valorization of wastes. However, the SS-CCU process is currently in the stage of laboratory research and far away from industrial application. In this review, some SS-CCU processes, including direct and indirect carbonation processes, were explored and summarized. Herein, the key factors and mechanisms of the SS-based CO2 sequestration process were identified. The carbonation process efficacy and its environmental impact (including global warming, energy use, water use, and metallic pollutants) were evaluated. Furthermore, the challenges and prospects of the further development of the SS-CCU process were discussed. © 2022

In the ironmaking blast furnace a proper control of the burden distribution is important as this is the primary means of affecting the conditions in the upper part, the shaft, of the furnace, where the burden is heated and the indirect reduction of the iron oxides takes place. The present paper studies the charging of pellets and coke in the furnace both by experiments and mathematical modeling. A small-scale bell-less charging device is used to study the burden distribution experimentally for different charging programs. Corresponding programs are simulated using the discrete element modeling（DEM） approach. The results are compared and conclusions concerning the findings are drawn. The coke push effect, where lighter coke on the burden surface is shifted by charging of the heavier pellets, is also discussed.

Reduction reactions of iron ore between gas and raw material are determined by material bulk, especially radial distribution of pellet/sinter and coke in blast furnace. An appropriate control of material distribution is required to yield a smooth operation with effective performance and an appropriate gas flow at the wall. This paper studies two different DEM packages application for charing system of ironmaking blast furnace. The simulations（EDEM 2.2.1 and LIGGGHTS 3.4.0） based on the discrete element method（DEM）, are validated using mass fraction distribution in the trajectory of pellet flow and burden distributions of pellet on a horizontal plane.

Specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators including maresin 1 mediate resolution but the levels of these are reduced in Alzheimer's disease brain, suggesting that they constitute a novel target for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease to prevent/stop inflammation and combat disease pathology. Therefore, it is important to clarify whether they counteract the expression of genes and proteins induced by amyloid-β. With this objective, we analyzed the relevance of human monocyte–derived microglia for in vitro modeling of neuroinflammation and its resolution in the context of Alzheimer's disease and investigated the pro-resolving bioactivity of maresin 1 on amyloid-β42–induced Alzheimer's disease–like inflammation. Analysis of RnA-sequencing data and secreted proteins in supernatants from the monocyte-derived microglia showed that the monocyte-derived microglia resembled Alzheimer's disease–like neuroinflammation in human brain microglia after incubation with amyloid-β42. Maresin 1 restored homeostasis by down-regulating inflammatory pathway related gene expression induced by amyloid-β42 in monocyte-derived microglia, protection of maresin 1 against the effects of amyloid-β42 is mediated by a re-balancing of inflammatory transcriptional networks in which modulation of gene transcription in the nuclear factor-kappa B pathway plays a major part. We pinpointed molecular targets that are associated with both neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease and therapeutic targets by maresin 1. In conclusion, monocyte-derived microglia represent a relevant in vitro microglial model for studies on Alzheimer's disease-like inflammation and drug response for individual patients. Maresin 1 ameliorates amyloid-β42–induced changes in several genes of importance in Alzheimer's disease, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease.
