Though a relatively young discipline, translational bioinformatics （TBI） has become a key component of biomedical research in the era of precision medicine. Development of high-throughput technologies and electronic health records has caused a paradigm shift in both healthcare and biomedical research. Novel tools and methods are required to convert increasingly voluminous datasets into information and actionable knowledge. This review provides a definition and contex- tualization of the term TBI, describes the discipline＇s brief history and past accomplishments, as well as current loci, and concludes with predictions of future directions in the field.

Public health decision makers rely on hospitalization forecasts to inform COVID-19 pandemic planning and resource *** forecasts are most relevant when they are accurate,made available quickly,and updated *** rapidly adapted an agent-based model(ABM)to provide weekly 30-day hospitalization forecasts(i.e.,demand for intensive care unit[ICU]beds and non-ICU beds)by state and region in North Carolina for public health decision *** ABM was based on a synthetic population of North Carolina residents and included movement of agents(i.e.,patients)among North Carolina hospitals,nursing homes,and the *** assigned SARSCoV-2 infection to agents using county-level compartmental models and determined agents’COVID-19 severity and probability of hospitalization using synthetic population characteristics(e.g.,age,comorbidities).We generated weekly 30-day hospitalization forecasts during MayeDecember 2020 and evaluated the impact of major model updates on statewide forecast accuracy under a SARS-CoV-2 effective reproduction number range of *** the 21 forecasts included in the assessment,the average mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)was 7.8%for non-ICU beds and 23.6%for ICU *** the major model updates,integration of near-real-time hospital occupancy data into the model had the largest impact on improving forecast accuracy,reducing the average MAPE for non-ICU beds from 6.6%to 3.9%and for ICU beds from 33.4%to 6.5%.Our results suggest that future pandemic hospitalization forecasting efforts should prioritize early inclusion of hospital occupancy data to maximize accuracy.

Purpose:The aim of this study was to test and expand the Motivation of Marathoners Scale(MOMS) model(Masters et al.,1993).Methods:The MOMS questionnaire was distributed to 306 male and female marathon runners(age range:20–77 years) with experience in marathon running(range:1–44 runs).A confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) revealed that the original model failed to fit the ***,exploratory factor analysis(EFA) was performed to test the best factorial solution for the current data,and a subsequent CFA was performed on the revised factorial ***,a series of EFAs using maximum likelihood factor extraction method were ***:The best structure solution for model-data fit resulted in 11 factors:psychological coping—emotional-related coping,psychological coping—everyday-life management,life meaning,self-esteem,recognition,affiliation,weight concerns,general health orientation—reduced disease prevalence and longevity,general health orientation—keep fit,competition,and personal goal ***:This study provides a sound and solid framework for studying motivation for physically demanding tasks such as marathon runs,and needs to be similarly applied and tested in studies incorporating physical tasks which vary in mental demands.

OBJECTIVE： This study investigated the acceptability and effectiveness of acupuncture for persistent musculoskeletat pain in the elderly and assessed the conditions for a future controlled trial. METHODS： A total of 60 patients, hospitalized in a geriatric hospital were enrolled. The intervention consisted of eight acupuncture sessions. The main outcome was the patient＇s participation rate. Regarding pain, the evaluation was based on pre- and post-treatment variations. As a high proportion of the patients had cognitive impairment, the behavioral pain scale DOLOPLUS-2 was chosen although self evaluation was used wherever possible. RESULTS： The mean age of the patients was 83 years. The acceptance rate was very high （89.6%） and 90% of the patients completed the entire course of treatment. After five weeks, the mean DOLOPLUS score had decreased significantly （P〈0.01）. The patients reported improved sleep quality and a reduction in their anxiety symptoms. Furthermore, caregivers noticed a decrease in patient aggressiveness making care easier. CONCLUSION： Our results suggest that acupuncture is highly acceptable and could be very useful in the management of chronic pain when performed in very old frail people with chronic physical and mental disability. Recent progress in deep learning is essentially based on a“big data for small tasks”paradigm,under which massive amounts of data are used to train a classifier for a single narrow *** this paper,we call for a shift that flips this paradigm upside ***,we propose a“small data for big tasks”paradigm,wherein a single artificial intelligence(AI)system is challenged to develop“common sense,”enabling it to solve a wide range of tasks with little training *** illustrate the potential power of this new paradigm by reviewing models of common sense that synthesize recent breakthroughs in both machine and human *** identify functionality,physics,intent,causality,and utility(FPICU)as the five core domains of cognitive AI with humanlike common *** taken as a unified concept,FPICU is concerned with the questions of“why”and“how,”beyond the dominant“what”and“where”framework for understanding *** are invisible in terms of pixels but nevertheless drive the creation,maintenance,and development of visual *** therefore coin them the“dark matter”of *** as our universe cannot be understood by merely studying observable matter,we argue that vision cannot be understood without studying *** demonstrate the power of this perspective to develop cognitive AI systems with humanlike common sense by showing how to observe and apply FPICU with little training data to solve a wide range of challenging tasks,including tool use,planning,utility inference,and social *** summary,we argue that the next generation of AI must embrace“dark”humanlike common sense for solving novel tasks.

BACKGROUND Type 1 diabetes(T1D)contributes to altered lipid profiles and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease(CVD).Youth with T1D may have additional CVD risk factors within the first decade of *** To examine risk factors for dyslipidemia in young subjects with *** Longitudinal and cross-sectional retrospective study of 170 young subjects with T1D(86 males;baseline mean age 12.2±5.6 years and hemoglobin A1c 8.4%±1.4%)were followed in a single tertiary diabetes center for a median duration of 15 *** for outcomes of lipid profiles at last visit(total cholesterol[TC],triglycerides[TGs],low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol[LDL-c],and highdensity lipoprotein-cholesterol[HDL-c])were analyzed by stepwise linear regression *** At baseline,79.5%of the patients had at least one additional CVD risk factor(borderline dyslipidemia/dyslipidemia[37.5%],pre-hypertension/hypertension[27.6%],and overweight/obesity[16.5%])and 41.6%had multiple(≥2)CVD risk factors.A positive family history of at least one CVD risk factor in a first-degree relative was reported in 54.1%of the *** of elevated TC:family history of CVD(β[SE]=23.1[8.3],P=0.006);of elevated LDL-c:baseline diastolic blood pressure(DBP)(β[SE]=11.4[4.7],P=0.003)and family history of CVD(β[SE]=20.7[6.8],P=0.017);of elevated TGs:baseline DBP(β[SE]=23.8[9.1],P=0.010)and family history of CVD(β[SE]=31.0[13.1],P=0.020);and of low HDL-c levels:baseline DBP(β[SE]=4.8[2.1],P=0.022]).CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that elevated lipid profiles are associated with DBP and a positive family history of *** is of utmost importance to prevent and control modifiable risk factors such as these,as early as childhood,given that inadequate glycemic control and elevation in blood pressure intensify the risk of dyslipidemia.
