A Footprint of Plant Desiccation Tolerance. Does It Exist？

Desiccation tolerance （DT）, the ability to survive loss of more than 90% of cellular water （≤0.1 g H2O g^-1 dry mass） for prolonged periods, is common in seeds （90% of angiosperm species） but rare in vegetative tissues （0.04% of land plants; reviewed in Gaff and Oliver, 2013）. Vegetative DT is more widespread in non-tracheophytes, being present in 25 species of algae, 158 bryophytes species, and all lichens, but is rare in tracheophytes, being displayed in 64 pteridophyte and 135 angiosperm species （Gaff and Oliver, 2013）.

Araucaria angustifolia(Bertol.)Kuntze is a representative species of the mixed Ombrophilous Forest in the Atlantic Forest Biome of *** development of a germplasm conservation protocol for long-term seed bank storage is compromised for this species,as it is sensitive to ***,in situ establishment of a soil seed bank in its natural habitat may be *** study evaluates the storability of two provenances of *** seeds and their behavior in an artificial soil seed bank in two forest environments(understory and edge).Results show that both seed provenances may be stored at 5C for approximately 12 months,retaining high *** subsequent decrease in germination was associated with a reduction and an increase in seed water content,as well as with increased electrical *** the understory environment,seed viability was above 85%for the first 60 days,and at the end of the experiment(270 days),seedlings ***,at the forest edge,there was a total loss of seed viability after 120 days associated with a reduction in water content and high *** is concluded,therefore,that short-term storage of *** seeds is possible in a cold room,which is fundamental to supply seed demand outside the production *** cover conservation is important for regeneration and conservation of the species.

玉米种子发芽和幼苗生长对水分环境十分敏感 ,低活力种子比高活力种子更敏感 .水分环境影响玉米种子吸收水分的速度 .不同水分条件下玉米种子发芽速度有显著差异 ,胚根伸长最早的在吸水 30 h左右 ,种子发芽最迟的在吸水 90 h以后 ,且发芽率显著下降 ;胚根伸长时的种子含水量在 30 %～ 6 5 %内变化 .发芽 3～ 7d的幼苗长度与发芽过程中胚的含水量呈显著正相关 ,芽的生长比根的生长对水分更敏感 .玉米种子在水分过多的环境中发芽 ,蛋白酶活性显著升高 ,淀粉酶活性显著下降。
