Open retropubic radical prostatectomy has been the“gold standard”treatment for locally confined prostate cancer(PCa)but in recent years minimal invasive techniques as laparoscopy and robot-assisted prostatectomy have become widely available.The trifecta of the surgical treatment of PCa is cancer control,the preservation of continence,and erectile potency.Over the years the complication rates of radical prostatectomy have become very limited with improved cancer control and better functional results.We review the indications and the surgical technique of radical prostatectomy,be it open or laparoscopic,eventually robot-assisted as well as the pre-and postoperative measures and the surgery-related consequences.

Two rectangular-shaped lakes,Lake Hulun and Lake Buir,located at the boundary between China and Mongolia,only c.75 km apart and therefore experiencing similar wind fields,have been studied based on satellite images and field surveys in order to compare their geomorphological and sedimentological characteristics.The wind-driven hydrodynamics,which have a significant effect on the development of littoral landforms and on sediment distribution,have been discussed for the two similar lakes that experienced a prevailing wind perpendicular to their long axis.A conceptual model related to wind-driven water bodies and sediment distribution is proposed.Wave-influenced to wave-dominated deltas,beaches,spits,and eolian dune deposits develop around these two lakes,with a strikingly similar distribution pattern.These features locally inform the longshore drift and help reconstruct the water circulation induced by wind forcing.Under the NW prevailing wind regime,the spits developed on the SW coast with a NW—SE extension,which was influenced by the NW—SE longshore currents.The same influence was observed in the delta extension in the NE area.The differences lie in the presence of fan deltas in the NW region of Lake Hulun,but not in Lake Buir.Additionally,the width of the beach and eolian deposits on the downwind coast of Lake Hulun is three times greater than that of Lake Buir which were caused by the differences in sediment supply and wind fetch between the two lakes.Lake Hulun and Lake Buir provide two reliable examples to understand the relationship among the wind field,provenance,hydrodynamics,landforms,and asymmetrical distribution of clastics in elongated lakes.They also represent relevant modern analogs,which may also be of guiding significance to wind-driven sand body prediction in lacustrine basins.

This study proposed a new real-time manufacturing process monitoring method to monitor and detect process shifts in manufacturing operations.Since real-time production process monitoring is critical in today’s smart manufacturing.The more robust the monitoring model,the more reliable a process is to be under control.In the past,many researchers have developed real-time monitoring methods to detect process shifts early.However,thesemethods have limitations in detecting process shifts as quickly as possible and handling various data volumes and varieties.In this paper,a robust monitoring model combining Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU)and Random Forest(RF)with Real-Time Contrast(RTC)called GRU-RF-RTC was proposed to detect process shifts rapidly.The effectiveness of the proposed GRU-RF-RTC model is first evaluated using multivariate normal and nonnormal distribution datasets.Then,to prove the applicability of the proposed model in a realmanufacturing setting,the model was evaluated using real-world normal and non-normal problems.The results demonstrate that the proposed GRU-RF-RTC outperforms other methods in detecting process shifts quickly with the lowest average out-of-control run length(ARL1)in all synthesis and real-world problems under normal and non-normal cases.The experiment results on real-world problems highlight the significance of the proposed GRU-RF-RTC model in modern manufacturing process monitoring applications.The result reveals that the proposed method improves the shift detection capability by 42.14%in normal and 43.64%in gamma distribution problems.

BACKGROUND Emphysematous hepatitis(EH)is a rare,rapidly progressive fulminant gasforming infection of the liver parenchyma.It is often fatal and mostly affects diabetes patients.CASE SUMMARY We report a case of EH successfully managed by a step-up approach consisting of aggressive hemodynamic support,intravenous antibiotics,and percutaneous drainage,ultimately followed by laparoscopic deroofing.Of 11 documented cases worldwide,only 1 of the patients survived,treated by urgent laparotomy and surgical debridement.CONCLUSION EH is a life-threatening infection.Its high mortality rate makes timely diagnosis essential,in order to navigate treatment accordingly.

Nuclear pore complexes(NPCs)regulate all molecular transport between the nucleus and the cytoplasm in eukaryotic cells.Intrinsically disordered Phe-Gly nucleoporins(FG-Nups)line the central conduit of NPCs to impart a selective barrier where large proteins are excluded unless bound to a transport receptor(karyopherin;Kap).Here,we assess“Kap-centric”NPC models,which postulate that Kaps participate in establishing the selective barrier.We combine biomimetic nanopores,formed by tethering Nsp1 to the inner wall of a solid-state nanopore,with coarse-grained modeling to show that yeast Kap95 exhibits two populations in Nsp1-coated pores:one population that is transported across the pore in milliseconds,and a second population that is stably assembled within the FG mesh of the pore.Ionic current measurements show a conductance decrease for increasing Kap concentrations and noise data indicate an increase in rigidity of the FG-mesh.Modeling reveals an accumulation of Kap95 near the pore wall,yielding a conductance decrease.We find that Kaps only mildly affect the conformation of the Nsp1 mesh and that,even at high concentrations,Kaps only bind at most 8%of the FG-motifs in the nanopore,indicating that Kap95 occupancy is limited by steric constraints rather than by depletion of available FG-motifs.Our data provide an alternative explanation of the origin of bimodal NPC binding of Kaps,where a stable population of Kaps binds avidly to the NPC periphery,while fast transport proceeds via a central FG-rich channel through lower affinity interactions between Kaps and the cohesive domains of Nsp1.

Since their introduction by James Dixon in 2010,data lakes get more and more attention,driven by the promise of high reusability of the stored data due to the schema-on-read semantics.Building on this idea,several additional requirements were discussed in literature to improve the general usability of the concept,like a central metadata catalog including all provenance information,an overarching data governance,or the integration with(high-performance)processing capabilities.Although the necessity for a logical and a physical organisation of data lakes in order to meet those requirements is widely recognized,no concrete guidelines are yet provided.The most common architecture implementing this conceptual organisation is the zone architecture,where data is assigned to a certain zone depending on the degree of processing.This paper discusses how FAIR Digital Objects can be used in a novel approach to organize a data lake based on data types instead of zones,how they can be used to abstract the physical implementation,and how they empower generic and portable processing capabilities based on a provenance-based approach.

Recently,it was discovered that the entropy-conserving/dissipative high-order split-form discontinuous Galerkin discretizations have robustness issues when trying to solve the sim-ple density wave propagation example for the compressible Euler equations.The issue is related to missing local linear stability,i.e.,the stability of the discretization towards per-turbations added to a stable base flow.This is strongly related to an anti-diffusion mech-anism,that is inherent in entropy-conserving two-point fluxes,which are a key ingredi-ent for the high-order discontinuous Galerkin extension.In this paper,we investigate if pressure equilibrium preservation is a remedy to these recently found local linear stability issues of entropy-conservative/dissipative high-order split-form discontinuous Galerkin methods for the compressible Euler equations.Pressure equilibrium preservation describes the property of a discretization to keep pressure and velocity constant for pure density wave propagation.We present the full theoretical derivation,analysis,and show corresponding numerical results to underline our findings.In addition,we characterize numerical fluxes for the Euler equations that are entropy-conservative,kinetic-energy-preserving,pressure-equilibrium-preserving,and have a density flux that does not depend on the pressure.The source code to reproduce all numerical experiments presented in this article is available online(https://***/10.5281/zenodo.4054366).

Left ventricular assist device(LVAD)therapy is well-established in the treatment of end-stage cardiac failure.Indications are bridge to transplant(BTT),bridge to candidacy(BTC),bridge to recovery(BTR),and destination therapy(DT).The durability and adverse event(AE)rate of LVADs have improved over the years.However,due to donor shortage,the duration of support in the BTT population has increased tremendously;similarly,DT patients are on the device for a long time.Consequently,the number of readmissions of long-term LVAD patients has increased.In cases of severe AEs,intensive care unit(ICU)treatment can be necessary.Infectious complications are the most common AE.Furthermore,embolic or hemorrhagic strokes can occur due to foreign surfaces,acquired von Willebrand syndrome,and anticoagulation treatment.Another consequence of the coagulative status,in combination with the continuous flow,are gastrointestinal bleeding events.Moreover,in most patients,an isolated LVAD is implanted,and this involves the risk of late right heart failure.Adjustment of pump speed and optimization of the volume status can help solve this issue.Malignant arrhythmias,pre-existing or de novo after LVAD implantation,can be a life-threatening AE.Antiarrhythmic medical therapy or ablation are potential treatment options.As for specific LVADs,the Medtronic HeartWare TM ventricular assist device(HVAD)is not manufactured and distributed currently;however,4000 patients are still on the device.Pump thrombosis can occur,wherein thrombolytic therapy is the first-line treatment option.Additionally,the HVAD can fail to restart after controller exchange due to technical issues,and precautions must be taken.The Momentum 3 trial showed superior survival without pump exchange or disabling stroke in patients treated with the HeartMate 3■(HM3;Abbott,Abbott Park,IL,USA)device in comparison to the HeartMate II(HMII).However,in a few cases,a twisted graft or bio debris formation between the outflow graft and bend relief could be observed,causing outflow graft obstr
