Dear Editor,The coronavirus disease of 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has necessitated that semi-urgent and elective medical cases,including cancer screenings,are postponed in hospitals worldwide to accommodate the increasing number of patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms[1-4].Consequently,several reports from the first COVID-19 wave in spring 2020 showed a significant decrease in new cancer diagnoses as well as cancer therapy and screenings[5,6].

Reviewing the current state of knowledge about sequential extraction applied for soil vanadium （V） fractionation, we identified an urgent requirement of an sequential extraction （SE） specified for V. Namely, almost all previous SE extracted only 8.4%-48% of total V in soils （excluding residue）. Thus, we proposed an eight-step SE for V fractionation in soils according to the knowledge gained from literature and our own dissolution experiments with model minerals. After extracting the mobilisable and adsorbed V with de-ionised water and 5 mmol/l phosphate, I moVl pyrophosphate was applied to gather organic matter bound V which minimised the artefact dissolving AI and Fe （hydr）oxides occurred when using HNO3-H202 for extraction. Extraction with 0.4 mol/l NH2OH. HCI was highly selective toward manganese oxides. Fractionation of different crystalline A1 and Fe （hydr）oxides associated V with 1 mol/l HCI, 0.2 mol/l oxalate buffer and 4 mol/l HCI at 95℃especially improved the extractability of V incorporated with crystalline phase associated V. The suitability of our new SE scheme was confirmed by its higher selectivity against the target phases and higher extraction efficiencies （55%-77% of total V） with model minerals and 6 soils of different properties than previous SE.

AIM： To investigate interleukin-18 （Il-18） in patients with chronic panreatitis （CP）. METHODS： We studied 29 patients with CP and 30 healthy controls. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells （PBMC） were isolated and incubated with 50 mmol/l ethanol, lipopolysaccharide （lPS）（doses 25 g/l, 250 g/l, 2500 g/l） and both agents for 24 h. levels of Il-18 in the supernatants, and levels of Il-18, Il-12, interferon （IFN）-T and soluble CD14 in the serum were analysed by EI_ISA technique. Expression of Il-18 in PBMC was investigated by reverse-transcription （RT）-PCR. Il-18 protein levels in CP tissue and in normal pancreas were studied by ElISA technique. Il-18 levels in PBMC and pancreatic tissue were determined by Westernblot. Immunohistochemistry for pancreatic Il-18 expression was performed.RESUlTS： In patients, Il-18 serum levels were significantly enhanced by 76% （mean： 289.9 ± 167.7 ng/l） compared with controls （mean： 165.2 ± 43.6 ng/l; P 〈 0.0005）. Il-12 levels were enhanced by 25% in patients （18.3 ± 7.3 ng/l） compared with controls （14.7 ± 6.8 ng/l, P = 0.0576） although not reaching the statistical significance. IFN-γ, and soluble CD14 levels were not increased. In vitro, lPS stimulated significantly and dosedependently Il-18 secretion from PBMC. Incubation with ethanol reduced lPS-stimulated Il-18 secretion by about 50%. The mRNA expression of Il-18 in PBMC and the response of PBMC to ethanol and lPS was similar in CP patients and controls. In PBMC, no significant differences in Il-18 protein levels were detected between patients and controls. Il-18 protein levels were increased in CP tissues compared to normal pancreatic tissues. Il-18 was expressed by pancreatic acinar cells and by infiltrating inflammatory cells within the pancreas. CONClUSION： Il-18 originates from the chronically inflammed pancreas and appears to be involved in the fibrotic destruction of the organ.

Superior ballistic performance and the lightweight character of Ti alloys are considered as main reasons for their use in armour applications against a broad spectrum of ballistic threats,***,fragment or blast *** dynamic loading caused by typical penetrators is characterized by high strain rates,only specific test methods allow a closer investigation of the respective material *** the present study,quasi-static and dynamic compression tests as well as ballistic tests were conducted on a twophase a+βalloy Ti-6Al-4V(in m%)manufactured by ***-deformation heat treatments,influencing microstructure and mechanical properties were applied in order to compare three different microstructural configurations:as-rolled,mill-annealed and ***,on the one hand,ballistic tests were employed for the determination of the ballistic limit velocity v_(50),compression tests,on the other hand,delivered essential input parameters for the application of the Johnson-Cook constitutive model in a finite element simulation of the impact *** comparison of experimental results to simulation results was supplemented by means of microstructural characterization of tested samples with the focus set on the prevalently observed deformation and damage mechanisms,as for example adiabatic shearing.

let S be a set of states of a physical system and p(s) the probability of an occurrence of an event when the system is in state s∈S. The function p from S to [0,1] is called a numerical event, multidimensional probability or, more precisely, S-probability. If a set of numerical events is ordered by the order of real functions one obtains a partial ordered set P in which the sum and difference of S-probabilities are related to their order within P. According to the structure that arises, this further opens up the opportunity to decide whether one deals with a quantum mechanical situation or a classical one. In this paper we focus on the situation that P is generated by a given set of measurements, i.e. S-probabilities, without assuming that these S-probabilities can be complemented by further measurements or are embeddable into Boolean algebras, assumptions that were made in most of the preceding papers. In particular, we study the generation by S-probabilities that can only assume the values 0 and 1, thus dealing with so called concrete logics. We characterize these logics under several suppositions that might occur with measurements and generalize our findings to arbitrary S-probabilities, this way providing a possibility to distinguish between potential classical and quantum situations and the fact that an obtained structure might not be sufficient for an appropriate decision. Moreover, we provide some explanatory examples from physics.

Autoimmune pancreatitis associated with a large pancreatic pseudocyst

Pancreatic cystic lesions comprise various entities with different histopathological characteristics and their dif-ferential diagnosis is often a challenge for clinicians. Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is usually not considered in the differential diagnosis of cystic lesions, but often mimics the morphological aspects of pancreatic neo-plasm. We report the case of a 64-year-old male patient with a cystic pancreatic head lesion (diameter 5 cm) and stenosis of the distal bile duct requiring repeated stent-ing. Because of the clinical presentation together with moderate elevation of serum CA19-9 and massive eleva-tion of cyst fluid CA19-9 (122.695 U/l; normal range: l), the patient underwent explorative laparotomy and pylorus preserving partial pancreaticoduodenectomy. Histology revealed surprisingly AIP with an inflammatory pseudocyst. In conclusion, cyst fluid analysis of tumor markers and cyst fluid cytology lack high accuracy to clearly differentiate cystic pancreatic lesions. Although AIP is rarely associated with pseudocysts, the disease has to be considered in the differential diagnosis of cys-tic pancreatic lesions. Early examination of serum IgG, IgG4 and auto-antibodies might save these patients from unnecessary endoscopical and surgical procedures.

The diverse clam shrimp Nestoria-Keratestheria fauna is widely distributed in the Dabeigou Formation in northern Hebei and eastern Inner Mongolia of China. Its important component genus Magumbonia from the Dabeigou Formation in the luanping Basin, northern Hebei, China, is revised on the basis of a scanning electron microscope （SEM） examination of the type species *** Wang, 1984, which revealed morphological features not recognized previously. These include coarse reticulation on the umbo and prominent growth lines ornamented with densely spaced, small tubercles and fine lirae.

Inhibition of histone deacetylase for the treatment of biliary tract cancer:A new effective pharmacological approach

AIM： To investigate in vitro and in vivo therapeutic effects of histone deacetylase inhibitors NVP-lAQ824 and NVP-lBH589 on biliary tract cancer. METHODS： Cell growth inhibition by NVP-lAQ824 and NVP-lBH589 was studied in vitro in 7 human biliary tract cancer cell lines by MTT assay. In addition, the antitumoral effect of NVP-lBH589 was studied in a chimeric mouse model. Anti-tumoral drug mechanism was assessed by immunoblotting for acH4 and p21^WAFl/CIP-1, PARP assay, cell cycle analysis, TUNEl assay, and immunhistochemistry for MIB-1. RESUlTS： In vitro treatment with both compounds significantly suppressed the growth of all cancer cell lines [mean IC50 （3 d） 0.11 and 0.05 μmol/l, respectively], and was associated with hyperacetylation of nucleosomal histone H4, increased expression of p21^WAF-1/CIP-1, induction of apoptosis （PARP cleavage）, and cell cycle arrest at G2/M checkpoint. After 28 d, NVP- lBH589 significantly reduced tumor mass by 66% （bile duct cancer） and 87% （gallbladder cancer） in vivo in comparison to placebo, and potentiated the efficacy of gemcitabine. Further analysis of the tumor specimens revealed increased apoptosis by TUNEl assay and reduced cell proliferation （MIB-1）. CONClUSION： Our findings suggest that NVP-lBH589 and NVP-lAQ824 are active against human biliary tract cancer in vitro. In addition, NVP-lBH589 demonstrated significant in vivo activity and potentiated the efficacy of gemcitabine. Therefore, further clinical evaluation of this new drug for the treatment of biliary tract cancer is recommended.
