intervention in the Loneliness of the Elderly What strategies, Challenges and Rewards？

The new challenges that the phenomenon of demographic aging imposes on society in general, and health services in particular, can impact active and healthy aging. The project was implemented for two years （2012/2013） and aimed to combat loneliness in the elderly, which constitutes an obstacle to healthy and active aging. Decrease the sense of loneliness of individuals from 65 to 84 years of age, the project was made by using the health planning methodology, starting with a descriptive study （health diagnosis of the independent elderly population） followed by the development, implementation and evaluation of a community intervention project, which included home visits to the elderly, assessment of the level of loneliness in two different times （UCLA scale） and various intergenerational activities of social life （dancing, walking, online courses, games...） using a cross-section of partnerships and community involvement. There was a decrease from 62.8% to 41.9% in the reported overall feeling of loneliness of independent individuals between the ages of 65 and 84 years of age. There was an increase from 50.0% to 86.4% of seniors who now have dreams/life projects. The reduction of social and emotional isolation resulted in the promotion of social networks, which not only encouraged social interaction but also considered the elderly who live alone. The health gains arising from it are evidenced in contributing more proactively and the improvement of the quality of life in the elderly community.

Blood and Milk Glutamine + Glutamate and Milk Composition in Lactating Holstein Cows in semi-Arid of Brazil

Our objectives were to measure glutamine (Gln) and glutamate (Glu) concentrations in the milk and blood of lactating Holstein cows, as well as milk composition and somatic cell count (sCC) throughout different stages of lactation. samples were collected from 21 cows in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th months of lactation. it analyzed Gln and Glu in the blood and Gln, Glu, lactose, fat, protein and somatic cells in the milk. Also, it measured Gln and Glu in blood from these dairy cows’ calves. Results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, T-test and Tukey’s test, with a 5% significance level. There was a difference in blood [Gln] in from dairy cows (P nd (~0.181 μmol/mL) and 5th (~0.190 μmol/mL) months of lactation and the highest at 10th month (~0.276 μmol/mL). Also there was a higher protein content in the 5th and 10th months of lactation (~3.61% each) when compared to the other months (P s no difference in calves’ parameters and in all others parameters from dairy cows. We concluded that the lactation period produced a significant interference in blood [Gln] but not in milk [Gln] which may indicate increase in utilization or decrease in production of this amino acids during lactation in these cows under tropical conditions.

Analysis of in vivo absorption of didanosine tablets in male adult dogs by HPLC

Didanosine is an effective antiviral drug in untreated and antiretroviral therapy-experienced patients with Human immunodeficiency Virus (HiV). An automated system using on-line solid extraction and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection was developed and validated for pharmacokinetic analysis of didanosine in dog plasma. Modifications were introduced on a previous methodology for simultaneous analysis of antiretroviral drugs in human plasma. Extraction was carried out on C18 cartridges, with high extraction yield as stationary phase, whereas mobile phase consisted of a mixture of 0.02 M potassium phosphate buffer, acetonitrile (KH2PO4: acetonitrile: 96:4, v/v) and 0.5% (w/v) of heptane sulphonic acid. The pH was adjusted to 6.5 with triethylamine. All samples and standard solutions were chromatographed at 28 1C. For an isocratic run, the fiux was 1.0 mL/min, detection was at 250 nm and injected volume was 20 mL. The method was selective and linear for concentrations between 50 and 5000 ng/mL. Drug stability data ranged from 96% to 98%, and limit of quantification was 25 ng/mL. Extraction yield was up to 95%. Drug stability in dog plasma was kept frozen at 20 1C for one month after three freeze–thaw cycles, and for 24 h after processing in the auto sampler. Assay was successfully applied to measure didanosine concentrations in plasma dogs.

研究了Cu-2.0Fe(质量分数,%)合金中富Fe析出相形态的演变行为及其与等温温度和保温时间的关系。结果表明,Cu-2.0Fe合金在Fe相fcc温区内的924、964和984℃保温时,富Fe相粗化并伴随着球状(纳米级)→立方状(亚微米级)→四分支花瓣状(亚微米级)→多分支花瓣状(微米级)的形态演变。随着等温温度和保温时间的增加,多分支花瓣状颗粒的尺寸逐步增大,分支数量逐步增加。多分支花瓣状颗粒的长大需要吞噬周边的小颗粒,导致温度升高时纳米~亚微米级富Fe颗粒的数量密度下降。基于相场模拟的分析表明,界面能、弹性能和化学驱动力的综合作用诱发富Fe相的多重形态演变,其中四分支花瓣状颗粒长大过程中,在弹性应变能和化学驱动力相互角逐作用下,从一次分支上生长出二次分支,进而产生了多分支花瓣状的形态。

AiM:To verify the methylation status of CDH1, DAPK, COX2, hMLH1 and CDKN2A genes and to evaluate their association with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-cagA+ and Epstein Barr virus (EBV) infections in gastric ***: Methylation-specific PCR (MsP) assay was performed in 89 primary gastric carcinomas (intestinal and diffuse types). Microsatellite instability (Msi) analysis was performed using the BAT26 primer set and PCR products were analyzed with the ABi PRisM 3100 Genetic Analyzer using Genescan 3.7 software (Applied Biosystems). Detection of H. pylori and genotyping were performed by PCR, using specifi c primers for ureaseC and cagA genes. The presence of EBV was assessed by in situ hybridization. statistical analyses were performed using the χ2 or Fisher's exact ***: The most frequent hypermethylated gene was COX-2 (63.5%) followed by DAPK (55.7%), CDH1 (51%), CDKN2A (36%) and hMLH1 (30.3%). intestinal and diffuse adenocarcinomas showed different methylation profiles and there was an association between methylation of E-CDH1 and H. pylori-cagA+ in the intestinal adenocarcinoma type. Msi was correlated with hMLH1 methylation. There was an inverse correlation between DAPK hypermethylation and ***: We found a strong association between CDH1 methylation and H. pylori-cagA+ in intestinal-type gastric cancer, association of Msi and better prognosis and an heterogeneous COX-2 overexpression.

Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant,antibacterial and bacterial cell agglutination activities of the hexane(Hex) and 70%ethanol(70%EtOH) extracts of two species of red seaweeds Pterocladiella capillacea(***) and Osmundaria ***:in vitro antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical scavenging assay,ferric-reducing antioxidant power assay,ferrous ion chelating assay,β-carotene bleaching assay and total phenolic content *** activity was tested using the method of disc diffusion on Mueller-Hinton *** ability of algal extracts to agglutinate bacterial cells was also ***:The 70%EtOH extract of the two algae showed the highest values of total phenolic content compared to the Hex *** results of DPPH for both extracts(Hex,70%EtOH) of Osmundaria obtusiloba(43.46%and 99.47%) were higher than those of ***(33.04%and 40.81%) at a concentration of 1 000 μg/*** for the ferrous ion chelating,there was an opposite behavior,extracts of *** had a higher *** extracts showed a low ferric-reducing antioxidant power,with optical density ranging from0.054 to *** activities of all extracts evaluated for β-carotene bleaching were above 40%.There was no antibacterial activity against bacterial strains ***,the extracts of both species were able to agglutinate bacterial Gram positive cells of staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative cells of Escherichia coli,multidrug-resistant salmonella and Vibrio *** This is the first report of the interaction between these algal extracts,rich in natural compounds with antioxidant potential,and Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial cells.

At the intersection between treatment and diagnosis, nanoparticles technologies are strongly impacting the development of both therapeutic and diagnostic ***, the development of novel modalities for concomitant noninvasive therapy and diagnostics known as theranostics as a single platform has gained significant interests. These multifunctional theranostic platforms include carbon-based nanomaterials（e.g., carbon nanotubes）, drug conjugates, aliphatic polymers, micelles, vesicles, core-shell nanoparticles, microbubbles and dendrimers bearing different contrast agents and drugs, such as cytotoxic compounds in the oncology domain. Dendrimers emerged as a new class of highly tunable hyperbranched polymers, and have been developed as useful theranostic platforms. Magnetic resonance imaging, gamma scintigraphy, computed tomography and optical imaging are the main techniques developed with dendrimers in the theranostic domain in oncology. Different imaging agents have been used such as Gd（Ⅲ）,19F, Fe2O3（MRi）,76Br（PET）,111in,88Y,153Gd,188Re,131i（sPECT）,177Lu,gold（CT） and boronated groups, siliconnaphthalocyanines,dialkylcarbocyanines and QDs（optical imaging dyes）.

The Effect of Resveratrol on Bone status in Rats with Bile Duct Obstruction

Objective: We studied the influence of bile duct obstruction (BDO) after 28 days on bone metabolism status and their modification by resveratrol in male Wistar rats. Methods: The rats were divided into 3 groups: sham group with laparotomy and vehiculum application, group BDO—bile duct obstruction and vehiculum application, and group RBDO—bile duct obstruction and resveratrol application (10 mg/kg dose of resveratrol orally once daily). The bone mineral density (BMD;g/cm2) and body composition were measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. The physiccal strenght of femur was examined by controlled break biomechanical testing. The osteocalcin, procollagen type i N-terminal propeptide (PiNP) and carboxy-terminal collagen crosslinks (CTX) were analysed by EiA in the bone tissue homogenate. Results: The total BMD was lower in group BDO (0.176 ± 0.005;p = 0.01) and R-BDO (0.181 ± 0.004;p = 0.052) vs sham (0.209 ± 0.003). BMD of femur diaphysis in BDO group decreased significantly (p = 0.01) but not in R-BDO animals (p = 0.052). Body fat (g, median) was lower in BDO (19.0) and R-BDO (26.0) than in sham (35.0). The force needed for fracture of femurs (N) significantly decreased in BDO (154 ± 6) and R-BDO (151 ± 13) vs sham group (208 ± 7). The force needed for neck fracture decreased in BDO (105 ± 3) and R-BDO (115 ± 8) vs sham (135 ± 9). The osteocalcin decrease in group R-BDO (2.9 ± 0.1) vs sham (3.7 ± 0.4). Higher PiNP/CTX were in BDO (20 ± 5/0.49 ± 0.08) and R-BDO (30 ± 4/0.55 ± 0.07) vs sham (16 ± 4/0.48 ± 0.11). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that subchronic bile duct obstruction decreased body fat quantity and BMD with decrease of bone rigidity. Resveratrol showed protective effect on liver injury and consequently positive influence on bone tissue.

Psychotropic drugs and liver disease:A critical review of pharmacokinetics and liver toxicity

The liver is the organ by which the majority of sub-stances are metabolized, including psychotropic drugs. There are several pharmacokinetic changes in end-stage liver disease that can interfere with the metabolization of psychotropic drugs. This fact is particularly true in drugs with extensive first--pass metabolism, highly protein bound drugs and drugs depending on phase i hepatic metabolic reactions. Psychopharmacological agents are also associated with a risk of hepatotoxicity. The evidence is insufficient for definite conclusions regarding the prevalence and severity of psychiatric drug-induced liver injury. High-risk psychotropics are not advised when there is pre-existing liver disease, and after starting a psychotropic agent in a patient with hepatic impairment, frequent liver function/lesion monitoring is advised. The authors carefully review the pharmacokinetic disturbances induced by end-stage liver disease and the potential of psychopharmacological agents for liver toxicity.
