Apple dwarfing rootstocks cause earlier shoot termination and reduced root and shoot *** identify physiological factors responsible for rootstock-induced growth restriction,we compared vascular-enriched gene expression between two dwarfing rootstocks(‘M27’and‘M9’)and the vigorous rootstock‘M793’using RnA sequencing and quantitative reverse transcriptase *** expressed genes common to both dwarfing rootstocks belonged to five main biological processes:(1)primary metabolism,(2)cell wall synthesis and modification,(3)secondary metabolism,(4)hormone signalling and response and(5)redox *** promoting the biosynthesis of amino acids,lipids and cell walls were downregulated in dwarfing rootstocks,whereas genes promoting the breakdown of these compounds were *** only exception to this trend was the upregulation of starch synthesis genes in dwarfing ***-structural carbohydrate analysis demonstrated that starch concentrations in‘M9’roots,stems and grafted‘Royal gala’(‘Rg’)scions were double that of equivalent tissues from‘Rg’homo-grafted trees(‘Rg’/‘Rg’).Fructose and glucose concentrations were much lower in all three tissues of the‘Rg’/‘M9’***,these data indicate that dwarfing rootstocks are in a state of sugar depletion and reduced cellular activity despite having large starch *** significant finding was the over-accumulation of flavonoids and the downregulation of auxin influx transporters MdAUX1 and MdLAX2 in dwarfing *** propose that both factors reduce polar auxin *** results of this study contribute novel information about the physiological state of dwarfing rootstocks.

Effect of lignite amendment on carbon and nitrogen mineralization from raw and composted manure during incubation with soil

The application of animal manure as a source of plant nutrients requires the determination of the amount and pattern of nutrient mineralization from manure.A laboratory incubation study was conducted to investigate the influence of lignite amendment and lignite type on carbon(C)and nitrogen(n)mineralization in raw(feedstock)and composted cattle manure following application to soil at 30 and 60 t ha^(-1).The mineralization of C and n was determined by measuring changes in CO_(2) evolution and mineral n(nH_(4)^(+)-n+nO_(3)^(-)-n)over 40 *** results showed that lignite amendment suppressed the amount of manure C mineralized in both feedstock and compost,with the effect being more pronounced in the *** the 40-d incubation,the percentage of applied C mineralized was 26.4%-27.8%and 16.3%-21.4%in unamended and lignite-amended feedstocks,*** corresponding C mineralized in the composts was 12.4%-14.1%and 3.5%-6.5%.Lignite had no significant effect on the net n mineralized in compost(4.8%-6.7%and2.5%-7.8%in unamended and lignite-amended composts,respectively).Lignite had either no effect or increased the net n mineralized in feedstock(from3.2%-8.7%without lignite to 10.4%-13.5%)depending on the type of lignite *** study suggests that using lignite-amended manure,especially when composted,has the potential to build up soil organic C without limiting the availability of mineral n.

Report:How many Chinese journals are included in the newly indexed 700 regional journals on Web of Science?

Based on the current news via Thomson Reuters "700 new regional journals in the world have been added to Web of Science since 2007",we conducted an investigation to find out that 43(6.1%) Chinese journals(including 6 journals from Hong Kong region) are included. The results also show that up to now a total of about 153 Chinese journals(114 from China Mainland,11 from Hong Kong and 28 from Taiwan) have been included by SCI and SSCI & AHCI.

Record of Early Tonian mafic magmatism in the central Espinhaco(Brazil):new insights for break-up of the neoproterozoic landmass ancestor of Sao Francisco-Congo paleocontinent

Petrological characterization,U-Pb geochronology,Lu-Hf analyses and major and trace element data from mafic intrusions in the Central Espinhaco(central portion of the Brazilian shield)are used here to investigate the geological significance of the Early neoproterozoic magmatism in the context of the Sao Francisco-Congo *** mafic bodies are represented by medium to coarse-grained metagabbros with plagioclase,amphibole and *** U-Pb isotopic data from two samples yielded weighted mean 206pb/238U ages of 895±3.4 Ma(MSWD=1.7)and 896±2.4 Ma(MSWD=0.64),regarded as the best estimates for the crystallization age of these mafic *** and trace element data(including REEs)show that the gabbros originated from a subalkaline tholeiitic magma,typical of intraplate *** rocks are slightly enriched in LREEs and LILEs and depleted in *** new isotope and geochemical data,along with regional knowledge,indicate that these metagabbros mark the beginning of an important Tonian-age extensional tectonic event of the landmass of which the Sao Francisco-Congo paleocontinent was part(Rodinia supercontinent or Central African block?).We furthermore suggest that these rocks belong to a prominent suite of Tonian-age mafic rocks that mark a diachronic breakup attempt of this landmass which may have occurred from south to north along the Espinhaco mountain range.

Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming the technical setting ofconventional systems and finds applicability in smart cities, smart healthcare, smart industry, etc. In addition, the application areas relating to theIoT enabled models are resource-limited and necessitate crisp responses, lowlatencies, and high bandwidth, which are beyond their abilities. Cloud computing (CC) is treated as a resource-rich solution to the above mentionedchallenges. But the intrinsic high latency of CC makes it nonviable. The longerlatency degrades the outcome of IoT based smart systems. CC is an emergentdispersed, inexpensive computing pattern with massive assembly of heterogeneous autonomous systems. The effective use of task scheduling minimizes theenergy utilization of the cloud infrastructure and rises the income of serviceproviders by the minimization of the processing time of the user job. Withthis motivation, this paper presents an intelligent Chaotic Artificial ImmuneOptimization Algorithm for Task Scheduling (CAIOA-RS) in IoT enabledcloud environment. The proposed CAIOA-RS algorithm solves the issue ofresource allocation in the IoT enabled cloud environment. It also satisfiesthe makespan by carrying out the optimum task scheduling process with thedistinct strategies of incoming tasks. The design of CAIOA-RS techniqueincorporates the concept of chaotic maps into the conventional AIOA toenhance its performance. A series of experiments were carried out on theCloudSim platform. The simulation results demonstrate that the CAIOA-RStechnique indicates that the proposed model outperforms the original version,as well as other heuristics and metaheuristics.

Effects of Boiled Dill Seed on Anxiety During Labor: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Socio-economic status and lifestyle factors are associated with achalasia risk: A population-based case-control study

AIM: To evaluate the association between various lifestyle factors and achalasia ***: A population-based case-control study was conducted in northern Ireland, including n = 151 achalasia cases and n = 117 age- and sexmatched controls. Lifestyle factors were assessed via a face-to-face structured interview. The association between achalasia and lifestyle factors was assessed by unconditional logistic regression, to produce odds ratios(OR) and 95% confidence interval(CI).RESULTS: Individuals who had low-class occupations were at the highest risk of achalasia(OR = 1.88, 95%CI: 1.02-3.45), inferring that high-class occupation holders have a reduced risk of achalasia. A history of foreign travel, a lifestyle factor linked to upper socioeconomic class, was also associated with a reduced risk of achalasia(OR = 0.59, 95%CI: 0.35-0.99). Smoking and alcohol consumption carried significantly reduced risks of achalasia, even after adjustment for socio-economic status. The presence of pets in the house was associated with a two-fold increased risk of achalasia(OR = 2.00, 95%CI: 1.17-3.42). nochildhood household factors were associated with achalasia ***: Achalasia is a disease of inequality, and individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds are at highest risk. This does not appear to be due to corresponding alcohol and smoking behaviours. An observed positive association between pet ownership and achalasia risk suggests an interaction between endotoxin and viral infection exposure in achalasia aetiology.

An InTEgRATED ASSESSMEnT OF THE SUSTAInABILITY OF gREEn AnD BUILT-UP ROOFS

There is growing demand to develop methods that integrate environmental and economic assessment of more sustainabletechnologies incorporated into commercial and residential buildings. In this paper, we incorporate economic and energyuse data obtained for a green roof operating in the Midwest U.S. at latitude 42.94n into an integrated approach toestimate and compare the economic and environmental impacts of an intensive (or extensive) green roof with a built-uproof. The life cycle stages included in the analysis were material acquisition life stage which including the transportationeffects from material extraction through manufacturing to the fi nished products, and the use and maintenance life stageof the building. Environmental impact analysis indicates that green roof emits three times more environmental pollutantsthan built-up roofs in the material acquisition life stage. However, in the use and maintenance life stage, built-uproof emits three times more pollutants than a green roof. Overall, when emissions from both material acquisition lifestage and use and maintenance life stage are combined, the built-up roof contributes almost 3 times more (or 46% more)environmental emissions than green roof over a 45-year building life span. Furthermore the overall energy use, specifi -cally energy involved in the transportation from material extraction through to the fi nished product indicate that greenroof uses 2.5 times less energy than a built-up roof. An Economic Input and Output life cycle assessment (EIO-LCA) wasused to estimate the environmental impacts. The economic impact over an assumed 45-year building life was determinedusing life cycle costing, taking into account net Present Value (nPV) calculations. Life cycle costing results indicate thatgreen roof costs approximately 50% less to maintain over a 45 year-building life than a built-up roof. Comparative Influence of Dehulling on the Composition, Antioxidative and Functional Properties of Sorrel (<i>Hibiscus sabdariffa</i>L.) Seed

Although animal proteins provide indispensable amino acids that the body requires for normal growth, maintenance and function, their expensiveness makes them unaffordable especially for most families in the developing countries. This has given impetus to extensive research into under-utilized protein-rich oilseeds such as sorrel as possible alternate sources of good quality protein for tackling the challenge of protein-energy malnutrition which is fast becoming a global challenge. Sorrel seed may hold great potentials as a source of good quality protein, however the presence of hard seed coat, bitter after-taste and associated antinutritional factors have limited its use as protein supplement for humans and food ingredient. This study therefore compared the effect of dehulling sorrel seed to boiling, germination and roasting. This was with the aim of enhancing its utilization as protein source for human nutrition and functional ingredient in food product development. Flours obtained were analyzed for their proximate, mineral, antinutrient, amino and fatty acids composition;in vitro starch and protein digestibility, and functional and antioxidative properties. Protein content (ranged from 24.93% - 32.91%) significantly increased due to processing;dehulling alone accounted for a percentage increase of 32.01%. Similarly, dehulling increased all essential amino acids (except isoleucine and valine) at percentage which ranged from 3.63% - 61.17% whereas other processing methods caused significant reductions. Lysine, leucine, valine, arginine and phenylalanine were the most abundant essential amino acids, while methionine and cystine were the first and second limiting amino acids. Palmitic, linoleic, oleic and stearic acids were the most abundant fatty acids. Mineral composition was K > Ca > Mg > na > Fe > Zn > Mn.
