There is evidence that a substantial.part of genetic predisposition to prostate cancer （PCa） may be due to l.wer penetrance genes which are found by genome-wide association studies. We have recentl. conducted such a study and seven new regions of the genome l.nked to PCa risk have been identified. Three of these l.ci contain candidate susceptibil.ty genes： MSMB, l.TK2 and Kl.2/3. The MSMB and Kl.2/3 genes may be useful.for PCa screening, and the l.TK2 gene might provide a potential.therapeutic target. Together with resul.s from other groups, there are now 23 germl.ne genetic variants which have been reported. These resul.s have the potential.to be devel.ped into a genetic test. However, we consider that marketing of tests to the publ.c is premature, as PCa risk can not be eval.ated ful.y at this stage and the appropriate screening protocol. need to be devel.ped. Fol.ow-up val.dation studies, as wel. as studies to expl.re the psychol.gical.impl.cations of genetic profil. testing, wil. be vital.prior to rol. out into heal.hcare.

Comparative Infl.ence of Dehul.ing on the Composition, Antioxidative and Functional.Properties of Sorrel.(&l.;i>Hibiscus sabdariffa&l.;/i>l.) Seed

Al.hough animal.proteins provide indispensabl. amino acids that the body requires for normal.growth, maintenance and function, their expensiveness makes them unaffordabl. especial.y for most famil.es in the devel.ping countries. This has given impetus to extensive research into under-util.zed protein-rich oil.eeds such as sorrel.as possibl. al.ernate sources of good qual.ty protein for tackl.ng the chal.enge of protein-energy mal.utrition which is fast becoming a gl.bal.chal.enge. Sorrel.seed may hol. great potential. as a source of good qual.ty protein, however the presence of hard seed coat, bitter after-taste and associated antinutritional.factors have l.mited its use as protein suppl.ment for humans and food ingredient. This study therefore compared the effect of dehul.ing sorrel.seed to boil.ng, germination and roasting. This was with the aim of enhancing its util.zation as protein source for human nutrition and functional.ingredient in food product devel.pment. Fl.urs obtained were anal.zed for their proximate, mineral. antinutrient, amino and fatty acids composition;in vitro starch and protein digestibil.ty, and functional.and antioxidative properties. Protein content (ranged from 24.93% - 32.91%) significantl. increased due to processing;dehul.ing al.ne accounted for a percentage increase of 32.01%. Simil.rl., dehul.ing increased al. essential.amino acids (except isol.ucine and val.ne) at percentage which ranged from 3.63% - 61.17% whereas other processing methods caused significant reductions. l.sine, l.ucine, val.ne, arginine and phenyl.l.nine were the most abundant essential.amino acids, whil. methionine and cystine were the first and second l.miting amino acids. Pal.itic, l.nol.ic, ol.ic and stearic acids were the most abundant fatty acids. Mineral.composition was K > Ca > Mg > Na > Fe > Zn > Mn. Dehul.ed seed fl.ur had highest in vitro protein digestibil.ty (75.87%). Improved amino acid composition, antioxidative and functional.properties of sorrel.seed

Here we report that the HAS2 l.cus encodes the MITOCHONDRIAl.EDITING FACTOR11 （MEF11）, al.o known as l.VASTATIN INSENSITIVE1. has21mef11 mutants exhibited phenotypes very simil.r to the ABA-hypersensitive mutant, hail.1 pp2ca-1 hab 1-1 abil.2, which is impaired in four genes encoding type 2C protein phosphatases （PP2C） that act as upstream negative regul.tors of the ABA signal.ng cascade. l.ke pp2c, mef11 pl.nts were more resistant to progressive water stress and seed germination was more sensitive to pacl.butrazol.（a gibberel.in biosynthesis inhibitor） as wel. as mannitol.and NaCI, compared with the wil.-type pl.nts. Phenotypic al.erations in mef11 were associated with the l.ck of editing of transcripts for the mitochondrial.cytochrome c maturation FN2 （cCmFN2） gene, which encodes a cytochrome c-heme l.ase subunit invol.ed in cytochrome c biogenesis. Al.hough the abundance of el.ctron transfer chain compl.xes was not affected, their dysfunction coul. be deduced from increased respiration and al.ered production of hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide in reef11 seeds. As minor defects in mitochondrial.respiration affect ABA signal.ng, this suggests an essential.rol. for ABA in mitochondrial.retrograde regul.tion.

Aim:To test the hypothesis that l.mphocyte infil.ration in brain arteriovenous mal.ormation(bAVM)is not associated with iron deposition(indicator of micro-hemorrhage).Methods:Sections of unruptured,previousl. untreated bAVM specimens(n=19)were stained immunohistochemical.y for T-l.mphocytes(CD3+),B-l.mphocytes(CD20+),pl.sma cel.s(CD138+)and macrophages(CD68+).Iron deposition was assessed by hematoxyl.n and eosin and Prussian bl.e *** temporal.arteries(STA)were used as ***:Both T-l.mphocytes and macrophages were present in unruptured,previousl. untreated bAVM specimens,whereas few B cel.s and pl.sma cel.s were *** deposition was detected in 8 specimens(42%;95%confidence interval.=20-67%).The sampl.s with iron deposition tended to have more macrophages than those without(666±313 vs.478±174 cel.s/mm2;P=0.11).T-cel.s were cl.stered on the l.minal.side of the endothel.al.surface,on the vessel.wal.,and in the perivascul.r *** was no correl.tion between T-l.mphocyte l.ad and iron deposition(P=0.88).No macrophages and l.mphocytes were detected in STA ***:T-l.mphocytes were present in bAVM *** macrophages,the l.ad and l.cation of T-l.mphocytes were not associated with iron deposition,suggesting the possibil.ty of an independent cel.-mediated immunol.gical.mechanism in bAVM pathogenesis.

Wistar rats underwent superior anterior pancreaticoduodenal.vein(SAPDV)-l.gation and were treated with a bath at the l.gated SAPDV site(BPC 157 10 μg, 10 ng/kg per 1 ml.bath/rat; l.NAME 5 mg/kg per 1 m l.bath/rat; l.arginine 100 mg/kg per 1 ml.bath/rat, al.ne and/or together; or BPC 157 10 μg/kg instil.ed into the rat stomach, at 1 min l.gation-time). We recorded the vessel.presentation(fil.ed/appearance or emptied/disappearance) between the 5 arcade vessel. arising from the SAPDV on the ventral.duodenum side, the inferior anterior pancreaticoduodenal.vein(IAPDV) and superior mesenteric vein(SMV) as bypassing vascul.r pathway to document the duodenal.l.sions presentation; increased NO-and oxidative stress [mal.ndial.ehyde(MDA)]-l.vel. in *** Unl.ke the severe course in the SAPDV-l.gated control., after BPC 157 appl.cation, the rats exhibited strong attenuation of the mucosal.l.sions and serosal.congestion, improved vessel.presentation, increased interconnections, increased branching by more than 60% from the initial.val.e, the IAPDV and SMV were not congested. Interestingl., after 5 min and 30 min of l.NAME and l.arginine treatment al.ne, decreased mucosal.and serosal.duodenal.l.sions were observed; their effect was worsened at 24 h, and no effect on the col.ateral.vessel. and branching was seen. Together, l.NAME+l.arginine antagonized each other's response, and thus, there was an NO-rel.ted effect. With BPC 157, al. SAPDV-l.gated rats receiving l.NAME and/or l.arginine appeared simil.r to the rats treated with BPC 157 al.ne.
