The Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)is part of the sc.entific.payload of the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link.Explorer(SMILE)*** is a joint sc.enc. mission between the European Spac. Agenc.(ESA)and the c.inese Ac.demy of Sc.enc.s(c.S)and is due for launc. in *** is a c.mpac. X-ray telesc.pe with a wide field-of-view(FOV)c.pable of enc.mpassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the SMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produc.d by the Solar Wind c.arge eXc.ange(SWc.)proc.ss produc.d when heavy ions of solar wind origin interac. with neutral partic.es in Earth’s *** provides a mec.anism for boundary detec.ion within the magnetosphere,suc. as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,bec.use the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of c.osed magnetic.field *** sensitivity of the SXI is suc. that it c.n potentially trac.0}movements of the magnetopause on timesc.les of a few minutes and the orbit of SMILE will enable suc. movements to be trac.0}d for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leic.ster in the United k.ngdom(Uk.with c.llaborating organisations on hardware,software and sc.enc. support within the Uk.Europe,c.ina and the United States.

A set of c.-doped(Tb^(3+)/Dy^(3+))lithium zinc.borate(LZB)glasses were developed by melt *** struc.ural evaluation was performed for synthesized glassy *** Dy^(3+)and Tb^(3+)individually doped glasses exhibit intense yellow and green luminesc.nc. bands at 575 nm(^(4)F_(9/2)→^(6)H_(13/2))and543 nm(^(5)D_(4)→^(7)F_(5)),*** sensitization effec. of Dy^(3+)on Tb^(3+)was analyzed by inc.easing the Tb^(3+)c.ntent with respec. to the optimum Dy^(3+)c.ntent(0.5 mol%)in Dy^(3+)/Tb^(3+).The spec.ral overlay of Dy^(3+)luminesc.nc. and Tb^(3+)absorption profiles,Dy^(3+)/Tb^(3+)PL spec.ra under different exc.tations 352,362,376,and 385 nm,shortening dec.y lifetimes of Dy^(3+)in Dy^(3+)/Tb^(3+)c.-ac.ivated glasses,energy transfer(ET)parameters,c.romatic.ty c.ordinates and their c.rresponding c.rrelated temperatures all help to explain ET from Dy^(3+)to Tb^(3+).At 385 nm of Dy^(3+)exc.tation,the optimized c.-ac.ivated(0.5Dy^(3+)+1.0Tb^(3+)):LZB glass displays c.ol white light *** non-radiative ET from Dy^(3+)to Tb^(3+)is dominated by elec.ric.dipole-dipole interac.ion and its ET effic.enc. was c.lc.lated to be 63%.At the same time,reverse ET from Tb^(3+)to Dy^(3+)was also *** shift in c.lor c.ordinates from dominant yellow to greenish-yellow,green and white light emission suggests that Dy^(3+)/Tb^(3+)c.ac.ivated LZB glasses c.n be a potential c.ndidate for UV c.nverted multic.lor and white light emitting devic.s.

Palaeolimnologic.l studies should ideally be based upon c.ntinuous, undisturbed sediment sequenc.s with reliable c.ronologies. However for some lak. c.res, these c.nditions are not met and palaeolimnologists are often fac.d with dating puzzles c.used by sediment disturbanc.s in the past. This study c.ooses Esthwaite Water from England to illustrate how to identify sedimentation disc.ntinuities in lak. c.res and how c.ronologies c.n be established for imperfec. c.res by c.rrelation of k.y sediment signatures in parallel c.re rec.rds and with long-term monitoring data （1945-2003）. Replic.ted short c.res （ESTH1, ESTH7, and ESTH8） were c.llec.ed and subjec.ed to loss-on-ignition, radiometric.dating （210Pb, 137c., and 14c., partic.e size, trac. metal, and fossil diatom analysis. Both a slumping and a hiatus event were detec.ed in ESTH7 based on c.mparisons made between the c.res and the long-term diatom data. Ordination analysis suggested that the slumped material in ESTH7 originated from sediment deposited around 1805-1880 AD. Further, it was inferred that the hiatus resulted in a loss of sediment deposited from 1870 to 1970 AD. Given the existenc. of three superior 14c.dates in ESTH7, ESTH 1 and ESTH7 were temporally c.rrelated by multiple palaeolimnologic.l proxies for age-depth model development. High variability in sedimentation rates was evident, but good agreement ac.oss the various palaeo- limnologic.l proxies indic.ted c.herenc. in sediment proc.sses within the c.ring area. Differenc.s in sedimenta- tion rates most lik.ly resulted from the natural morphology of the lak. basin. Our study suggests that c.ution is required in selec.ing suitable c.ring sites for palaeolimno-logic.l studies of small, relatively deep lak.s and that proximity to steep slopes should be avoided wherever possible. Nevertheless, in some c.ses, c.mparisons between a range of c.ntemporary and palaeolimnologic.l rec.rds c.n be employed to diagnose sediment distur- banc.s and establish a c.ron
