Ab Initio Study of Single-and Double-Electron capture Processes in collisions of He^(2+) Ions and Ne Atoms

The single-and double-electron capture(SEc, DEc) processes of He^(2+) ions colliding with Ne atoms are studied by utilizing the full quantum-mechanical molecular-orbital close-coupling method. Total and state-selective SEc and DEc cross sections are presented in the energy region of 2 eV/u to 20 keV/u. Results show that the dominant reaction channel is Ne^(+)(2s2p^(6) ^(2)S) + He^(+)(1s) in the considered energy region due to strong couplings with the initial state Ne(2s^(2)2p^(6)^(1)S) + He^(2+) around the internuclear distance of 4.6 a.u. In our calculations, the SEc cross sections decrease initially and then increase whereby, the minimum point is around 0.38 keV/u with the increase of collision energies. After considering the effects of the electron translation factor(ETF), the SEc cross sections are increased by 15%–25% nearby the energy region of keV/u and agree better with the available results. The DEc cross sections are smaller than those of SEc because of the larger energy gaps and no strong couplings with the initial state. Due to the Demkov-type couplings between DEc channel Ne^(2+)(2s^(2)2p^(4)^(1)S) + He(1s^(2)) and the dominating SEc channel Ne^(+)(2s2p^(6) ^(2)S) + He^(+)(1s), the DEc cross sections increase with increasing impact energies. Good consistency can also be found between the present DEc and the experimental measurements in the overlapping energy region.

Seasonality in human semen quality of smokers and non-smokers: effect of temperature

Aim: To analyse the possible effect of seasonal variation on semen parameters. Methods: The participants consisted of 1688 men attending the andrology laboratory between 1991 and 1997 for reduced fertility in the couple. Semen analysis was performed according to the WHO manual. The 84 individual months of the study period were each assigned to one of the three groups according to the average monthly outside temperature; Group A (temperature c (>13.3℃). Results: When comparing the different sperm parameters, the morphology was significantly better in Group c. However, when the smokers were analysed separately, this difference disappeared and significant seasonal variations were found in sperm density, total sperm count, motility and total motile sperm; they were deteriorated in the warmer season. In non-smokers, no such negative effect of increased temperature was observed. conclusion: Sperm quality is influenced by seasonal factors. Increased environmental temperature, (maybe also light exposure) has an additional negative effect on the spermato-genesis in smokers, leading to reduced sperm quality in men with borderline fertility.

cD4^(+)T cells can"help"or"license" conventional type 1 dendritic cells(cDc1s)to induce cD8^(+)cytotoxic T lymphocyte(cTL)anticancer responses,as proven in mouse *** recently identified cDc1s with a transcriptomic imprint of cD4^(+)T-cell help,specifically in T-cell-infiltrated human cancers,and these cells were associated with a good prognosis and response to PD-1-targeting ***,we delineate the mechanism of cDc1 licensing by cD4^(+)T cells in *** cD4^(+)T cells produce IFNβvia the STING pathway,which promotes MHc-I antigen(cross-)presentation by cDc1s and thereby improves their ability to induce cTL anticancer *** cooperation with cD40 ligand(L),IFNβalso optimizes the costimulatory and other functions of cDc1s required for cTL response ***-I-producing cD4^(+)T cells are present in diverse T-cell-infiltrated cancers and likely deliver“help”signals to cTLs locally,according to their transcriptomic profile and colocalization with“helped/licensed”cDcs and tumor-reactive cD8^(+)T *** agreement with this scenario,the presence of IFN-I-producing cD4^(+)T cells in the TME is associated with overall survival and the response to PD-1 checkpoint blockade in cancer patients.

Prostate magnetic resonance imaging at 3 Tesla:Is administration of hyoscine-N-butyl-bromide mandatory?

AIM: To evaluate the value of administration of hyoscine-N-butyl-bromide (HBB) for image quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the prostate. METHODS: Seventy patients were retrospectively included in the study. Thirty-five patients were examined with administration of 40 milligrams of HBB (Buscopan ; Boehringer, Ingelheim, Germany); 35 patients were examined without HBB. A multiparametric MRI protocol was performed on a 3.0 Tesla scanner without using an endorectal coil. The following criteria were evaluated independently by two experienced radiologists on a five-point Likert scale: anatomical details (delineation between peripheral and transitional zone of the prostate, visualisation of the capsule, depiction of the neurovascular bundles); visualisation of lymph nodes; motion related artefacts; and overall image ***: comparison of anatomical details between the two cohorts showed no statistically significant difference (3.9 ± 0.7 vs 4.0 ± 0.9, P = 0.54, and 3.8 ± 0.7 vs 4.2 ± 0.6, P = 0.07) for both readers. There was no significant advantage regarding depiction of local and iliac lymph nodes (3.9 ± 0.6 vs 4.2 ± 0.6, P = 0.07, and 3.8 ± 0.9 vs 4.1 ± 0.8, P = 0.19). Motion arte- facts were rated as 'none' to 'few' in both groups and showed no statistical difference (2.3 ± 1.0 vs 1.9 ± 0.9, P = 0.19, and 2.3 ± 1.1 vs 1.9 ± 0.7, P = 0.22). Overall image quality was rated 'good' in average for both cohorts without significant difference (4.0 ± 0.6 vs 4.0 ± 0.9, P = 0.78, and 3.8 ± 0.8 vs 4.2 ± 0.6, P = 0.09). cONcLUSION: The results demonstrated no significant effect of HBB administration on image quality. The study suggests that use of HBB is not mandatory for MRI of the prostate at 3.0 Tesla.

We present the design, fabrication, and characterization of a highly nonlinear few-mode fiber(HNL-FMF) with an intermodal nonlinear coefficient of 2.8 W · km-1, which to the best of our knowledge is the highest reported to date. The graded-index circular core fiber supports two mode groups(MGs) with six eigenmodes and is highly doped with germanium. This breaks the mode degeneracy within the higher-order MG, leading to different group velocities among corresponding eigenmodes. Thus, the HNL-FMF can support multiple intermodal four-wave mixing processes between the two MGs at the same time. In a proof-of-concept experiment, we demonstrate simultaneous intermodal wavelength conversions among three eigenmodes of the HNL-FMF over the c band.

Successful combination of direct antiviral agents in livertransplanted patients with recurrent hepatitis c virus

AIM To analyze the safety and efficiency of direct-actingantiviral(DAA) regimens in liver-transplanted patients with hepatitis c virus(HcV) *** Between January 2014 and December 2016, 39 patients with HcV reinfection after liver transplantation were treated at our tertiary referral center with sofosbuvir(SOF)-based regimens, including various combinations with interferon(IFN), daclatasvir(DAc), simeprivir(SIM) and/or ledipasvir(LDV). Thirteen patients were treated with SOF + IFN ± RBV. Ten patients were treated with SOF + DAc ± RBV. Fiveteen patients were treated with fixed-dose combination of SOF + LDV ± RBV. One patient was treated with SOF + SIM + RBV. Three patients with relapse were retreated with SOF + LDV + RBV. The treatment duration was 12-24 wk in all cases. The decision about the HcV treatment was made by specialists at our transplant center, according to current available or recommended *** The majority of patients were IFN-experienced(29/39, 74.4%) and had a history of hepatocellular carcinoma(26/39, 66.7%) before liver transplantation. Sustained virological response at 12 wk(SVR12) was achieved in 10/13(76.9%) of patients treated with SOF + IFN ± RBV. All patients with relapse were treated with fixed-dose combination of SOF + LDV + RBV. Patients treated with SOF + DAc + RBV or SOF + LDV + RBV achieved 100% SVR12. SVR rates after combination treatment with inhibitors of the HcV nonstructural protein(NS)5 A and NS5 B for 24 wk were significantly higher, as compared to all other therapy regimens(P = 0.007). Liver function was stable or even improved in the majority of patients during treatment. All antiviral therapies were safe and well-tolerated, without need of discontinuation of treatment or dose adjustment of immunosuppression. No serious adverse events or any harm to the liver graft became overt. No patient experienced acute cellular rejection during the study period. cONcLUSION Our cohort of liver-transplanted patient

Systematic control of grain boundary densities in various platinum(Pt)nanostructures was achieved by specific peptide-assisted assembly and coagulation of nanocrystals.A positive quadratic correlation was observed between the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)specific activities of the Pt nanostructures and the grain boundary densities on their *** to commercial Pt/c,the grain-boundary-rich strain-free Pt ultrathin nanoplates demonstrated a 15.5 times higher specific activity and a 13.7 times higher mass *** studies suggested that the specific activity of ORR was proportional to the resident number and the resident time of oxygen on the catalyst surface,both of which correlate positively with grain boundary density,leading to improved ORR activities.

Occult celiac disease prevents penetrance of hemochromatosis

AIM:To report a patient with c282Y homozygocity,depleted body iron and intestinal atrophy caused by celiac disease (cD) who experienced resolution of the enteropathy with subsequent normalization of iron metabolism upon gluten free diet. METHODS:To obtain information on the tissue distribution and quantitative expression of proteins involved in duodenal iron trafficking,we determined the expression of divalent-metal transporter 1 (DMT1),ferroportin 1 (FP1) and transferrin receptor (TfR1) by means of immunohist-ochemistry and real-time PcR in duodenal biopsies of this patient. RESULTS:Whereas in hereditary hemochromatosis patients without cD, DMT1 expression was up-regulated leading to excessive uptake of iron, we identified a significant reduction in protein ana mRNA expression of DMT1 as a compensatory mechanism in this patient with HH and cD. cONcLUSION:Occult cD may compensate for increased DMT1 expression in a specific subset of individuals with homozygous c282Y mutations in the hemochromatosis (HFE) gene,thus contributing to the low penetrance of HH.
