Obesity has been linked to a range of pathologies,including *** contrast,regular physical activity is associated with the prevention or reduced progression of ***,physical activity can improve memory and spatial cognition,reduce age-related cognitive decline,and preserve brain volume,but the mechanisms are not fully ***,we investigated whether any detrimental effects of high-fat diet(HFD)-induced obesity on cognition,motor behavior,adult hippocampal neurogenesis,and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)could be mitigated by voluntary exercise training in male C57Bl/6 ***-induced impairment of motor function was not reversed by ***,voluntary wheel running improved long-term memory and increased hippocampal neurogenesis,suggesting that regular physical activity may prevent cognitive decline in obesity.

21-Component compositionally complex ceramics: Discovery of ultrahigh-entropy weberite and fergusonite phases and a pyrochlore–weberite transition

Two new high-entropy ceramics(HECs)in the weberite and fergusonite structures,along with the unexpected formation of ordered pyrochlore phases with ultrahigh-entropy compositions and an abrupt pyrochlore–weberite transition,are discovered in a 21-component oxide *** the Gibbs phase rule allows 21 equilibrium phases,9 out of the 13 compositions examined possess single HEC phases(with ultrahigh ideal configurational entropies:~2.7kB per cation or higher on one sublattice in most cases).Notably,(15RE_(1/15))(Nb_(1/2)Ta_(1/2))O_(4) possess a single monoclinic fergusonite(C2/c)phase,and(15RE_(1/15))_(3)(Nb_(1/2)Ta_(1/2))_(1)O_(7) form a single orthorhombic(C222_(1))weberite phase,where 15RE_(1/15) represents Sc_(1/15)Y_(1/15)la_(1/15)Pr_(1/15)Nd_(1/15)Sm_(1/15)Eu_(1/15)Gd_(1/15)Tb_(1/15)Dy_(1/15)Ho_(1/15)Er_(1/15)Tm_(1/15) Yb_(1/15)lu_(1/15).Moreover,a series of eight(15RE_(1/15))_(2+x)(Ti_(1/4)Zr_(1/4)Ce_(1/4)Hf_(1/4))_(2−2x)(Nb_(1/2)Ta_(1/2))_(x)O_(7) specimens all exhibit single phases,where a pyrochlore–weberite transition occurs within 0.75l conductivity appreciably,as the amorphous limit may have already been achieved in the ultrahigh-entropy 21-component *** discoveries expand the diversity and complexity of HECs,towards many-component compositionally complex ceramics(CCCs)and ultrahigh-entropy ceramics.

Pyrimidine Metabolism: Dynamic and Versatile Pathways in Pathogens and Cellular Development

The importance of pyrimidines lies in the fact that they are structural components of a broad spectrum of key molecules that participate in diverse cellular functions, such as synthesis of DNA, RNA, lipids, and carbohydrates. Pyrimidine metabolism encompasses all enzymes involved in the synthesis, degradation, salvage, interconversion and transport of these molecules. In this review, we summarize recent publications that document how pyrimidine metabolism changes under a variety of conditions, including, when possible, those studies based on techniques of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. First, we briefly look at the dynamics of pyrimidine metabolism during nonpathogenic cellular events. We then focus on changes that pathogen infections cause in the pyrimidine metabolism of their host. Next, we discuss the effects of antimetabolites and inhibitors, and finally we consider the consequences of genetic ma- nipulations, such as knock-downs, knock-outs, and knock-ins, of pyrimidine enzymes on pyrimidine metabolism in the cell.

Magnetic poly(acrylic acid)-based hydrogels for rapid ammonium sorption and efficient sorbent separation from sewage

Conservative Surgery for Subungual Melanoma In Situ Using Matriderm^(■)

Background: Standard treatment for subungual melanoma is wide local excision including digit amputation in order to obtain safety margins. level of amputation has been discussed in order to achieve appropriate oncological results along with preservation of limb function wherein local excision of subungual melanoma in situ without amputation is an option. Methods: We report two cases of subungual melanoma in situ treated by using a conservative approach. Both cases were treated with local excision with the resected tumor defect covered with an artificial dermis, Matriderm?. One case was of a 65-year-old male with a left thumb subungual melanoma in situ and another of a 41-year-old female with the same type of melanoma in the left hallux. Full-thickness skin graft was used for reconstruction after 7 weeks from the first surgery in the latter, and in the former case re-epithelization occurred within 90 days after surgery. To date, no clinical signs of recurrence have been found, and finger/toe functions were completely preserved with a minimized scar and little graft bed sensitivity. Follow-up time is two years and ten months for the left thumb case, and one year and six months for the left hallux subungual melanoma in situ. Conclusion: We present two cases of subungual melanoma in situ treated with digit sparing surgery including excision of the periosteum followed by the use of an artificial dermal template to guarantee coverage of the tumor bed defect, providing good functional and cosmetic outcome.
