The Influence of Biocomposite Processing and Composition on Natural fiber Length, Dispersion and Orientation

In the study, the effect of process steps, melt viscosity and fiber type on the fiber length of biocomposites from triethyl citrate plasticized starch acetate and natural fibers was investigated. Composites were prepared by melt processing (compounding and injection molding). The lengths of fully processed fibers were determined by dissolving the starch acetate matrix and measuring the length of the remaining fibers by optical microscopy and image analysis. A clear reductive effect of the pelletising and melt processing on the fiber length was noticed. Also a reduction of fiber length along the increasing fiber content and the decreasing plasticizer content was detected. This reduction was originated from the increasing shear forces during compounding, which again depended on the increased viscosity of the material. When comparing the fully processed hemp and flax fibers, hemp fibers remained longer and fibrillated more than flax fibers, leading to higher aspect ratio. Thus, the reinforcement efficiency of hemp fibers by the processing was improved, on the contrary to the reduced reinforcement efficiency of flax fibers. In addition, the analysis of fiber dispersion and orientation showed a good dispersion of fibers in the matrix, and a predominant orientation of the fibers in the melt flow direction.

目的为了研究声音在中耳传递过程中在砧镫关节上的声损失,深入了解中耳传声中的机制和方式,并探讨其意义,为中耳手术中听骨链重建,尤其是为耳硬化手术中镫骨赝复物与砧骨长脚的嵌合的理想程度寻找理论依据。方法本试验研究了17个新鲜颞骨标本。用2个颞骨进行了机械刺激时的磁场矫正。采用激光多普勒振动仪,分别在声刺激和机械刺激下,对15个新鲜颞骨标本进行了研究。首先测量在80dB声刺激(声压级,下同)下镫骨底板的位移,然后在机械刺激条件下得到等同于80dB声刺激的镫骨底板位移以建立试验体系并保证试验体系的准确性。在等同于80dB声刺激的机械刺激条件下,测量10个颞骨标本砧镫关节的声损失。结果在所测量的频率中,砧镫关节上的声损失在3dB以内。结论中耳传声过程中,在砧镫关节上存在着声损失,这种损失是生理性和保护性的。

The number of older end-stage renal disease patients being referred for kidney transplantation continues to increase. This rise is occurring alongside the continually increasing prevalence of older end-stage renal disease patients. Although older kidney transplant recipients have decreased patient and graft survival compared to younger patients, transplantation in this patient population is pursued due to the survival advantage that it confers over remaining on the deceased donor waiting list. The upper limit of age and the extent of comorbidity and frailty at which transplantation ceases to be advantageous is not known. Transplant physicians are therefore faced with the challenge of determining who among older patients are appropriate candidates for kidney transplantation. This is usually achieved by means of an organ systemsbased medical evaluation with particular focus given to cardiovascular health. More recently, global measures of health such as functional status and frailty are increasingly being recognized as potential tools in risk stratifying kidney transplant candidates. for those candidates who are deemed eligible, living donor transplantation should be pursued. This may mean accepting a kidney from an older living donor. In the absence of any living donor, the choice to accept lesser quality kidneys should be made while taking into account the organ shortage and expected waiting times on the deceased donor list. Appropriate counseling of patients should be a cornerstone in the evaluation process and includes a discussion regarding expected outcomes, expected waiting times in the setting of the new Kidney Allocation System, benefits of living donor transplantation and the acceptance of lesser quality kidneys.

Relationships between Emotional Well-Being, Patient Activation and Social Support among Adults with Severe Obesity Who Have Undergone Gastric Bypass Surgery

Objective: To examine the relationship between emotional well-being, patient activation and social support in a cohort of adults with severe obesity who underwent gastric bypass surgery from January to December 2012. Design: Cross-sectional survey. Subjects: Of a total population of 129 people, aged 18 - 68 years, at a local hospital in central Norway, 64 (50%) responding to the questionnaire, 52 (81%) being women. Main Outcome Measures: The World Health Organization—five Well-Being Index (WHO-5), the 13-item Patient Activation Measure (PAM-13), a 16-item instrument on the frequency and content of social support, and demographic and clinical data. Results: A significant positive association was found between higher level of patient activation and better emotional well-being (P = 0.02) in linear regression analysis. A higher level of family support was significantly associated with better emotional well-being (practical social support from the family (P = 0.04), emotional social support from family (P = 0.01) and from friends (P = 0.005)). Conclusion: Screening tools for emotional well-being should be used systematically in postoperative consultations to recognize those who need a more individually tailored post-surgery follow-up care after gastric bypass surgery. In addition, health care providers in both specialist and primary health care settings should consider assessing the level of social support as part of regular follow-up routines.
