Flexible thermocouple using a thermoelectric graphene fiber with a seamless junction

Temperature is an important physical variable that indicates the condition of the human body and artificial *** wearable applications require the development of temperature sensors with different form *** this study,a fiber-shaped thermoelectric temperature sensor is fabricated using a continuous graphene fiber whose two halves possess different reduction states.A seamless junction is formed by partially reducing a wet-spun graphene oxide fiber with hydroiodic acid(HI)solutions of different ***-half of the fiber is mildly reduced with 0.97 wt%HI,while the other half is highly reduced with 30.6 wt%*** different reduction states of the graphene composite fiber result in different Seebeck coefficients,allowing for the fabrication of a fiber-shaped graphene thermocou-ple without any laborious *** flexible graphene thermocouple exhibits high sensitivity with a thermopower of 12.5μV K^(-1)in the temperature range of room temperature to∼70℃.Furthermore,it exhibits high linearity with a correlation coefficient exceeding 0.995 and fast response with a time constant of 0.24 *** to its mechanical robustness and flexibility,the stand-alone graphene ther-mocouple can be knitted into a cotton fabric glove,which presents a fast response to environmental changes without any external power *** work offers a unique fabrication method for producing a high-performance,flexible thermocouple that features a seamless and clear junction without the use of additional *** alternative method eliminates the complicated assembly processes typically required for conventional thermocouples.

Metal stents placement for refractory pancreatic duct stricture in children

AIM To evaluate the use of fully covered self-expandable metal stents(FCSEMSs) for pancreatic duct strictures in children with chronic *** Eight patients with refractory benign dominant stricture of the main pancreatic duct(MPD) were enrolled through chart reviews between December 2014 and June 2017 in a single center. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) with placement of a 6-mm FCSEMS with dual flaps was performed. Endoscopic removal of FCSEMSs was performed with a snare or rat-tooth forceps. All procedures were performed by a pediatric gastroenterologist. For the assessment of outcomes, technical and clinical success, adverse events, and stent patency were evaluated *** The placement and removal of the FCSEMSs were successful in all 8 patients. Five patients were boys and 3 were girls. The median age at initial FCSEMS placement was 12 years(range, 5-18 years). The diameters of all the inserted stents were 6 mm, and the lengths were 4-7 cm. The median indwelling time was 6 mo(range, 3-10 mo). No pancreatic sepsis, pancreatitis, cholestasis, or mortality occurred. There was no proximal and distal migration. All subjects showed a patent stent. On follow-up ERCP, the mean diameter of the stricture improved from 1.1 mm to 2.8 mm(P < 0.05), whereas that of upstream dilation improved from 8.4 mm to 6.3 mm(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION This initial experience showed that temporary FCSEMS placement is feasible and safe for the management of refractory benign MPD stricture in children.

Gastrosplenic fistula occurring in lymphoma patients: Systematic review with a new case of extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma

AIM To provide the overall spectrum of gastrosplenic fistula(GSF) occurring in lymphomas through a systematic review including a patient at our *** A comprehensive literature search was performed in the MEDLINE database to identify studies of GSF occurring in lymphomas. A computerized search of our institutional database was also performed. In all cases, we analyzed the clinicopathologic/radiologic features, treatment and outcome of GSF occurring in lymphomas. RESULTS A literature search identified 25 relevant studies with 26 patients. Our institutional data search added 1 patient. Systematic review of the total 27 cases revealed that GSF occurred mainly in diffuse, large B-cell lymphoma(n = 23), but also in diffuse, histiocytic lymphoma(n = 1), Hodgkin's lymphoma(n = 2), and NK/T-cell lymphoma(n = 1, our patient). The common clinical presentations are constitutional symptoms(n = 20) and abdominal pain(n = 17), although acute gastrointestinal bleeding(n = 6) and infection symptoms due to splenic abscess(n = 3) are also noted. In all patients, computed tomography scanning was very helpful for diagnosing GSF and for evaluating the lymphoma extent. GSF could occur either post-chemotherapy(n = 10) or spontaneously(n = 17). Surgical resection has been the most common treatment. Once patients have recovered from the acute illness status after undergoing surgery, their long-term outcome has been favorable. CONCLUSION This systematic review provides an overview of GSF occurring in lymphomas, and will be helpful in making physicians aware of this rare disease entity.

Preconditioning process for dermal tissue decellularization using electroporation with sonication

Decellularization to produce bioscaffolds composed of the extracellular matrix(ECM)uses enzymatic,chemical and physical methods to remove antigens and cellular components from *** decellularization methods depend on the characteristics of tissues,and in particular,tissues with dense,complex structure and abundant lipid content are difficult to completely *** study enables future research on the development of methods and treatments for fabricating bioscaffolds via decellularization of complex and rigid skin tissues,which are not commonly considered for decellularization to date as their structural and functional characteristics could not be preserved after severe *** this study,decellularization of human dermal tissue was done by a combination of both chemical(0.05%trypsin-EDTA,2%SDS and 1%Triton X-100)and physical methods(electroporation and sonication).After decellularization,the content of DNA remaining in the tissue was quantitatively confirmed,and the structural change of the tissue and the retention and distribution of ECM components were evaluated through histological and histochemical analysis,*** of the chemical pretreatment that increase the efficiency of physical stimulation as well as decellularization,and conditions for electroporation and sonication without the use of detergents,unlike the methods performed in previous studies,were established to enable the complete decellularization of the skin *** combinatorial decellularization treatment formed micropores in the lipid bilayers of the skin tissues while removing all cell and cellular residues without affecting the ECM ***,this procedure can be widely used to fabricate bioscaffolds by decellularizing biological tissues with dense and complex structures.

In this study,we developed a simple screening procedure for the determination of 18 anthelmintics(including benzimidazoles,macrocyclic lactones,salicylanilides,substituted phenols,tetrahydropyrimidines,and imidazothiazoles)in five animal-derived food matrices(chicken muscle,pork,beef,milk,and egg)using liquid chromatography-tandem mass *** were extracted using acetonitrile/1% acetic acid(milk and egg)and acetonitrile/1% acetic acid with 0.5 mL of distilled water(chicken muscle,pork,and beef),and purified using saturated n-hexane/acetonitrile.A reversed-phase analytical column and a mobile phase consisting of(A)10 mM ammonium formate in distilled water and(B)methanol were used to achieve optimal chromatographic ***-matched standard calibration curves(R^(2)≥0.9752)were obtained for concentration equivalent to ×1/2,×1,×2,×3,×4,and×5 fold the maximum residue limit(MRL)stipulated by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug *** of 61.2e118.4%,with relative standard deviations(RSDs)of ≤19.9%(intraday and interday),were obtained for each sample at three spiking concentrations(×1/2,×1,and ×2 the MRL values).Limits of detection,limits of quantification,and matrix effects were 0.02e5.5 mg/kg,0.06e10 mg/kg,and -98.8 to 13.9%(at 20 μg/kg),*** five samples of each food matrix(chicken muscle,pork,beef,milk,and egg)purchased from large retailers in Seoul that were tested,none of the target analytes were *** has therefore been shown that this protocol is adaptable,accurate,and precise for the quantification of anthelmintic residues in foods of animal origin.

Characteristics of damaged layer in micro-machining of copper material

The study on damaged layer is necessary for improving the machinability in micro-machining because the damaged layer affects the micro mold life and micro machine parts. This study examined the ultra-precision micro-machining characteristics, such as cutting speed, feed rate and cutting depth, of a micro-damaged layer produced by an ultra-high speed air turbine spindle. The micro cutting force, surface roughness and plastic deformation layer were investigated according to the machining conditions. The damaged layer was measured using optical microscope on samples prepared through metallographic techniques. The scale of the damaged layer depends on the cutting process parameters, particularly, the feed per tooth and axial depth of the cut. According to the experimental results, the depth of the damaged layer is increased by increasing the feed per tooth and cutting depth, also the damaged layer occurs less in down-milling compared with up-milling during the micro-machining operation.

Performance of a New Ion Source for KSTAR Tokamak Plasma Heating

In the experimental campaign of 2010 and 2011 on KSTAR, the NBI-1 system was equipped with one prototype ion source and operated successfully, providing a neutral beam power of 0.7-1.6 MW to the tokamak plasma. The new ion source planned for the 2012 KSTAR campaign had a much more advanced performance compared with the previous one. The target performance of the new ion source was to provide a neutral deuterium beam of 2 MW to the tokamak plasma. The ion source was newly designed, fabricated, and assembled in 2011. The new ion source was then conditioned up to 64 A/100 keV over a 2-hour beam extraction and performance tested at the NB test stand （NBTS） at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute （KAERI） in 2012. The measured optimum perveance at which the beam divergence is a minimum was about 2.5μP, and the minimum beam divergent angle was under 1.0° at 60 keV. These results indicate that the 2.0 MW neutral beam power at 100 keV required for the heating of plasma in KSTAR can be delivered by the installation of the new ion source in the KSTAR NBI-1 system.

Spatial Modeling of the Highest Daily Maximum Temperature in Korea via Max-stable Processes

This paper examines the annual highest daily maximum temperature （DMT） in Korea by using data from 56 weather stations and employing spatial extreme modeling. Our approach is based on max-stable processes （MSP） with Schlather＇s characterization. We divide the country into four regions for a better model fit and identify the best model for each region. We show that regional MSP modeling is more suitable than MSP modeling for the entire region and the pointwise generalized extreme value distribution approach. The advantage of spatial extreme modeling is that more precise and robust return levels and some indices of the highest temperatures can be obtained for observation stations and for locations with no observed data, and so help to determine the effects and assessment of vulnerability as well as to downscale extreme events.
