Effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a tropical and eutrophic estuary

A comprehensive understanding of the complex biogeochemical interactions between organic matter and persistent contaminants in the suspended matter is vital for ecoefficient estuary ***,little is known regarding aeration effects in suspended particulate ***,this study aimed to investigate the effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a Tropical and Eutrophic estuarine *** water with 60 g/L of suspended particulate matter(SPM)was collected from Guanabara Bay,Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,transferred to experimental boxes and aerated for 61 *** aggregates monitoring included abiotic variables measurements and,determination of total organic matter(TOM),biopolymers composition,bacterial activity,trace metals,and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)*** aeration enhanced dissolved oxygen(DO)concentration and the redox potential(Eh).However,from days 0 to 61 the predominant bacterial activities were denitrification and *** transport system activity increased after day 10,and aerobic activity was detected after day *** summary,aeration increased aerobic bacterial activity,lipids(LIP)and trace metal concentrations,although diminished protein/carbohydrate ratio and PAH *** metals concentration(Ni,Pb,Cu,Cr,Mn,and Fe)were the highest on day 19 when the p H was *** presented toxic values(Cu>20.0μg/g).The p H showed a strong negative correlation with Eh(r=-0.94;p<0.001).Acidic environment(p H≤5.9)in marine ecosystems with high loads of toxic trace metals is unsafe for ***,managers must be aware of the environmental and biological risks of introducing the aeration technique into a eutrophic marine environment.

Negative Refraction in Chiral Plasma Media

Negative refraction is currently achieved by driving the magnetic permeability and electrical permittivity simultaneously negative. It is studied an alternative route to negative refraction without manipulating these parameters ( εand μ) on a chiral magnetized plasma. By adding chirality to the plasma, we obtain windows where the refraction is negative. The size of these windows depends on parameters such as: chirality degree, external magnetic field and the angle of incidence of the electromagnetic wave. The present study demonstrates that the condition for negative phase-velocity propagation can be satisfied by non dissipative Faraday chiral medium such as a very dilute magnetized space plasma.

Oral allopurinol to prevent hyperamylasemia and acute pancreatitis after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography

AIM:To assess the efficacy of allopurinol to prevent hyperamylasemia and pancreatitis after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(PEP).METHODS:One hundred and seventy patients were enrolled and randomized to two groups:a study group(n=85)who received 300 mg of oral allopurinol at 15 h and 3 h before endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)and a control group(n=85)receiving an oral placebo at the same *** Outcome Measurements included serum amylase levels and the number severity of the episodes of *** amylase levels were classified as normal(151 IU/L).Episodes of PEP were classified following Ranson's criteria and CT severity ***:Gender distribution was similar between *** age was 53.5±18.9 years for study group and 52.8±19.8 years for ***,the distribution of benign pathology was similar between *** was more common in the control group(P=0.003).Mild PEP developed in two patients from the study group(2.3%)and eight(9.4%) from control group(P=0.04),seven episodes were observed in high-risk patients of the control group(25%) and one in the allopurinol group(3.3%,P=0.02).Risk factors for PEP were precut sphincterotomy(P=0.02),pancreatic duct manipulation(P=0.002)and multiple procedures(P=0.000).There were no deaths or side ***:Oral allopurinol before ERCP decreased the incidences of hyperamylasemia and pancreatitis in patients submitted to high-risk procedures.

Physical Interpretation of the Dirac Neutrino with Electromagnetic Mass

The usual choice of an orthogonal set of four plane-wave solutions of the free-particle Dirac equation does not lend itself readily to direct and complete physical interpretation in the case of Dirac neutrino particle. A different choice of solutions can be made which yields a direct physical interpretation at all energies. Besides the separation of positive and negative energy states there is a further separation of states for which the spin is respectively parallel or antiparallel to the direction of the momentum vector. This can be obtained from the Maxwell’s equation without charges and current in the configuration. Scenery of our study is at high temperature T where coexist electron-positron pair and neutrino-antineutrino pair, (i.e., T≥1 MeV). Taking into consideration the possibility of negative mass, we can describe the observed behavior of antimatter in response to electromagnetic fields by assuming that the anti Dirac neutrino has a negative mass, so a new causal symmetry can be obtained.

Chiral Maxwell’s Equations as Two Spinor System: Dirac and Majorana Neutrino

This work clarifies the relation between Maxwell, Dirac and Majorana neutrino equations presenting an original way to derive the Dirac and neutrino equation from the chiral electrodynamics leading, perhaps, to novel conception in the mass generation by electromagnetic fields. In the present article, it is shown that Maxwell equations can be written in the same form as the two components Dirac and neutrino equations, that is the vector representation of electromagnetic theory can be factorized into a pair of two-component spinor field equations. We propose a simple approach with the electric field E parallel to the magnetic field H. Our analysis is based on the chiral or Weyl form of the Maxwell equations in a chiral vacuum. This theory is a new quantum mechanics (QM) interpretation for Dirac and neutrino equation. The below research proves that the QM of particles represents the electrodynamics of the curvilinear closed chiral waves. Electromagnetic properties of neutrinos are discussed.

This study presents an investigation of the impact of the quasi-stationary voltage support provided by a voltage source converter(VSC)connected to a single point of a power *** on the directional derivative concept,an analytical method is developed to quantify the sensitivities of the AC bus voltage with respect to the VSC reactive power control *** on a real case study,it is shown that the method applies to VSC units that are part of VSC-HVDC systems,which can operate in a point-to-point or multi-terminal ***-domain simulations are performed to verify the findings from the application of the analytical method on a reduced size power system.

Extensive right coronary artery thrombosis in a patient with COVID-19:A case report

BACKGROUND Occurring in approximately 30%of hospitalized patients,cardiovascular complications that take place during the course of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)have been shown to cause morbidity and *** case is the first report of extensive right coronary artery(RCA)thrombosis that was evaluated by intracoronary imaging and intracoronary invasive physiology in a patient with *** SUMMARY A 62-year-old woman presented with flu-like symptoms;ten days later,she presented with inferior ST-segment elevations,chest pain,dyspnea,nausea and *** patient was diagnosed with COVID-19 following a positive test *** angiography of the RCA and its branches indicated intraluminal filling defects,suggesting a *** ultrasound confirmed a subacute thrombus in the RCA,the right posterior descending branch and the right posterior ventricular(RPV)*** was also an acute thrombus in the RPV branch and atherosclerosis in the *** antiplatelet/anticoagulation therapy was *** 7 d,angiography revealed complete disappearance of the *** coherence tomography confirmed this with the exception of a small thrombus in the RPV branch and atherosclerotic plaque in the *** atherosclerotic RCA was measured using the resting fullcycle ratio,indicating no impairment to coronary *** patient was discharged on the 11^(th) day of hospitalization and remained asymptomatic through the 6-mo *** This was the first report of RCA thrombosis in a patient with *** antiplatelet/anticoagulation therapy was successful.

Analysis of the Influence of New Usages on the State of Conservation of Historical Buildings through Microclimate Characterization

Recycling is an alternative for preserving historical heritage buildings. Through such process, buildings are occupied by new usages that assure they are not abandoned. However, conservation issues, like pathological manifestations by filamentous fungi, are common even in buildings receiving new uses. Thus, it is extremely important to know the microclimate behavior of these buildings and analyze if there are usages that favor the appearance of filamentous fungi or not. This study aims to verify if new usages modify the microclimate in historical buildings and if such possible change favors the appearance of pathological manifestations by filamentous fimgi in some specific use. To achieve the results, three buildings that have gone through recycling processes were chosen in the city of Pelotas, in Southernmost Brazil. The city possesses a large number of buildings with historical value and its climate conditions are propitious for appearance of filamentous fungi. For 12 months, microclimate was monitored, the environments modus operandi was characterized and there was a survey on the pathological manifestations by filamentous fungi in the three buildings with two different uses： administration offices and exhibition rooms. Conclusion was that usages that allow natural ventilation and lighting favor conservation, which is what happens in the ones used as administration offices. Besides that, it was noticed that the construction system also influences, since buildings with a high cellar that is being used did not present filamentous fungi, which also shows the influence of ascending humidity on the appearance of such pathological manifestations.

Infections by the fungus Monilinia laxa,the main cause of brown rot in Europe,result in considerable losses of stone ***,we present a comprehensive transcriptomic approach to unravel strategies deployed by nectarine fruit and *** during their *** used ***-inoculated immature and mature fruit,which was resistant and susceptible to brown rot,respectively,to perform a dual RNA-Seq *** immature fruit,host responses,pathogen biomass,and pathogen transcriptional activity peaked at 14–24 h post inoculation(hpi),at which point *** appeared to switch its transcriptional response to either quiescence or *** fruit experienced an exponential increase in host and pathogen activity beginning at 6 *** analyses in both host and pathogen highlighted differences in stage-dependent *** example,in immature fruit,*** unsuccessfully employed carbohydrate-active enzymes(CAZymes)for penetration,which the fruit was able to combat with tightly regulated hormone responses and an oxidative burst that challenged the pathogen’s survival at later time *** contrast,in mature fruit,*** was more dependent on proteolytic effectors than CAZymes,and was able to invest in filamentous growth early during the *** analyses of mature fruit infected with *** indicated that,while jasmonic acid activity was likely useful for defense,high ethylene activity may have promoted susceptibility through the induction of ripening ***,we identified *** genes that were highly induced in both quiescent and active infections and may serve as targets for control of brown rot.

Mechanical Properties of Composite Mortars Using Flurogypsum and PVC Particles

The present work describes the viability of a mortar binder based on two industrial by-products: poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) particles from scrap and anhydrite (CaSO4) from fluorgypsum. Mortar composites were made incorporating different amounts of PVC particles and cured at constant room temperature during various periods of time. From X-ray diffraction, it was possible to follow the hydration process and to estimate the effect of the PVC particles on anhydrite transformation to gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O). Compressive strength from uniaxial testing was measured from stress-strain curves carried out at room temperature. According to these results, the hydration rates of the composites depend on the concentration of PVC particles and there is an enhancement in their compressive strength as particle content increases, reaching values of 36 MPa after 28 days.
