Among neurodegenerative diseases,amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)is the most frequent one involving motor neurons(MNs).ALS incidence varies throughout the world ranging from 0.7 to 4 cases per 100,000 habitants and year(Riancho et al.,2016).This disease,which currently lacks an effective therapy,is characterized by a variable combination of upper and lower MN degeneration,leading to progressive muscle wasting which usually results in a terminal respiratory failure within 3 years after symptom onset(Zufiria et al.,2016).A small proportion of ALS cases show familial *** are related to mutations in specific causative genes(Cr9ORF72,TARDBP,FUS,SOD1 and others)which directly determine disease onset in *** contrast,more than 90 percent of cases are considered to be sporadic,in which generally unknown environmental and internal factors interact with genetic predisposing factors finally leading to disease(Riancho et al.,2018).From a histopathological point of view,ALS is characterized by MN damage and *** from ALS sporadic and most of familial patients exhibit prominent transactive response DNA-binding protein 43(TDP-43)cytoplasmic aggregates which are considered as the“pathological hallmark”of the disease,excepting those related to SOD1 and FUS mutations(Zufiria et al.,2016).TDP-43 is a DNA/RNA binding protein encoded by the TARDBP gene that controls the expression of many different genes.

In this paper the concept of a nonlinear verticumtype observation system is introduced. These systems are composed from several ＂subsystems＂ connected sequentially in a particular way： a part of the state variables of each ＂subsystem＂ also appears in the next ＂subsystem＂ as an ＂exogenous variable＂ which can also be interpreted as a con trol generated by an ＂exosystem＂. Therefore these ＂subsystems＂ are not observation systems, but formally can be considered as controlobservation systems. The problem of observability of such systems can be reduced to rank conditions on the ＂subsystems＂. Indeed, under the condition of Lyapunov stability of an equilibrium of the ＂large＂, verticumtype system, it is shown that the Kalman rank condition on the linearization of the ＂subsystems＂ implies the observability of the original, nonlinear verticumtype system. For an illustration of the above linearization result, a stagestructured fishery model with reserve area is considered. Observability for this system is obtained by applying the above linearization and decomposition approach. Furthermore, it is also shown that, applying an appropriate observer design method to each subsystem, from the observa tion of the biomass densities of the adult （harvested） stage, in both areas, the biomass densities of the prerecruit stage can be efficiently estimated.

The aim of this work was to improve the thermal conductivity and electromagnetic shielding of the leakage proof phase change materials(PCMs),in which a polyrotaxane(PLR)was used as a support material to encapsulate PEG 1k or PEG 6k and MXene as multi-functional *** PCMs can be processed conveniently by a hot press and the PEG 1k containing samples showed excellent *** conducted a systematic evaluation of the phase transition behavior of the material,thermal conductivity and electromagnetic shielding performance ***,the PCMs achieved a high enthalpy values(123.9–159.6 J/g).The PCMs exhibited an increase of 44.3%,and 137.5%in thermal conductivity values with higher MXene content(5 wt%)for PLR-PEG6k and PLR-PEG1k,respectively,and show high shape stability and no leakage during and after phase *** introduction of MXene can significantly improve the electromagnetic shielding performance of PCM ***,higher conductive samples(samples which contain high MXene contents)offer a higher EMI SE shielding,reaching a maximum of 4.67 dB at 5.6 GHz for *** improvements solve the main problems of organic PEG based PCMs,thus making PLR-PEG-MXene based PCMs good candidates for thermoregulators of both solid-state disks and smart *** is worth pointing out that the sample PLR-1k-MX5 can decrease 4.3C of the reference temperature during cellphone ***,the temperature of the protecting sheet in the simulated solid state disk with PCM was significantly lower(showing a decreasing of 7.9℃)compared with the blank sample.

There have been major developments in endoscopic imaging techniques in recent *** with high definition and magnification can provide high quality images that allow for the histological estimation of lesions in vivo and in situ when combined with ancillary enhancement techniques such as chromoendoscopy(CE)and virtual CE(narrow band imaging fujinon intelligent chromoendoscopy,or i-Scan).Despite the enormous potential for these advanced techniques,their value and feasibility in the clinic are still doubted,particularly in cases of colonic polyps that are slated for removal,where in vivo characterization may be deemed ***,there are several advantages offered by such advanced endoscopic *** with or without magnification demonstrates highly accurate histology and invasion depth prediction,and virtual CE is a feasible and less cumbersome alternative to CE in terms of histological estimation,though not sufficiently accurate for depth invasion ***,the supplementary information provided by advanced imaging systems can assist the endoscopist in the selection of a strategic approach,such as in deciding whether a colonic lesion should be resected,left in situ,or requires more intensive surgical ***,advanced high-resolution imaging techniques may be more cost effective,such that histopathology of lowrisk lesions following resection can be *** results of these evaluations and comparisons with traditional CE are presented and *** together,the benefits provided by these advanced capabilities justify their development,and advocates their use for the treatment and management of colonic polyps.

This paper presents the mechanical behaviors of the lacustrine deposit,a representative soil in Bogota,***,the physical characterization of the deposit is performed via laboratory tests (grain size distribution,scanning electron microscopy,Atterberg limits and water content).This characterization intends to explain the special characteristics of the mechanical behaviors of this ***,various triaxial tests are carried out with controlled loading path,strain rate change,relaxation,extensile stress,and cyclic *** test results reveal the shape of the yield curve for Bogotá soil (in a natural state),and also show that an increasing effect of the strain rate depends on the liquid *** effect is also preserved with extensile stresses (which are poorly studied in soil mechanics).Finally,other effects,such as the loss of structure in the reconstituted samples and the effect of shear modulus at low strains,are studied for Bogota soil.

Sexual dichromatism,a particular type of sexual dimorphism,occurs in several species and has been associated with sexual *** some cases,the differences are so small that they are imperceptible to humans,but possibly detected by *** objective measurement of color with spectrophotometers and detailed analyses according to the perception ability of the avian eye have revealed that some species that were once considered to be monochromatic,are in fact dichromatic and able to perceive these *** the tropics,the Saffron Finch(Sicalis flaveola) does not present marked sexual dimorphism in coloration,which makes studies in behavioral ecology,natural history and population dynamics *** assess whether there is dichromatism in the species,the reflectance(between 300 and 700 nm) of ten body regions was measured in 196 wild adults in *** was determined using the CHD1 gene on the sex *** spectra were analyzed using:colorimetric variables and the avian visual *** found that reflectance shows a bimodal curve in all body regions,except the *** presented higher reflectance at long wavelengths,while for females this occurred in ultraviolet *** the visual model,we found that there are significant intrasexual differences;however only in crown coloration is there a possible perceived difference between *** conclude that in the Saffron Finch there are color differences between the sexes in all regions considering the physical phenomenon(reflectance),but in general,when evaluating color perception(avian visual model),there are no differences between the sexes in most of the body *** intrasexual differences are significant,indicating the possibility of these being signals that influence social interactions in the species.

Tower-Based Greenhouse Gas Measurement Network Design——The National Institute of Standards and Technology North East Corridor Testbed

The North-East Corridor （NEC） Testbed project is the 3rd of three NIST （National Institute of Standards and Technology） greenhouse gas emissions testbeds designed to advance greenhouse gas measurements capabilities. A design approach for a dense observing network combined with atmospheric inversion methodologies is described. The Advanced Research Weather Research and Forecasting Model with the Stochastic Time-Inverted Lagrangian Transport model were used to derive the sensitivity of hypothetical observations to surface greenhouse gas emissions （footprints）. Unlike other network design algorithms, an iterative selection algorithm, based on a k-means clustering method, was applied to minimize the similarities between the temporal response of each site and maximize sensitivity to the urban emissions contribution. Once a network was selected, a synthetic inversion Bayesian Kalman filter was used to evaluate observing system performance. We present the performances of various measurement network configurations consisting of differing numbers of towers and tower locations. Results show that an overly spatially compact network has decreased spatial coverage, as the spatial information added per site is then suboptimal as to cover the largest possible area, whilst networks dispersed too broadly lose capabilities of constraining flux uncertainties. In addition, we explore the possibility of using a very high density network of lower cost and performance sensors characterized by larger uncertainties and temporal drift. Analysis convergence is faster with a large number of observing locations, reducing the response time of the filter. Larger uncertainties in the observations implies lower values of uncertainty reduction. On the other hand, the drift is a bias in nature, which is added to the observations and, therefore, biasing the retrieved fluxes.

Electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)and transmission electron microscopy were used to determine the presence of retained austenite and displacive-type phase transformation in the stir zone of friction stir welding(FSW).Severe plastic deformations occurred in the stir zone where there was an increase in the temperature attributed to the FSW process and subsequently a grain *** the recrystallization phenomena,the formation of grain evolution development in steels was resolved using *** addition,a tensile test was carried out in order to reveal the results of mechanical *** was found that the fracture zone occurred in the stir zone with an ultimate tensile strength of 587 MPa,a decrease of 267 MPa compared with that of the base *** this result,it is evident that the fracture exhibits numerous elongated dimples,distributed homogeneously,and certain locations contain cleavage fractures due to differences in the microstructure of the base *** profile tests of the welding regions were conducted,and the results showed that the stir zone was present with elevated hardness(near 350 HV).Characterization techniques revealed that the austenite-to-martensite transformation occurred in the stir zone,resulting in a loss of mechanical properties in the joint.
