r.cently, a number.of studies have focused on micr.-manufactur.ng pr.cesses, which find use in a var.ety of applications, including the pr.duction of micr.electr.mechanical systems (MEMS). The pr.cess of ablation in mater.als is mainly gover.ed by the laser.sour.e and scanning speed. The r.te of mater.al ablation is influenced by chemical and physical pr.per.ies. In this wor., the ener.y fr.m a CO2 laser.was used to ablate thr.e differ.nt mater.als, namely, stainless steel 304L, a thin film of amor.hous aluminum oxide (Al2O3), and pur. silicon, due to their.wide use in MEMS technology. The laser.par.meter. used wer. an aver.ge power.of 18 W and a spot size of 200 μm. The maximum depth dur.ng the photomechanical ablation pr.cess was 72 μm in the case of 304L steel and 77 μm in the case of the Al2O3 thin film for.a scan r.te of 24 mm/min. However. at the same scan r.te, silicon did not exhibit any penetr.tion. As expected, while incr.asing scanning speed the ablation depth decr.ases due to r.duced inter.ction time between laser.and mater.al. The theor.tical ytter.ium fiber.laser.shown in this study can thus be employed in the manufactur.ng of a wide var.ety of mater.als used in the pr.duction of MEMS as well as those used in clean ener.y technologies.

Objective To investigate the r.sk factor. attr.butable to tuber.ulosis-r.lated deaths in ar.as with human immunodeficiency vir.s（HIV） infection epidemics. Methods A pr.spective cohor. study of newly r.gister.d patients in tuber.ulosis（TB） dispensar.es in six r.pr.sentative Chinese pr.vinces was conducted fr.m September.1, 2009 to August 31, 2011. r.sk factor. for.TB-associated death wer. identified thr.ugh logistic r.gr.ssion analysis. r.sults Of 19,103 newly r.gister.d pulmonar. TB patients, 925（4.8%） wer. found to be HIV-positive. Miliar. TB and acid-fast bacillus smear.negative TB wer. mor. common among these patients. Out of a total of 322（1.7%） deaths that occur.ed dur.ng TB tr.atment, 85（26%） of the patients wer. co-infected with HIV. Multivar.ate analysis r.vealed that HIV infection was the str.ngest pr.dictor.of death [adjusted odds r.tio（aO r. 7.86]. Other.significant mor.ality r.sk factor. included pr.sentation with miliar. TB（aO r.4.10; 95% confidence inter.al： 2.14-7.88）, ≥35 year. of age（aO r.3.04）, non-Han ethnicity（aO r.1.67）, and far.ing as an occupation（aO r.1.59）. For.patients with TB/HIV co-infection, miliar. TB was the str.ngest r.sk factor.for.death（aO r.5.48）. A low CD4 count（≤ 200 cells/μL）（aO r.3.27） at the time of TB tr.atment initiation and a lack of antir.tr.vir.l ther.py（Ar.） administr.tion（aO r.3.78） wer. also cor.elated with an incr.ased r.sk of death. Conclusion Infection with HIV was independently associated with incr.ased mor.ality dur.ng TB tr.atment. Offer.ng HIV testing at the time of diagnosis with TB, ear.y TB diagnosis among HIV/acquir.d immunodeficiency syndr.me patients, and the timely pr.vision of Ar. wer. identified as the key appr.aches that could r.duce the number.of HIV-associated TB deaths.
