Climate ch.nge, especially.as reflected in h.at waves, is a rising th.eat worldwide. Appropriate use of cooling devices can protect people from h.alth.impacts during a h.at wave. A population-based teleph.ne survey.was conducted in a representative sample of residents in h.ng Kong to investigate ownersh.p and use of domestic cooling devices, identify.correlates, and examine th.ir associations with.risk perception of potential h.alth.impact of climate ch.nge. More th.n 90% of th. 1002 respondents owned and used cooling devices at h.me. Th. majority.57.7%) perceived th. potential h.alth.risk of climate ch.nge at a h.gh.level. h.wever, risk perception h.d no relationsh.p with.ownersh.p and utilization of cooling devices. Old people(≥ 65 y.ars), th. low-educated, th.se with.low income, and th.se with.ch.onic diseases were more likely.not to use air conditioners wh.n feeling *** findings suggest th.t th.re are no signs sh.wing people h.ve taken more protective actions alth.ugh.h.lf of respondents recognized climate ch.nge as a th.eat. Familial economic condition may.be a major determinant in ownersh.p and use of air conditioners at h.me. Old people and th.se with.ch.onic diseases are at h.gh.risk of adverse exposure to climate ch.nge and th.refore sh.uld be equipped with.appropriate measures to use cooling devices.

Th. demand for h.gh.y.efficient solid-state luminoph.res is continuously.growing due to th.ir potential applications in optoelectrical devices, ch.mosensors, and biological applications. Th. discovery.of luminogens with.aggregation-induced emission(AIE)by.Tang et al. in 2001 provides a good reponse to th.s demand. Among th. exploited AIE luminogens, AIE-active poly.ers possess many.advantages such.as simple sy.th.sis, convenient structrue modifications, and good processability. wh.ch.offer an extensive platform for scientists and engineers. h.rein, th. design principles and latest sy.th.tic advancement of AIE-active poly.ers are summarized, including click poly.erization and multicomponent poly.erization. Non-conjugated h.teroatom-rich.poly.ers were in situ generated and demonstated non-conventional clusteroluminoscence. Advanced applications including fluorescent sensors, stimuli-responsive materials,biological applications, circularly.polarized luminescence, and electroluminescence are th.n introduced in detail. AIE-active poly.ers display.th. signal-amplification effect for sensitive and selective response to ch.mo/bioanaly.es or stimuli and enh.nced ph.tosensitization effect for cancer th.ranostics. Retrospecting th. expansion of th.s field can furth.r strength.n our belief th.t AIE-active poly.ers are promising for conceptual innovation and tech.ological breakth.ough. in th. near future.

Th. numerous merits of conjugated poly.ers(CPs) h.ve encouraged scientists to develop a variety.of sy.th.tic routes to CPs with.diverse structures and functionalities. Among th. large scope of substrates,alky.e play. an important role in constructing poly.ers with.conjugated backbones. In addition to some well-developed reactions including Glaser–h.y.and Sonogash.ra coupling, azide/th.ol-y.e click reaction and cy.lotrimerization, some novel alky.e-based reactions h.ve also been explored such.as oxidative poly.oupling, decarbony.ative poly.oupling and multicomponent tandem poly.erizations. h.s review focuses on th. recent progress on th. sy.th.tic meth.dology.of CPs in th. last ive y.ars using monomers with.two or more triple bonds and some of th.ir h.gh.tech.ological applications. Selected examples of materials properties of th.se CPs are given in th.s review, such.as luorescence response to ch.mical or ph.0}ical stimuli, magnetism, wh.te ligh. emission, cell imaging and bioprobing. Finally. a sh.rt perspective is raised in regard to th. outlook of th. preparation meth.dologies, functionalities as well as potential applications of CPs in th. future.

In optical scanning h.lograph.0} one pupil produces a sph.rical wave and anoth.r produces a plane wave. Th.y.interfere with.each.oth.r and result in a fringe pattern for scanning a th.ee-dimensional object. Th. resolution of th. h.logram reconstruction is affected by.th. point spread function(PSF) of th. optical sy.tem. In th.s paper, we modulate th. PSF by.a spiral ph.se plate, wh.ch.significantly.enh.nces th. lateral and depth.resolution. We explain th. th.ory.for such.resolution enh.ncement and sh.w simulation results to verify.th. efficacy.of th. approach.

Steroid h.rmones, alky.ph.nol eth.xy.ates（APEOs） and ph.h.lic acid esters（PAEs） are emerging endocrine disrupting ch.micals（EDCs） th.t can interfere with.th. endocrine function in organisms at low concentrations. Th. occurrence, distribution beh.vior, removal rate and th. fate of 31 target EDCs in sewage treatment plants, wh.ch.consist of various treatment facilities and receiving water in h.ng Kong, were investigated. Estrone,nony.ph.nol-di-eth.xy.ate and dieth.0} ph.h.late were found to be dominant in each.group of influent samples with.concentrations ranging from 11–33, 747–3945 and 445–4635 ng/L,respectively. Conversely. progesterone, nony.ph.nol-mono-eth.xy.ate and bis（2-eth.0}h.xy.）ph.h.late were th. most abundant in dewatered sludge, with.concentrations ranging from 0.9–237, 75–19,743 and 4310–37,016 ng/g（dry.weigh.）. Th. removal rates of primary.sedimentation and disinfection approach.s were lower th.n 30% for most of th. ch.micals,wh.le th.se of activated sludge and reverse osmosis were greater th.n 80% for more th.n two-th.rds of th. compounds, noticeably.decreasing th. estrogenic risk of sewage disch.rged into th. environment. Steroid h.rmones were removed via biological degradation, wh.le some APEOs and PAEs adsorbed to th. sludge. Victoria h.rbor poses a low to medium estrogenic risk mainly.contributed by.estrone and estradiol and deserves attention.

Poly.y.lotrimrtization of th. monomer was effected by.reflux in dimeth.0}formamide(DMF),producing a soluble h.0}erbranch.d poly.aroxy.arbony.ph.ny.ene) in a good y.eld. Th. poly.er was perfectly.branch.d with.a degree of branch.ng of 100%.

Gut microbes comprise a h.gh.density. biologically.active community.th.t lies at th. interface of an animal with.its nutritional environment. Consequently.th.ir activity.profoundly.influences many.aspects of th. ph.0}iology.and metabolism of th. h.st animal. A range of microbial structural components and metabolites directly.interact with.h.st intestinal cells and tissues to influence nutrient uptake and epith.lial h.alth. Endocrine, neuronal and ly.ph.id cells in th. gut also integrate signals from th.se microbial factors to influence sy.temic responses. Dy.regulation of th.se h.st-microbe interactions is now recognised as a major risk factor in th. development of metabolic dy.function. Th.s is a two-way.process and understanding th. factors th.t tip h.st-microbiome h.meostasis over to dy.biosis requires greater appreciation of th. h.st feedbacks th.t contribute to regulation of microbial community.composition. To date, numerous studies h.ve employ.d taxonomic profiling approach.s to explore th. links between microbial composition and h.st outcomes(especially.obesity.and its comorbidities), but inconsistent h.st-microbe associations h.ve been reported. Available data indicates multiple factors h.ve contributed to discrepancies between studies. Th.se include th. h.gh.level of functional redundancy.in h.st-microbiome interactions combined with.individual variation in microbiome composition; differences in study.design, diet composition and h.st sy.tem between studies; and inh.rent limitations to th. resolution of r RNA-based community.profiling. Accounting for th.se factors allows for recognition of th. common microbial and h.st factors driving community.composition and development of dy.biosis on h.gh.fat diets. New th.rapeutic intervention options are now emerging.
