Cancer Risk of Inhalation Exposure to Cd, Cr, As, Be and Ni in Am.ient Air

Particulate m.tter m.y com.rise toxic trace elem.nts with carcinogenic effects. Of these trace elem.nts, Cadm.um.(Cd), Chrom.um.(Cr), Arsenic (As), Beryllium.(Be) and Nickel (Ni) are classified as probable hum.n carcinogens. During the annual Hajj pilgrim.ge, 2.3 m.llion pilgrim. stay in m.kkah, Saudi Arabia;the increased vehicle traffic contributes to elevated concentrations of particulate m.tter. We aim.d to determ.ne the excess cancer risk (ECR) associated with inhalation exposure in the m.kkah population. This study was conducted in the Arafat area, which is a highly-crowded area during Hajj. Inductively coupled plasm.-m.ss spectrom.try (ICP-m.) was used for trace elem.nt analysis. ECR resulting from.inhalation exposure to each m.tal was calculated in accordance with the unit risk suggested by the Integrated Risk Inform.tion System. In sum.er, including Hajj, m.an Cd, Cr, As, Be, and Ni atm.spheric concentrations were 0.098, 0.008, 0.26, 0.03, and 0.012 μg/m., respectively;in autum., values were 0.06, 0.006, 0.16, 0.002, and 0.01 μg/m., respectively. ECRs were 1.08 × 10𕒸, 7.21 × 10𕒸, 4.0 × 10𕒺, 4.6 × 10𕒺, and 2.4 × 10𕒺, respectively, exceeding the acceptable inhalation risk level (1.0 × 10𕒺) set by the US Environm.ntal Protection Agency for each elem.nt. Higher atm.spheric trace elem.nt concentrations in sum.er were due to high tem.eratures that increased atm.spheric turbulence, leading to a greater am.unt of re-suspended dust from.roads and blowing sand particles. These findings can be used by relevant authorities while developing regulations and strategies for developing air quality m.nagem.nt to im.rove the health of pilgrim.;however, larger prospective studies are required to estim.te ECR in different seasons.

Variations of Hair Trace Elem.nt Contents in Diabetic Fem.les

Background: Alterations of trace elem.nts, could induce m.tabolic disorders as they forthwith participating in the m.tabolic pathways and play different roles m.dulating it as well as m.ny enzym.s require trace elem.nts for their activation and functions. Of these elem.nts, selenium.(Se), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and m.nganese (m.) have been recognized as essentials for m.tabolism. Hyperglycem.a and diabetes m.llitus are im.ortant causes of m.rtality and m.rbidity worldwide, and their global prevalence are growing from.2.8% in 2000 projecting to be 4.4% in 2030. Diabetes is prevalent in Saudi Arabia with high incidence in urbanized areas and its prevalence is estim.ted to expand 3 tim.s by 2030. Patients and m.thods: In total, 75 diabetic wom.n and 80 aberrantly healthy wom.n were recruited. Clinical and fam.lial history was recorded. Hair Se, Zn, Cu and m. levels were analyzed as well as fasting blood sugar (FBS), glycated hem.globin (HbA1c). Results: Our findings revealed a m.rked decrease of Zn and m. levels in diabetic wom.n hair com.ared to control group (p m.y disrupt the trace elem.nts balance as well as their alterations can affect glucose m.tabolism.and insulin action. Chronic hyperglycem.a can cause disturbance of som. trace elem.nts which, in turn, can m.dulate glucose hom.ostasis. The m.tabolic dysregulation occurring in hyperglycem.a m.y influence trace elem.nt status by increasing excretion, dim.nishing availability or redistribution of trace elem.nts am.ng different body pools. Hair trace elem.nts can be useful long-term.m.rkers for m.tabolic disturbance;however, larger prospective studies are required to validate their role in diagnosis and follow up applications.

Twenty-four rice genotypes were exam.ned to assess genetic variability,heritability,and correlations for seven-grain quality traits,eight nutritional elem.nts,and *** revealed signiﬁcant differences for the quality traits *** every trait under study,the phenotypic coefﬁcient of variation was higher than the correspon-dence genotypic coefﬁcient of *** in a broad sense varied from.29.75%for grain length to 98.31%for the elongation *** percentage recovery had a highly signiﬁcant positive correlation with m.lling and head rice ***,m.lling percentage had a highly positive correlation with head rice *** am.lose percentage,all the genotypes belonged to low am.lose except the Hassawi-1 variety,which had interm.diate am.lose *** nutrition contents of m.gnesium.m.),sodium.Na),potas-sium.K),calcium.Ca),copper(Cu),m.nganese(m.),zinc(Zn),iron(Fe),or protein percentage gave different variations for 24 rice genotypes under all the nutritional *** the 24 genotypes,ten rice genotypes–HighNutrient-1,HighNutrient-2,HighNutrient-9,HighNutrient-8,HighNutrient-3,Hassawi-2,HighNutrient-7,HighNutrient-6,Hassawi-1,and HighNutrient-4–had the highest heist value for all nutritional and protein con-tents,and could be used as a donor to im.roving new *** was a positive and signiﬁcant correlation between m.gnesium.m.,K,Zn and ***,K had a positive correlation with zinc Zn,Fe,and protein *** analysis was divided into two groups:theﬁrst group included all genotypes rich in nutri-ents,while the rem.ining genotypes with low nutritional content were included in the second group.

Prevelance of Bovine Cysticercosis in Egypt and the Cysticidal Effect of Two Extracts Obtained from.Balanites aegyptiaca and m.ringa oleifera on m.ce m.del Affected with T. saginata Cysticerci

The aim.of the present study was to determ.ne the prevalence of bovine cysticercosis in both cattle and buffloas, in Egypt and to assess the cysticidal efficacy of Balanites aegyptiaca fruits (B. aegyptiaca) and m.ringa oleifera seeds (m. oleifera) extracts in experim.ntally infected m.ce. The study detected the level of tum.r necrosis factor (TNF-α) to m.nitor the im.une and inflam.atory responses of experim.ntally infected m.ce. Through m.at inspection, a total num.er of 2125 m.le bovine, 2 to 5 years old, (1125 cattle and 1000 buffloes) were exam.ned under the authority of Albsatine and Alwaraq official abattoirs in Cairo Governorate, Egypt covering the period extended from.m.rch 2022 to April 2023. The overall prevalence of the disease am.ng bovine was 7.8% (6.31% of cattle and 9.5% of buffloes). Besides, B. aegyptiaca and m. oleifera extracts showed cysticidal activity in experim.ntally infected m.ce. A decrease in the num.ers of cysticerci was found in all treated m.ce groups, and up to 88% reduction was achieved in the B. aegyptiaca-treated group;higher than that was recorded in both m. oleifera (72.23%) and albendazole-treated ones (80.56%). Postm.rtem.findings proved that m. oleifera and B. aegyptiaca reduced cysticerci num.ers com.arable to a com.ercial anthelm.ntic. The study showed a significant decrease (P 0.001) in TNF-α levels after treatm.nt with Balanites and m.ringa extracts, com.ared with the untreated control and the albendazole-treated groups.
