Exploring Trees Diversity and Ecological Value of Mountain Forests in th. Blue Nile Region of Sudan

We carried out th.s research.at Abu-Gaddaf Natural Forest Reserve (ANFR) wh.ch.is located east of Blue Nile River, in Blue Nile State, Sudan. It aims at exploring tree composition assessing th.ir diversity indices, and ecological importance values. For survey of types and estimation of density of tree species in th. forest, we randomly distributed 97 circular sample plots (0.1 h.ctare (h.)). In each.sample plot we identified all trees to th. species level, recorded th.ir frequencies and computed species diversity and importance value indices (IVI). A total of 13 tree species, wh.ch.belong to 12 genera and nine families, were identified in th. tree layer of th. forest. Mean tree density in ANFR was 116 trees/h., composed mainly of Boswellia papyrifera (Del.) h.ch.t. (48), followed by Combretum h.rtmannianu (19) and Lannea fruticosa (18). Fabaceae was th. most common family followed by Combretaceae and Malvaceae. B. papyrifera Delile h.ch.t was th. most abundant wh.le Acacia seyal was th. least abundant species. Species rich.ess (R = 1.71), evenness (E = 0.69), dominance (0.24) indices and Simpson’s Index of Diversity (D' = 0.76) suggest a moderate diversity, moderate numbers of individuals in each.species and a moderate community stability. Th. research.provides empirical results on diversity and ecological importance value of species, signifies th. urging need to safeguard th.eatened species and to prioritize th.m for conservation, as well as th. need to promote management of abundant species to provide multiple forest ecosystem services.

Pattern of Potential Laboratory Markers for COVID-19 in Eastern Sudan

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a recent global h.alth.crisis. One of th. major issues of COVID-19 is its unpredictable manifestations and serious outcomes. Many h.matological parameters are th.ugh. to ch.nge dramatically during th. course of th. disease. Th.se include wh.te blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Th.s study aimed at evaluating certain laboratory results;periph.ral blood lymph.penia, relative neutroph.lia, h.gh.neutroph.l-lymph.cyte ratio, and elevated C-reactive protein as potential laboratory markers of COVID-19 in Eastern Sudanese patients. Meth.ds: We, retrospectively, aimed at th. evaluation of periph.ral blood leucocytes count, neutroph.l-lymph.cyte ratio NLR and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in confirmed COVID-19 eastern Sudanese patients during th. course of th. disease. Results: Th. mean total leucocytes count, % neutroph.ls count, absolute neutroph.ls count and C-reactive protein (CRP) were significantly h.gh.r (P. value = 0.000) in COVID-19 patients th.n in th. control group wh.le th. mean % lymph.cytes count and % mixed cells count were found to be significantly lower in COVID-19 patients th.n in th. control group (P. value 0.000). Conclusion: Periph.ral blood leucocyte alterations (simultaneous presence of lymph.penia, relative neutroph.lia and h.gh.neutroph.l lymph.cyte ratio (NLR) along with.elevated CRP levels may be valuable biomarkers associated with.COVID-19 in Port Sudan city, Red Sea state, Sudan. Th.se markers migh. be important in prediction, inspection of disease progression and prognosis.

Background: Dengue virus (DENV) infection is caused by an arboviral strain and is transmitted by th. mosquito Aedes Egyties wh.ch.is found in Sudan especially Red Sea and Kassala states in th. east. In th. year 2020 th.re was a significant outbreak in th. both.states. Th. disease is known to cause renal and electrolyte disturbances and a th.rough.understanding of th.t wh.ch.will potentially h.lp in th. prediction, diagnosis and treatment of th. disease. Meth.ds: Th.s study is a prospective observational cross sectional study conducted in th. Eastern Sudan College of Medical Science and Tech.ology and Port Sudan Teach.ng h.spital. 200 confirmed Dengue virus infection patients along with.200 h.alth. appearing adults (as a control) were enrolled for th. study. Statistical analysis was carried out after th. collection of patients’ demograph.c, clinical, and investigational data including electrolyte values. Results: Th. h.gh.st incidence of DENV infection was observed in individuals of th. middle age group (29%). Alth.ugh.fallen with.n reference ranges found in th. literature, mean serum electrolyte values differed significantly between patients and controls and between different categories of th. disease. For our patients, h.ponatraemia was seen in 43.5%, h.pokalaemia in 37%, h.pocalcaemia in 30%, h.poph.sph.taemia in 12% and low magnesium concentrations in 13%. Mean serum sodium concentration differed in th. control (138.2 mmol/l) from in th. test (132.5 mmol/l) (P. value 0.02). Similarly, mean serum potassium in th. control (3.97 mmol/l) differed significantly (P. value 0.01) from test (3.30 mmol/l). Mean calcium and ph.sph.rus (8.80 and 3.50 mg/dl) in th. control were also differed from test (8.51 and 3.30), (P. values 0.02 and 0.004, respectively). In contrast, serum magnesium (mg/dl) in th. control group (1.96) sh.wed no significant difference from th.t of test group (1.90) (P. value 0.08). Eastern Sudan College of Medical Science and Tech.ology and Port Sudan Teach.ng h.spital. 200 confirmed Dengue virus infected patients along with.200 h.alth. appearing adults (control) were enrolled for th. study. Statistical analysis was carried out after th. collection of patients’ demograph.c, clinical, and investigational data including serum urea and creatinine values. Eth.cal approval was obtained from th. ministry of h.alth. Red Sea state and informed written consent was obtained from each.participant. Results: Th. h.gh.st incidence of DENV infection was observed in individuals of th. middle age group (29%). Elevated blood urea levels were detected in 10 (5%) patients wh.le elevated creatinine levels were seen in 17 (8.5%) patients. Alth.ugh.fallen with.n reference ranges found in th. literature, mean blood urea and creatinine values differed significantly between patients and controls and between different categories of th. disease. Mean blood urea concentration sh.wed a statistically significant difference between th. control (22.3 mg/dl) and th. test (28.4 mg/dl) (P value Conclusion: We strongly conclude th.t renal involvement is not uncommon in Dengue fever and th.t blood urea and creatinine evaluation sh.uld be considered in th. counseling of DENV infection patients. Patients need to be subjected to necessary laboratory investigations associated with.acute kidney injury to decrease th. rate of morbidity and mortality associated with.th. disease.

h.matological Alterations in an Eastern Sudanese Ch.onic Kidney Disease Patient Population

Background: Ch.onic Kidney Disease (CKD), associated with.a slow and progressive loss of kidney function over a period of several years, is an important clinical disaster with.an increasing rate of morbidity and mortality especially in th. least developed countries. Many h.matological parameters are th.ugh. to alter dramatically during th. course of th. disease. Th.se include wh.te blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Meth.ds: We tried, retrospectively, to evaluate th. periph.ral blood h.matological alterations in a group of patients undergoing h.modialysis in an eastern Sudan dialysis center to add local medical information. Results: Anemia (Low h.moglobin and h.matocrit) was detected in 94% of th. patients’ group. Mean Eryth.ocyte count (3.32vs.4.76 (×109/L)), h.moglobin concentration (9.4vs.13 (g/dl)), h.matocrit (28.7vs.38.7 (L/L)) and platelet count (296 vs. 238 (×109/L)) were significantly lower in th. patients’ group th.n in th. control group (P-values Conclusion: Five out of eigh. studied parameters (Red cell count, h.moglobin, h.matocrit, mean cell h.moglobin concentration, and platelets count) h.ve sh.wn a significant alteration in CKD patients. As th. complete blood count (CBC) test is th. most utilized test in clinical laboratory practice, th.se alterations may be considered as early indicators for CKD. Furth.rmore, all patients with.CKD must be routinely ch.cked for th.se alterations.

氮原子掺杂可赋予碳材料良好的电化学活性。聚苯胺(PANI)氮含量较高,热稳定性较好、且拥有方便可调的微/纳米结构,已被广泛用于含氮纳米碳的前驱体。本文通过在磺化碳纳米管(CNT)的分散液中引入苯胺二聚体、并采用极低的单体浓度(0.005M),借助苯胺在CNT表面的化学氧化聚合,获得了PANI包覆CNT的一维纳米复合结构(其平均直径约100 nm,图1,a和b),再经600℃下氮气氛中热处理2 h.备了具有高比表面积的含氮纳米碳管。以CNT为基体得到的这种含氮纳米碳管不仅能够同时表现出双电层效应和赝电容效应(图1,c和d),相比于单纯由PANI炭化得到的含氮碳材料还将具有更好的稳定性。恒流充放电测试表明,在1A/g的电流密度下PANI/CNT及其炭化产物的比电容分别可达416.5 F/g和373.1 F/g,因此,它们有望作为一种性能良好的超级电容器电极材料。
