Role of Complement Regulatory Proteins (CD55, CD59, and CD35) on Red Blood Cells of <i>β</i>-Thalassaemia Patients

Background: β-thalassaemia (β-Thal) is an inherited chronic haemolytic anaemia resulting from absent or low level of synthesis of β-globin chains of haemoglobin A in erythropoietic cells. The complement system is an important part of innate immune response that may be implicated in red blood cell (RBC) lysis. Mammalian cells are provided with surface bound complement regulatory proteins (MCRPs) that regulate the activation of complement cascade, thus protecting them from uncontrolled complement-mediated lysis. Objective is to evaluate the role of complement regulatory proteins (CD55, CD59, and CD35) on red blood cells, and to explain the pathogenesis of anaemia in β-thalassemia major. Methods: This case-control study enrolled 74 β thalassemia major patients who were compared with 40 age and sex matched controls. We performed expression of CD55, CD59, and CD35 on RBCs using flow cytometry. Results: CD55 levels of β-thalassemia major patients (79.78% ± 18.54%) were significantly decreased compared to healthy controls (99.45% ± 0.59%)

中国的读者很熟悉《一千零一夜》,其中的《神马》,很令人惊奇。在现实中,阿拉伯马的确是世界上最古老的马种,对世界文明做出了重要贡献。当人战后人类大量迁徙后,人类饲养了各种适合现代赛马和马术娱乐的马匹,其中包括各种阿拉伯马匹,这使人类的生活更加豪华。时至今日,阿拉伯人为繁殖这种独特的马匹而感到自豪。阿拉伯人也一直以精湛的、对马的热爱和关心而闻名于世。正如《神马》传说一样,阿拉伯语文学中对“马”的歌颂,对精湛马术的歌颂,对骑士精神的歌颂也是“永恒”的主题,而从阿拉伯文学的蒙昧时期延续到今天,马术已经成为许多艺术和戏剧作品、电影文学中的重要题材。但是,从体育文学视角切入,对这一问题的关注甚少,更不要说展开研究了。本文选取阿拉伯语文学中的经典名作,通过对诗歌、电影文学中有关“马”“马术”“骑士”“骑士精神”的探讨,为体育文化、体育文学研究增添一些新的内容。阿拉伯文学大致分为五个时期:蒙昧时期、伊斯兰时期、阿拔斯时期、安达卢西亚时期和近现代时期。蒙昧时期的文学被认为是阿拉伯语文学形成的重要源头,诗歌作为蒙昧时期文学的主体,从中可以窥见那时期阿拉伯人生活的风貌,而对精湛的马术的描写是其中不可缺少的内容,骑士精神更是诗歌的“灵魂”。马术作为一种竞技,“驾御”它的“骑士”通过竞技而求生存,通过竞技来证明自我力量、自我技能的出众,由此展现勇敢和刚毅的精神,这正是“体育项目”“体育运动”应该追求的目标。“悬诗”中最具代表性的人物如安泰拉,他既是骑士又是诗人,具有许多优秀的品质,从他的身上,我们不仅看到了马术在战斗中的“力量”,而且也看到了一个骑士应有的体魄和精神,从而感受到了一种“体育项目”对人类的影响。乌姆鲁勒·盖斯的“悬诗”、安塔拉·本·沙达德的“悬诗”以及将马术作为基本题材的阿拉伯语电影比如《Al Nasser Salah Ad-Din》《Antara Ben Shaddad》,都生动地描述了阿拉伯骑士和马匹之间的紧密关系,歌颂了骑士精神。文中通过对骑士精神的概括,使我们从根源上了解阿拉伯语文学中有关马术的作品,有助于我们更深入地理解一种“体育”运动对人的精神世界的影响,从而帮助我们思考在现今生活中所应该坚守的原则,同时也有助于我们在现今社会建设过程中借鉴这种精神。

Iron Bearing Minerals Flotation from Silica Sand Using Hydroxyl Surfactants

A technological clayey sandstone sample from Wadi Qena locality, Eastern Desert of Egypt, was directed to processing. Fine kaolin and clean silica sand were produced after intensive attrition scrubbing of the sample. To increase the quality of the produced silica, it was subjected to reverse anionic flotation to minimize its iron content. In this respect, conventional flotation tests using three anionic oxyhydryl surfactants namely: sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate, sodium naphtha sulphonate, and sodium dodecyl sulphate, were tried. Results showed a privilege action for sodium dodecyl sulphate to remove most of the iron oxide content of the sample. A statistical Box-Behnken design was constructed to optimize the process efficiency. It was shown that from a flotation feed contained 360 ppm Fe2O3 and 1190 ppm Al2O3, sand concentrate contained 29 ppm Fe2O3 and 564 ppm Al2O3, was produced. The optimum flotation conditions were 3.86 kg/t sodium dodecyl sulphate dose, 3.22 flotation pulp pH, 1226 rpm impeller speed, and 22.24 L/min airflow rate. Variables interaction effects results showed that flotation separation efficiency was significantly influenced by air flow rate and cell impeller speed of the process.

A rapid,sensitive and simple spectrofluorimetric method was developed for the estimation of *** this method,the native fluorescence characteristics of atorvastatin have been studied in both acidic and basic *** sensitivity was obtained with 5% acetic acid at 389 nm using 276 nm for *** analysis showed a good correlation coefficient(r=0.9995) between fluorescence intensity and concentration over the range of 1.5-4 mg/mL with detection limit of 0.012 mg/*** proposed method was successfully applied to the analysis of atorvastatin in pure and pharmaceutical dosage forms with average recovery of 100.2970.47%.The results were compared favorably with those of the reported method.

Background: The existence of asymptomatic peripheral arterial disease among patients with acute ischemic stroke has been studied and proved. Low ankle brachial index (ABI) is considered as a marker of atherosclerosis, and its relation to stroke severity was documented in some studies. The effect of different alleles of ApoE gene on acute ischemic stroke presentation in patients with low ABI is not known. Objective: To study the effect of ApoE gene polymorphism on stroke severity, outcome and recurrence in patients with asymptomatic peripheral arterial disease identified by low ABI. Methods: Patients with acute ischemic stroke were screened for the presence of asymp-tomatic peripheral arterial disease by estimating the ABI using a pocket Doppler ultrasound device. Assay of ApoE gene was done using the real-time PCR technique. Results: Low ABI was present in 31% of patients with acute ischemic stroke. There was no significant difference among patients with different ApoE alleles regarding the severity of their symptoms. Also, there was no significant difference among patients with normal ABI and those with abnormal ABI regarding the ApoE gene polymorphism. Conclusion: The current study showed that there was no significant relation between ApoE gene polymorphism and low ABI in ischemic stroke patients who had asymptomatic peripheral arterial disease.

Cost Utility Analysis of Dapagliflozin in Egyptian Patients with CKD from the Payer Perspective

Background: Chronic kidney disease is a serious public health issue in Egypt. An estimated 13% of individuals in Egypt are expected to have CKD, with a higher prevalence among older adults and in rural regions. The primary goal of the study was to compare the cost-utility of the standard of care alone against add-on medication, dapagliflozin, as a preventative measure against complications of CKD in cases with or without diabetes mellitus. Methods: A lifetime Markov state transition model with a 3-month cycle was employed based on the clinical evidence from the DAPA-CKD clinical trial. The model was to provide estimates of the long-term economic and health impact of managing CKD patients. Cost-effectiveness is assessed regarding the cost per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gained. This economic evaluation study used a payer perspective. Moreover, the study evaluated the impact on the budget due to the undertaking of dapagliflozin. One-way deterministic sensitivity analyses, as well as a probabilistic sensitivity analysis, were employed. Results: During a lifetime horizon, the difference in cost between dapagliflozin and SOC was EGP -65,212 (USD 2126.89). The difference in QALY between dapagliflozin and SOC was 4.3. In CKD patients, adding dapagliflozin to ramipril generates better QALYs and lower costs than ramipril alone. Dapagliflozin improved the outcomes and generated cost savings. A deterministic one was sensitivity analysis revealed that the model is robust to changes in all variables included. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis using Monte Carlo simulation with 10,000 iterations showed that in about 82.64% of trials, dapagliflozin is cost-saving. The undertaking of dapagliflozin by any percent will have a positive impact on the budget. Conclusion: During the lifetime horizon, dapagliflozin is cost-saving;it benefits the quality of life and the total cost. The addition of dapagliflozin to SOC has a saving effect of 11.9% of the budget.

＜正＞In this paper, a novel type of auxiliary switched capacitor assisted edge resonant soft switching PWM resonant DC-DC Converter with two auxiliary edge resonant lossless inductor snubbers. The operation principle of this converter is described using the switching mode equivalent circuits. This newly developed multi resonant DC-DC Converter can regulate its dc output AC power under a principle of constant frequency edge-resonant soft switching commutation by asymmetrical PWM control scheme. The high frequency power regulation and actual power conversion efficiency characteristics of the proposed soft switching PWM series load resonant DC-DC Converter are evaluated. The operating performances of the newly proposed soft switching inverter are discussed based on simulation a results from an application point of view.

The purpose of this article offers different algorithms of Weibull Geometric (WG) distribution estimation depending on the progressive Type II censoring samples plan, spatially the joint confidence intervals for the parameters. The approximate joint confidence intervals for the parameters, the approximate confidence regions and percentile bootstrap intervals of confidence are discussed, and several Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques are also presented. The parts of mean square error (MSEs) and credible intervals lengths, the estimators of Bayes depend on non-informative implement more effective than the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) and bootstrap. Comparing the models, the MSEs, average confidence interval lengths of the MLEs, and Bayes estimators for parameters are less significant for censored models.

Selenium (IV) vitamin A complex as antioxidant drug design was prepared and characterized by microanalysis, conductance, infrared spectra, Raman laser spectra, 1HNMR spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric (TG/DTG and DTA) tool of analyses. Vitamin A chelate was coordinated as a mono-dentate ligand through the oxygen atom of –OH hydroxyl group. Thermal degradation analyses discussed the removal of terminal methyl molecules in the first and second decomposition stage while the organic ligand moieties existed in the third and subsequence steps. The Se (IV) complex in comparable with free vitamin A ligand has been assessed against some kinds of bacteria and fungi which gave a significant inhibition. The surface morphology and nano scale size of selenium metal and its vitamin complex were proved. The activation energy and other thermodynamic parameters (ΔH*, ΔS* and ΔG*) of Se (IV) complex were calculated using Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger equations.
